A Quick Case 470 Quadtrac Tractor Video!

- In this tractor video I'll test drive a Case 470 Quadtrac at N&S Tractor, the local Case dealership in Yuba City. It's a pretty amazing tractor! Not sure how much it costs though.
I'm at N&S tractor to pick up chisel points for our plow chisels back at the equipment yard. I'll also take a moment to tour around the N&S Tractors service yard. I find a Case 9250 harvest combine that has its rotor out. Pretty cool to compare it to our Claas harvest combine. Remember when we had that opened up? Link to that video is here:

But that's not all! In the second half of this video I hit the rice fields and continue the draining process. We're insuring that the fields are drained in preparation for spring planting and tractor work!

Enjoy seeing the old Honda Fourtrax. Good machines that last forever...
You've got that "I forgot my sunglasses and really regret it" squint game going strong at the end there!
That's the exactly the one that I drive. I work 8 hours daily and it's like working only 30 minutes. Very fucking fun and easy to handle.
😉👍 keep on draining !!!! 😍😍😍😍😍
Nice looking but brisk spring day out your way Matthew as you plan and ponder your field prep operations. Here the ground is hard and a bit of snow is falling this morning, again. But inside near the space heater I am planting a few more varieties of pepper seeds. Happy Growing 2020! And for the small scale individual user, Happy Gardening! -Bob...
Hi Bob! What varieties of peppers are you growing? Super spicy ones? Glad to hear you’re staying warm.
-M.
@@Ricefarmingtv Kind of late in the day on this end Matthew, but; Super Chili F1, Biquinho, Chiltepin, Habanero Snow White, Burning Bush, Lemon Starburst, Gong Bao, Thai, Piri Piri, 7 Pot Douglah, Bangalore Whippets Tail, Brazilian Starfish, Blue Xmas. Trinity Scorpion Moruga, Aji Charapita, Scotch Bonnet, Aji White Fantasy, Sugar Rush Cream, 7 Pot Yellow, Shishito, JigSaw, Ring of Fire, Sugar Rush Peach, 7 Pot Chocolate. Before next weekend is over I will have to figure out what all else to seed start for there could be a few more varieties to try and start. Also something like the Super Chili I will be increasing the number of seed starts for a strong supply of pods for daily breakfasts and sauces / powders. Thanks for asking Matthew! -Bob...
A drone shot on how you drain your fields would have been interesting.
Love your videos
Yes! Great suggestion. I’ll do it. It would be cool to see now that the fields are all drained-then again after a big rain storm (if we get one) to compare.
-M.
Enjoy your videos, nice break and explanations of the prep work.
Hi Matt,
470 Q-trak would look awesome on your farm..
Matt says: O'theres a small ramp.
, Let's see if we can get alittle air!!
Sale's man: missed the joke..🤣😂
Ha! Yeah, salesman was all business and focused on not hitting anything around the yard and planing his route. 470 would look great indeed! Thanks Troy!
-M.
@@Ricefarmingtv welcome mate... Stay safe and best of luck with the 2020 season...👍
Pretty fun. The first tractors went on tracks,
then it became wheels and now it is back to tracks again.
Funny how trends circle around every few decades.

That’s right, Param!

I'm travel USA aftar coming your farm👌🏼👍🏻
Sounds like fun, Param.

Another great vid!
Shovel on.... I remember as a kid playing in the back on a rainy day making channels in the mud and watching water flow.... of course my shovel was a little smaller.
Hola Matthew great video I haven't thrown out a comment in awhile been busy with life but I always look forward to your videos buddy thanks
Hey Sean, I hope all is well and 2020 is going good thus far. Thanks for the message and I always like hearing from you.
-M.
Editing's great! Look forward to more rice. Get RICE!
Love the new intro
I had to do a little shovel work the other day and I thought to myself..
"I would be a terrible rice farmer "..
Haha! That’s awesome. Every day of shovel I get petty grumpy and question, “what the heck am I doing?”
-M.
@@Ricefarmingtv I ran a shovel yesterday on a washout. Guess I need some of those cool holes on the back of my shovel like yours
Hey Matt!
Could you maybe do a video or shed some light on the unique challenges on rice farming in California.
Thanks! Love the content
Hi there! Have you seen this episode?

It goes into a bit of that. I have another one on water rights if interested.

