- So in this video we'll be discussing the evolution of Chris Redfield before resident evil village. As we follow his timeline from his debut in the original resident evil 1 and how his story follows to resident evil 2 or re2 remake, to resident evil 3, to his new look in resident evil 7, and all the way to re village or also known as resident evil 8.
Also in this video we discuss his backstory prior to the start of this franchise and how his iterations has been revamped so many times during the series. Also we cover his adventures with other notable resident evil characters like Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, and even Albert wesker.

Leon manages to look relatively the same, but Chris? That dude has gotten a facelift every single game.
Actually, his face model from REmake to RE6 (or even RE: Vendetta) is one same guy.
He's just been aging throughout those games.
But RE7? Totally different character (totally different face model).
In this new RE8 you can see they decided to go back on the likes of that one face model they had for years.
Can't remember his name, but the lame excuse Capcom made to not rehire the same guy was because his face looked too fake for their RE engine lol

He doesn't need to be as big as re5 but re6 had a good middle ground, he was still "the big guy" but more realistic

There is actually lore reason though... he went out of his way to beef up to be able to defeat Wesker and after Wesker died, Chris steadily decreased in mass as he no longer needed to be in peak form

Agreed RE6 Chris actually nailed his appearance down. I like to believe he laid off the roids now Wesker had been defeated.

Chris is my favorite character in the series. I also like how they're taking him out of the role as the main protagonist, and putting him more into the troubleshooter role. When he arrives on the scene, he's now the guy people call when things have gone completely sideways. He's now the guy that will save the day, and you know that things are going to be alright - eventually. When you're playing Chris, its no longer a horror game, because he's got the guns, the back up, and the experience. Its a logical build up of his character.
However, it also means that whoever they use as their 'main protagonist' will be completely overwhelmed. They will be scrambling to keep up. They don't have the 'safety mode' engaged. When that character is involved, they are stuck worrying about every small threat because it could be their last. He's become a game universe mechanic - and done reasonably well.
You're statement about Chris reminds of when he arrived in Rockfort Island to save Claire,
I replayed CV so many times but that scene always give me chills especially with the OST
Fuck that, you have horrible taste and like poor consistency. Because that's all the last two games have done with him is devolve his character development in really dumb ways because 7-8 have identity issues.
Chris will always be an ally. Mia is no longer herself, but a zombified version and that's why he shoots her. Chris is protecting Ethan but he doesn't know it. I think by the end of Resident Evil 8 Ethan and Chris will team up against the final boss. And to be honest, I would not be suprised if it is a Wesker, maybe even Albert. The ending scene in Resident Evil 5 does not show him actually being blown up. Many be he escaped just before the rpg's made contact. And besides, if you're an RE fan and you've been following the series, you know its time for Albert to make a return.

wesker is albert for one, and he supposedly died in re 5, yet in re umbrella corp he can be heard and yes the game is canon, so wesker is alive

If there’s one thing Resident Evil has been consistent with, it would be the slow decline in Chris’s physical and mental health.
He will be that one villain who is bad in the beginning but as later when the story progress he becomes a good guy where everyone thinks is cool.
That would be like turing Zelda into the next main evil boss, anit happening. Hopefully.
True but with Chris every thing he stood for in re1,re5 and re6 it wouldn’t make sense if he became the villain but it could only be a perspective what Ethan sees through his eyes on what Chris does and doesn’t know why but in re7 he doesn’t work for umbrella the BSAA just sent him to keep an eye them because they are convinced they changed while Chris doesn’t , also I think we need a perspective where we play as Chris which could explain why he killed Mia especially with multiple bullets that you would shoot a B.O.W

So personally I like how big they made Chris it was an interesting counter point to Leon, Chris who was mainly focused on wesker a “”guy”” who can probably bench press cars while Leon focused on becoming more fast and agile, Chris can tank the hits while Leon dodges them two different mindsets for two different people both taking on the same kind of threats.
As for his look in re7 you can still see bits of the same face in the model and it also makes sense that he will have stopped the bodybuilding as he no longer needs to be that big as he has killed the only reason he needed to be jacked also as the body gets older it becomes harder to keep that much muscle.
You're spot on, I've dealt with that personally when I used to workout a lot, it's true what they say, you don't use it you lose it.

When it comes to the actual reason for his design. I do believe this was a result of the times at which RE5 was released. During those days Capcom was honestly chasing trends rather than setting them. You can see this in RE5, 6 and the DMC reboot, where they were clearly trying to imitate western trends.
So, now we have a suspiciously bulky Chris redfield, not long after the success of games like Gears of War. They of course came up with the "He trained to match Wesker" excuse later on, but I believe that, since Capcom had succesfully made Leon cool, after last time, when he was just a nice, but not too outstanding guy. In RE4 he becomes the most memorable RE character. So they clearly wanted to do somethign similar for Chris to 'Coolify' him as well, and ended up imitating western design choices.
That's my opinion on his change. That said, i do like hulk Chris, does make him stand out.

Gonna be honest, I do not like the direction Capcom seems to be taking Chris Redfield since RE7. It doesn't even feel like the same character anymore.
And I'm not feeling hype for RE Village after how disappointing RE3 Remake was.

But Chris started to change during re 5 and clearly changed after 6. Honestly his behavior in Village is expected at this point.
RE 3 always felt like dlc or a part of RE 2 that was cut out because RE 2 was too long as is.

It took me 4 years to get RE7 (I didn't even buy it a friend gifted it to me lol). I'm sure it's gonna take years for me to get Village. I'm just, not very interested. RE is my favourite game franchise but I haven't been excited for them since RE6 (which was shit).
REmake 2 was good but I got it on sale so not when it came out. Tried R3make's demo and was blown away. Then the full game came out. Haven't bought it.

Chris Redfield became an absolute tank over the years. But it wasn't for the BOWs. It wasn't for Tyrants. It wasn't even for Wesker.

RE5 Chris is my favorite. The way he smashes BOWs with his Biceps like Watermelons is ridiculous and satisfying. Not to mention that boulder punching.
If you play the Not a Hero DLC, the dialog between Chris and his Navigator informs you that Chris was tasked by the BSAA to work with Blue Umbrella for that operation in tracking down Travis Baker's transaction and connection with The Connections with the Evelyn Virus. He doesn't trust Umbrella at all despite his navigator's constant remarks that the Blue Umbrella is doing its best to make up for the former Umbrella's actions, but Chris still prefers to take the task to make sure they do NOT fuck up.
