If it’s a hobby, we can say it’s expensive. But if it’s for your small business, then we can say it’s an investment. Little by little, I was able to buy the necessities for woodworking, and a few projects later everything paid for itself. Great video, thank you for the shop tour and all the great feedback! 😎🙏🏼

Shiro, your most welcome. Your thoughts are so true on the hobby vs. business! I’m so glad you were able to get what you need for your business. It makes us want to keep moving!!

A couple of suggestions: 1) Replace the ceiling hose from the CNC to your pass through with a straight pipe. Corrugated hose has 3x more airflow resistance than regular straight pipe. 2) Seal your blast gates with tin foil tape to reduce leaking. 3) Don’t use 90 degree ducting. They’re an absolute airflow/efficiency killer. Use 2 45 degree elbows instead. 4) Generally use the absolutely least amount of flex hose (ie for your vacuum attachment) for reasons stated in suggestion 1.
Thanks for sharing your video and happy CNC’ing…

Goblin, Thanks for all the awesome advice. You have some great ideas! Since this was my first dust collection setup, I did what I knew would work.. lol. Now that I've got some hours under my belt I'm now understanding where I can improve!

I currently have the 4” hose connected all the way down to the dust boot with the reducer. That’s causing issues with the hose pushing off of the boot. I think I need to do what you did and use the smaller hose at the boot and move the reducer to the vacuum exit. Nice video

ElCidPhysics90, I am so happy I was able to help you in some way. I know many people have much better systems but mine works well and I haven’t had any problems so far. I am always working and learning so one day I’ll make some upgrades!

Are you the woman who does podcasts with IDC? I bought 2 cnc machines which came with pet urn work in September but really haven’t had time to play with vcarve and really wanted to make more than boxes.

Greg, yes I am that woman, Kate. It’s nice to meet you. Please accept my apologies for the delay, I was underwater trying to manage to many things in life and unfortunately my YT took a hit.
I do hope you have had the time to learn your CNC’s and had some success! Just remember CNC is a journey and not a race. Dedicating some time to learning each day is how I found success.

Loose the T-junction in your DC. Use a Wye instead. More efficient.

Hi!, got a tip for you. Never use the Dust Dog's filter cleaner (rotating arm thingy). It's too rough and destroys your filter; replacements are quite expensive. "Cleaning" with 60psi air is best practice. Wynn filter company probably has a video. Also 'Bill Pentz', imo has the most informative and practical information for taking your DC to the next level. Explains DC vs shop-vac and hose diameters...static pressure, bla, bla, lol. I forced myself to read it until it made sense. Thumbs up for your dust-boot journey, I'm just getting into CNC and this is very helpful!

    Thanks for all your insights!
I am looking at your table that you have your Cnc machine on. Can you tell me the dimensions?
I ordered the journeyman elite and have about another month before it arrives.
I’d like to get building a table soon.
    Thanks
    Chris

Chris, Sorry for the delay friend! My table is a 8ft x 4ft by 4ft tall. I really love the table bc it gives me room to work and have space for the tools, touch screen, probe, bits, and whatever else I'm throwing over there!

Douglasmckay9685, this is a Nighthawk router. The Etsy shop name is below.
Please be sure in the note on Etsy to share that Kate Tucker told you about it. 😉 Nick and his wife are amazing people and if you have any questions, just shoot them a note!
      On Etsy: search this name.

Add a bare ground wire inside the dust hose and have it grounded at the dust extractor end to help eliminate electrostatic charge.

Jeffrey, thanks for that great tip! The static can be pretty bad especially in the winter.