Matt would a Quad track be something you all would consider or a later model articulated four wheel drive? I know farm labor is short especially when it’s go time and you could cover more acres with one tractor but I know you would probably want to buy new tillage equipment and that’s just more to pay when what you have already works. Love your channel and all the work you put in to it and your style of editing.
Hi Sam, thanks for the message. Yeah, getting a quad track to address the labor issue would be a key reason. We’d definitely need to buy new implements too.
-M.
Nice Peterbilt jacket! 👍
Thanks Wes. Pops gave it to me after he bought a (new to him) Peterbuilt truck.
-Matthew
That low spot looked extra low, window shopping is always fun speaking to a rep here the 50-115hp tractors out sell the larger tractors as they are popular with livestock, turf farms and orchards. You'd think it would mean there would be an abundance of secondhand tractors of that size the one but they tend to be kept until they are ready for the junkyard in the sky while the large row crop tractors tend to get switched out regularly here for the latest shiny gadgets
Well, you know you should hire Post 10 on drainage duty...
But if you got faulty culverts, expect to have to fix them :D
Haha!
Thanks for sharing. That 470 would look awesome pulling a stomper. My uncle used to farm rice in soitheast ark. He used a grain drill to plant his rice does anyone arpund you do that? And do you rotate or leave amy of your fields fallow? Thanks for another informative video
A very select few farmers drill seed their rice and they aren’t around where we farm. Not sure why they do. 99% of growers aerial seed into flood irrigated fields. No we don’t rotate crops. We’ll only leave a field fallow if we are cut back on water or sell the water. Glad you enjoyed the video, Kory!
-Matthew
The pricing I believe comes under the old saying: "If you have to ask , you can't afford it":)
Oh yeah! Not only should I have not asked but he was also speaking a completely foreign language. ;)

Rice Farming TV i
What’s that, Steve?
Have you ever used hard faced chisel points ? In our area we always buy hard faced ones because the regular ones don't last long in our hard soil conditions!
Hi Kevin, we don’t and someone else asked that. I think we should consider it. But for some reason I don’t know any farmers around our area who hard-face them. Strange.
-M.
I’m north of Matthew and we used hard faced points to on aqua chisel/ v ripper
"welcome to the rice fields" triggers vietnam flashbacks
Whoa! Does it really? That’s not good. What that a saying during the war?
-Matthew
Interesting video, here's a stupid question. On that quad track when you turn the steering wheel does it just pivot in the center or do the tracks change speed on one side or the other to make it turn more? Thanks
Hey DPW, good to hear from you. I’m pretty sure it just articulates in the center and the tracks remain straight. The may change speed a bit as a function. You could also break on one side to help turn I think. I mean you can do that on normal tractors at least.
-M.
Nice tractor ride, thanks, Matthew and Mark. With all the wind we've had the last few days, are your fields drying out, Matt?
Mr. Fletcher, you’re right. This north wind has really dried up the fields. Very little water is left in the drains. I’ll have an update video Wednesday.
-M.
You need that 470 to get in and out of your fields faster but some times going to fast is a problem in those heavy grounds.....
Snack, pop corn? What about Krispy treats from that rice Krispy treat farmer? With all that straw maybee a stomper?
DW! Good call-better call. Mark and the boys at the dealership should stock locally grown rice crispy treats for sure!

I would get so distracted sharing property with the railroad, trains are just as cool as tractors, maybe cooler. I know I know, I'm a 30yr old child. Sue me 😂🚂🚜💪😎
What do you do with the remaining straw in the medium grain field?
Hi Terry, we either burn it, bury it or bale it. All outlined in more detail in this recent episode:
ua-cam.com/video/5AHIgLvZdzI/v-deo.html
Great question!
-Matthew
TM jape 👍🏻👍🏻
What is TM Jape?

