Thanks Dave for the update. Good to see you are making progress with the weight loss. Looking forward to hearing what plans you have for the photography.
Just caught your last video and it's good to see you looking and sounding so well Dave. Regarding suggestions for future videos, quite some time ago you talked about, and demonstrated, your Fuji GX680 medium format film camera. That was fascinating for me, and I'd love to see more of that type of video where you teach us more about image making: composition, exposure, developing/scanning/printing film etc., as well as the technical and artistic thought processes that get you out taking photographs. By the way, do you still use the big Fuji? More please!
Hi there Many thanks for your comment, it is much appreciated. I did really like the Fuji, but no longer have it, my issues with the camera are the reliance on batteries, the size and weight of the machine and the age of the cameras which are at least half a century by now! I am currently using the Wista 45SP with a 6x12 RFB though I may try the big Fuji again some day (I also sold my Horseman convertible some years ago and may want to replace that at some point as well) Since the MFA finished I have had some difficultydeciding what to shoot, I am working on developing some projects in Macro, UV and IR photography. Many thanks for your suggestions for future videos they were very useful. I haven't made many videos of late since I have been working pretty hard to get my weight loss to a point that I wanted - this is now finally coming to an end!! So there should be more videos pretty soon and I am thinking of videos about shooting macro, panoramas and UV/IR images. I am also concentrating on making handmade limited edition books from these projects Best wishes Dave
So good to see you are going so well, Dave. Interesting comments on the new bike and computer. I too have upgraded to a manual bike after using an ebike for a while. And very interesting comments re weight loss viz a viz calories in, calories out. The proof is obvious; you are looking great and obviously feeling even better. Cycling really is a wonderful pastime, and taking a camera with you is the icing on the cake - not that you eat cake. I’d be keen just to see anything you find interesting in your local environment; given that the chances of me getting there are slim to non-existent and it looks like a lovely part of the world. You could start with that guy Auckland who kindly gave his name to your place and mine. We, in Aotearoa, New Zealand , are going bilingual and reverting to the original names of places; replacing names given by various British personal who, it turns out to less than savoury and certainly not worth honouring in any way. Lord Hamilton comes to mind in this regard. I don’t know the history of Auckland - Bishop Auckland?? Oh , congrats on MFA; what a wonderful achievement. Well done, Dave.
Hi Simon Yes, I find that whole commemoration of the rich and powerful (euphamisms for exploitative) to ne abhorrent. The rich don't add anything to the world, and have only acquired their wealth through some pretty inhuane practices! Dave
Hi Simon Many thanks for asking, we had a great trip in the Orkneys recently and plans are afoot for the John O'Groats to Lands End trip, a bit of fine tuning to do for the route but looks like we are set for next Summer for the actual trip. Training for me is fine, I cycle 25 miles a day almost every day of the week I think Rob might want to get some more practice in to include hill climbing (not much of those on his sea wall route to Margate!) and some practice cycling with loaded panniers which he doesn't like at all. I think that we are both excited by the trip and will probably both post videos from it (I am hoping to post along route) Dave
@@DaveJSmith I recently read "The unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry" and thoroughly enjoyed it. I plan to reread it soon while on holiday in Bali. I imagine you two wise old men doing similar things and encountering similar "obstacles" that turn out to be blessings in disguise. Let's hope filming the trip to take Robert's mind off the trials and tribulations of bike packing. No doubt his mind will come up with all sorts of devices that he could have added to his bicycle to get him over them there 'ills. Sounds like you are well prepared, physically. You may need to be VERY patient with your brother. He ain't slow, he's my brother; comes to mind. Keep us posted. cheers Dave. Simon

How is the training going for the big ride with Robert? Great idea to change his perspective in times of sadness.
