I used to ask myself how the German citizens allowed a fascist to take over like Hitler did. Being a citizen in the US right now, I don't wonder that anymore. Edit: You people trying to explain what a "dire economic situation" Germany was in at the time are only proving my point. Trump also pointed out many of the problems in the US that people were facing and capitalized on it. His solutions are wrong, but he won people over nonetheless. Would you use the same excuse "you should have seen the economic state of the US at the time Trump was elected, the middle class was really suffering and that's why they voted Trump in" ? There's so much more than this reductionist argument, and my entire point was really trying to point out that fascism doesn't just happen overnight. It happens slowly as the citizens are subject to mass propaganda and cults of personality. Checks and balances are stripped away and power is consolidated among yes-men. The similarities between the rise of trump and the rise of hitler are strikingly similar, except hitler was a great orator, and trump only uses his racism as a tool to sow discord. Regardless, I sure hope the ending changes in this parallel. Vote in 2020 people! No matter what.

How many of them are going to be reunited? When? It's been 3 years since this policy started and it doesn't seem to end.

Because no one cares unless it actively affects you or its profitable. Do you think the Nazis were pushed back because they had concentration camps? No, its because they threatened other nations.

Largest collection of shoes since the holocaust may sound like a joke, but it's quite on-point. It's been a long time since I visited the Holocaust Museum, but one of the things that hit me hardest was going through a room with a large pile of old shoes; realizing what each shoe represented makes the whole thing a bit less abstract. I remember not being able to look away from a small, faded, dusty pink little girl's shoe.
This is exactly what I was thinking about, personal belongings framed that way are exactly what helps contextualize the holocaust. Jewelry, shoes, any of these things remind you of the weight of what was done and helps to humanize the victims.
Also brought me back to those rooms in that museum in DC. There are so many more good people who need to use their voice and be listened too. Thanks for sharing. Hope everyone has a good week!

Of course, claimed religious beliefs cannot present a true and demonstrable risk to others, nor can they infringe on other's rights to practice the same freedoms or any of their other rights, but beyond that, religion or irreligion can be a personal, community, or cultural component to a healthy mind and a healthy person. For instance, 200 years ago here in USA, around 3 million Germans came, and now there are 65 millions German-Americans; while 150 years ago, around 2 millions Irish came, and now there are 45 million Irish-Americans. While 500 years ago there were estimated 5 to 6 millions indigenous Native Americans in U.S.A, before Christopher Columbus arrived, today there are only around 2 million indigenous Native Americans survived. Imagine this scenario, if Native American people cross the Atlantic, invade and Colonize Europe, and slaughter most Europeans, and put the remaining populations in tiny reservations, for 500 long years. How would Europeans feel about it? Think about it. All they need is their beloved motherlands back, the lands that their ancestors forebears had lived through thick and thin, endured through hardships and all for generations. Besides, indigenous Native Americans in Colonized lands of Anglo British, Spaniard and others are more of the same. Kill the indigenous Natives and whoever is left, marginalize them and create artificial poverty, once that poverty becomes crime and drinking, the media points to the poor and blames them to continue to stigmatize the 'other' community, scumbags, etc. Amazing fact that Indigenous Natives had built such great civilizations as Mayan, Inca and Aztec without outside help, and all from the scratch, and all on their own, since they had been cut off from the rest of the world for ten of thousand of years. In other words, they actually are great and proud people. Imagine what would it be like today if Native Americans had possessed some sort of nuclear weapons to defend themselves, and their beloved motherlands from invaders Colonizers? The answer is they would still have their own beloved motherlands, plus their population comparable to that of European population. I've no doubt about that. For those saying the story has already been covered, Last Week Tonight is not the entiriety of Media. The issue has been extremely low-key despite its magnitude and urgency. The scope of the surveillance state that the Chinese government is building ( Ofc the American surveillance system is pretty bad too but with a robust democratic set-up and free citizenry, the chances of it being abused by the state is considerably lower) has been expanding unabated and doesn't seem to draw the kind of attention that something of that nature would be expected to.
I disagree with u only on the point that the risk of ur state abusing said system is significantly higher than u think. Just look at how Trump is "using" federal Troops at the moment - there is just nothing democratic about that, is there ? (please excuse my spelling and grammar, I´m from Germany)
@@notinsertnamehere7581 I agree but the difference lies in the fact that the entire world and the American media takes note of state excesses unlike in China where state control and excesses have been extremely normalised and the media is not free to cover such stories. A secular nation: An excellent idea and really the only way I can think of that actually ensures a reasonable measure of religious freedom. Of course, claimed religious beliefs cannot present a true and demonstrable risk to others, nor can they infringe on other's rights to practice the same freedoms or any of their other rights, but beyond that, religion or irreligion can be a personal, community, or cultural component to a healthy mind and a healthy person.
An "aggressive" secular nation: Basically dystopia. A different flavor of zealot. A gross violation of human rights. It makes all the same mistakes as a theocracy while claiming to be under some other banner. Speaking of awareness, mega genocide of indigenous Native Americans, and their population in Continents of America 500 yrs ago was around 15 millions, while European population in Europe was around 20 millions.Today, Natives population at 15 million, while European population, in Continents of America + Europe, at a staggering 'ONE BILLION'! In my humble opinion, it's about time to decolonize the Colonized lands, and return it to rightful owners Native American people. Remember, notorious global cardinal crime like Slavery & Colonialism had long been over, why on earth is this another notorious Colonization still lingering on? it's become a thing on tik tok to make makeup tutorials or DIY's with audio talking about real world issues (racism, transphobia, Covid, etc.) it gets pushed by the algorithm and your videos are less likely to be deleted.
the child comforting her mom is so incredible, What a child! 17:43
"i told you not to show your tears, mom"
it tears my heart apart.
It also concerns my that such a young child says her mother should not show her tears, where did she learn that crying is not okay? Crying is a human and often logical thing.. Everyone should be able to cry if they need to...
I'd say it's pretty much the opposite of incredible. Wrong on so many levels and just plain terrible.
@scifinatic Tizz The US has been breaking international law at the Mexican border for over a decade. It's a human rights violation under the guise of anti-immigration, and innocent children are being put into concentration camps of a different name.