I was wondering about if anyone ever ran like a vertical tillage tool of any kind over that M2 rice stubble to get it to break down more and faster. I'm from Missouri and and we run tillage over some corn ground to get the stalks to break down better during the winter
First another great video. Next why didn’t you get to drive the quad track? And lastly do you have to do all the shoveling or do you have help?
Hey Paul! I didn’t get to drive because he didn’t trust me with the tractor and I didn’t trust him with the camera! Ha! No, It was just real quick and I wanted to get some outside shots. Yes, Larry helped me with the shoveling. We split the work load.
-Matthew
Good to hear you have help. And you where probably right he looked like he could not be trusted with your camera
Hahaha! Thanks Paul!
That intro was awesome man.
Do nut farmers really make that much? I've seen quite a few fields turned into orchards around here lately. And North State Hulling has ordered a bunch of new equipment from us. So they must be making good money from all those farmers using thier co-op.
Almond farmers are doing really really well. Walnut farmers are hurting due to the trade war and perhaps the influx in walnut orchards in the last 7 years because walnuts were booming. Land value is based on nut crop value. So yeah, nut farmers really make that much.
-Matthew
More shovel work! Who knew?!!!! 😉
It’s shovel season, my friend!
-M.
#cropfit!!!!!!
You got it, Justin!
Do you worry about erosion with your draining water?
Na, this clay-like soil hold tight pretty well. It’s settled after 3 months of sitting there over the winter, compacted by all the migratory birds. Held together by last year’s root system and straw.
-M.
M206 is a pain to cut not as bad as 401 but still tough
What sort of equipment do you pull with a Quad Trak?? ...Big stuff! Lol
What sort of Dentist puts on chisel Teeth?....A very strong one! Poor mans humor, sorry. Lol
Love the videos Mathew! Jim.
They cost about a $1000 per horsepower. I Googled for the information.
Interesting way to calculate price, Bon! Thanks for passing that along.
-M.
Any fish when draining the watater
Do you start upfield or downfield when shoveling drains?
Usually upfield. It doesn’t matter much though. Let’s say I start upfield on the west side, I’ll finish and wrap around the south road and start the east side downfield. The fields are so big that the extra water flowing in doesn’t make a difference when working so fast (finishing a field in a couple hours).

Rice Farming TV
Yo!
Hello Matt, I enjoy your videos as a former California native. One question, has anybody in your rice growing region experimented with no-till rice farming to help preserve top soil?
Hi Ryan, some have (as a short cut) and suffered dramatic yield loss. We need to heavy till because we need to dry the ground out thoroughly as we’re applying our nitrogen (aqua ammonia) into it. Having the soil dry allows it to bond.
-M
Straw/mulch are benifical
Surely like Case. Matthew are they reliable..? Just would like to know? Your opinion? Liked your video.👍👌
Yeah, you know all our “tillage” pull tractors are case. They are very dependable. Great service from our local dealership too.
-M.
@@Ricefarmingtv we always bought paint color based on service and parts. Goes a long ways having good dealer support.
Totally agree Skinner! We’re not buying just to match all our paint. We’re buying for performance, price and support.
Great to know. Thanks.
Hi
Yo!
We called in punjabi language chisel point of plough -faala and plural -faale.
Will you guys be at the tulare ag show?
Another fun video, thanks! I like those quad tracks too. All they need is a giant engine sticking outa the hood like an Ed Roth drawing
Check this one out.

that 500 hood looks even more badass. If I had a tractor like that, you'd need a crowbar to get me out of it.
Thanks Lucky! Glad you enjoyed. You’re right that 500 looks darn sexy! We need matching ones.

quadtrack 470 price is well a lot
I can imagine!

Was that a Tusken Raider I saw in shadow???
Yes! Great SW reference. Aaaaaaooouuugh! That was a Tusken Raider on the rice fields of Tatooine. Great growing conditions with two suns. Problem is the water. The Empire has a tight grip on all natural resources.
-M.
How much?
Yes
You can get a used one with less than 1000 hrs for about $300,000. That doesn't include getting it to you.
Wow, yeah tractors are so much cheaper outside of California. You got a low-bed? Thanks Cliff!
-M.
@@Ricefarmingtv I do have one but it won't haul that beast! The one I saw for that price is a 2015 and is in Mason, MI. $289,900 and 498 hours. Large freight bill to CA!!!
@Acer Acres You are right. It's not much of a low boy.

Where'd the sunglasses go?
I’m trying to connect better with you, my audience by making eye contact. Except the sun is in my eyes and I can’t see anything. And I can’t find my work sunglasses. Need to go to Home Depot and get some more. Great question, Chris.

Used 2019 470 with 330hr $299,000
But that big fugly refrigerator size dpf muffler looks like 💩.
