I have been listening to Cheryl Wheeler for a good 35 years. And early recordings her voice is clear and youthful and very beautiful but now that she is around my age her voice is going to patina that youth can never give us. I saw Cheryl in concert in North Hampton at the Iron Horse The year before Covid and with each passing year well she may not be able to hit the highest note in performances are even more beautiful. I just want to thank you Cheryl wherever you are you’re bringing so much beauty into my life for 35 years or more. God bless you.
I am so, so glad this showed up on youtube, my little window on the world as I get older and less active. From the very first note I felt my heart start to laugh and my soul start to smile and my eyes start to leak tears. So many precious, wonderful memories attached to her songs for me. I first saw her in Boston back in the early 80's and became a life long fan. Thanks for all the wonderful words and songs that you have given us.
I was living in Wisconsin years ago and a local man I had done a story on for the small-town newspaper passed away. His widow knew of Cheryl Wheeler and played a song of hers at the funeral. She heard that CW was playing at Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, about an hour or so drive away and didn't want to go alone. Even though I hadn't heard of her, I was happy to go along. It was a great experience...CW can have you laughing your breath away during the interlude between songs and outwardly crying the next moment while she sings a story of one of her many life experiences. It was one of the most cathartic shows I've ever been to. Hearing her sing is worth anything you have to do to get to the show. RIP Richard and 🌷to Peggy.
I'll never forget when Cheryl and this song burst through the folk air waves probably close to 40 years ago. I had trouble finding- and eventually buying- the album through a mail order catalog...and then, somehow, without an Internet or You Tube, I lost her and the album. She's just so great, how did I let all this time go by? THANK YOU ,CHERYL, and thank you Newport Performing Arts Center for this video!
I can remember looking forward to either every other Saturday or Sunday night when you Cherly played for many years at “My Brother’s Pub”. Yes I was addicted from the beginning and still listen to your music today (I am soon to be 72) and not a day goes but where I don’t play a few of your most heart felt songs. Keep playing and singing you and your music will always make my heart soar.
How come I have never heard of this increible performer before???? Beautiful voice, wonderful guitar and lovely songs......So glad I have finally found her!!!!
This is wonderful. Shows off a quiet side of CW that isn't often seen on UA-cam....and showcases her wonderful guitar playing. And lyric-writing. Oh, hell, she's just great.
I've always absolutely loved Cheryl since the '80s. I've seen her perform several times and have had the chance to talk with her. Such a great musician and a sweet lady. And funny as hell.
I do remember seeing Cheryl several times in/around Santa Cruz as well as at the Strawberry Music Festival in the late 80s to mid 90s... Every show was mermorable. Then she just slowly faded away until i ran into this video and remembered her.
Such a beautiful soul. She can make me cry one minute and then laugh hysterically the next. Praying she is getting good care for her mental health struggle and is feeling better really soon!
So great to hear and especially see Cheryl Wheeler sing in an informal setting. And, for me, an aging boomer folk singer myself, to see her embrace her age, gray hair and all. No slinky dress and cowboy boots. Died in the wool consummate singer and storyteller. This song, and When Fall Comes to New England still make me stop dead in my tracks.
You Miss Cheryl are a channel of our fondest memories--chasing around the Southwest to see where you will pop up next. From San Diego to Sedona to Pinos Altos maybe to Colorado perhaps to Berkeley, we listen to your voice as your notes scatter across the landscapes. We wonder where you will travel next as our dogs sleep nearby, dreaming of a new lyrical adventure. We wonder and prepare to wander to find the gift that is you. Bless you always in all ways.
Wow-- I haven't heard Cheryl Wheeler in years! Such a mellow, deep talent. She just has such a centered wisdom & charisma and I love what she says about performing, about the connection between singer and audience, and about people who truly love folk music... so true. She's so at ease and so funny; I would love to see her in concert, but it looks like she is only booked for a few gigs in California. Come to Michigan!
A friend brought me to your concert at Mt Wachusett Comm College- back in 2000(ish). I hadn’t heard your music. I immediately loved your voice and nearly peed myself laughing. She said “wait til you hear Arrow”... omg I cried. Glad to see you on UA-cam!!
‘Piper’ is hands down the best written song about songwriting that a songwriter ever wrote. Which is saying a lot when you consider it’s company like Chicago’s ‘25 or 6 to 4’ or Manilow’s ‘I Write The Songs’.
Cheryl could sing my income tax return and I'd still love every word of it.
Well said! Her voice is golden.
Best comment!
She is a treasure. Hope she knows it.
Absolutely!
Absolute national treasure 🎉

Geez, her voice is still like butter. Beautiful. So amazing. Nobody is like Cheryl Wheeler. And the writing....

Remember when you had to order your vinyl albums from catalogs like Rounder and Flying Fish? It was a great time.

If there is some haven where all the greatest songs ever written go and exist into infinity, surely Arrow is amongst them.
How come I have never heard of this increible performer before???? Beautiful voice, wonderful guitar and lovely songs......So glad I have finally found her!!!!
A famous artist did cover one of her songs but yes she is mostly not as famous as she deserves to be
@@torque_dwf Dan Seals recorded Addicted. There's video on here of her singing it with Dan.
This is wonderful. Shows off a quiet side of CW that isn't often seen on UA-cam....and showcases her wonderful guitar playing. And lyric-writing. Oh, hell, she's just great.
What a voice! My very favorite is When Fall Comes To New England. Oh silly me. It brings tears to my eyes.

Cheryl this song touches my heart! Remember you and I at my grandparents? I love your music! I love that you were such an awesome part of my life! ❤
She just gets better with age! Love!
One of my favorites!🤗
The emotion in Cheryl's songs are second to none. She's such an amazing talent.

The late 1980s to mid 1990s was a strong period of Cheryl’s career.

good to see Cheryl still playing and sounding better than ever

Thank you, Live from Newport, for bringing us the words & music of Cheryl Wheeler. She's inspiring, warm, sincere, funny, and oh, so talented!
time has improved her ... only my most intense admiration for you.
Remembering early Cheryl @ the Wintertime Coffee House on Martha's Vineyard many years ago
She's fantastic, always was. I've been listening for years, saw her live in Ohio.
I love this beautiful recording. I’ve loved this song since the 80s but this has such wisdom, pain and truth.
SHE IS SOOOO AWESOME!!!!LOVE HER!!!!
I'm so happy to have found this. I'm an instant fan. Cheryl has a beautiful voice and intelligent, moving lyrics.

Love this woman.
A voice so easy, so very easy to listen to due to the clarity and voice. :) :)
So terrific to see her and hear her singing and perfectly crafted songs! She is mellow here.🙂
Her songs still bring tears to my eyes...this one especially. Wish she would come back out to the mid-west.
We use to enjoy your concerts at Stone Soup and various venues! Please come to the Newport area again!
Thank you for this. An intimate update with a wonderful voice! Onward!
Thank you Cheryl! I opened for you years ago at Common Fence Music, you were great then and now.

My favorite song ever is "Addicted".....the most feeling in any song I've ever heard. It is my soul mate's and my favorite song.

Yeah......
You've finally shelved some of the pies then!
Was this a public performance? I was in Newport 2 weeks ago. I’m heartbroken to think I might have missed this. Cheryl Wheeler is one of my favorites.
by context i'd say no ~ empty echoing bldg. wanting to be renovated {she mentioned } ~ & no sound of audience ~
What is SALT?
And I don't mean the mineral or initials for what politicians fail to do.
It was a legendary folk music venue (bar) in Newport, RI, USA
