I actually love foam tips. They take the ANC to another level in my experience. I've only had my xm5s for a couple of days but I'm very happy with them so far.

@markhannan82 definitely test all the tips. Usually large works for me but I had to go with medium for these. Squeeze the foam tips on all sides then gently twist into your ear until the buds rest comfortably. The tips will expand to the shape of your canal.
These flew under my radar on release. I actually love the xm4s but have the same complaints that you stated. I might pick these up next paycheck so thanks for the review. I can't wait to go on a run with these without them falling out hopefully.
I had Bose quiet Comfort airbuds first version. Had them 2 years, but they have been in Quaranty in a month and waiting answer from the Bose company. The best thing would be to get money back which was 236€ and buy these new Sony Airbuds or upgrade to Bose Quiet Comfort airbuds II. Will see what happens 😊

For me, The airpod pros fell out much much more than the xm4s. I found the xm4s generally much more comfortable, and am excited to see it get even better.
Decided to pick this up cant wait when they arrive. I've always admired sonys quality when it comes from wired ear pieces to their WF-C500 earbuds. They have never disappointed in the audio department.

Just purchased these coming from the xm4 and the difference is incredible. Not only are they smaller. They are also easier to get out of the case due to the redesign and the noise cancellation just seems better to me as well.
Hi again, My complaint which really bugs me with the XM 4’s is that you cannot buy the replacement ear tips you need in the Beige colour which I have. Can you raise this with SONY. If you have a contact there please as this is really not good enough Great review👍🏼
Thank you for your review. I have the XM4's and I loved them, although the batteries only lasted a coupe of years before they stopped taking a charge. I personally had a great fit with mine. I'm sure that is very subjective based on ear opening size and shape. I wore mine while mowing my lawn. I have a zero turn mower and my lawn is about 3 1/2 acres, very bumpy since it used to be pasture land, and it takes me about an hour an acre to mow it. For about a year and a half, I could mow my whole lawn with now battery issues. Once they started to fail, it didn't take long for them to completely die off. Now they sit on my desk as I contemplate what to get to replace them. The noise cancelling was easily better than a pair of foam ear plugs. And yes, the sound quality was great as you would expect from Sony.
The problem i had with the xm4 was that when you turned up the volume and you almost reached max level, instead of turning up the volume, they kind of turn up the mids and the highs instead. Which completely fucks up the sound. Is that still the same?
I’m a big fan of Sony products, I believe Sony one of company has being working well generating top level of sound quality but honestly speaking when I bought my Sony WF-Xm10004 the battery was completely annoying after 8 months used so this time will and see if this one pack with better battery life.
@@firestone34 they claimed it needed 5V charger and that caused battery issue but if USB IF certified, not sure why that is a problem. i think it is firmware from experience (went back to around 5 hrs use tho not full 8 hrs post factory initialization) but there are others who say it is combination of battery + firmware issue

Thanks CEO! I have smaller ears and have been waiting for these for some time. I have a pair of WH-XM3's which I love. I'm going to pick these up in a few weeks. I read somewhere online that the spatial audio is very- limited. It does not work with Dolby Atmos Music such as Amazon Music or Apple Music, but I read someone had it working on a Pixel 7 Pro with Netflix. I'm not too worried about the spatial audio feature but thought I would point it out. I've been waiting a while for these and glad to see they should fit my smaller ears now! Keep up the excellent work!
Do the XM5 still have the thumping issue that the Xm4 has when running? I love my Xm4's but running with them are quite annoying as I can hear every time my feet hit the track.
i have both. and i read that with anc in general you have the issue with some white noise. but with the xm4 there is none. with the xm5 you can clearly hear it. it sounds like you are at the ocean.
I never had a problem with the xm4 earbud size, but I did find the foam tips were too small to get a consistent seal in both ears though. I resorted to getting larger silicone tips. I hoped Sony would have actually catered for bigger ears this time as well.
Still like my xm4, fortunately the fit has not been bden an issue for me and anc is great, will wait to next gen maybe with HiFi sound. Thanks for thr review.

The Bragi Dash Pro had not only nod or shake head gesture to accept or reject a call but also full menu navigation from head gestures... Back in 2014... I'm baffled how nothing on the market has ever even come close to this device in 9 years.

I decided my XM4 earbuds were virtually the same in sound as the XM5. But both are better than my Linkbuds S. So I passed on the XM5’s, along with the reasons that the glossy surface is easy to scratch and there’s no increase in battery life despite a smaller shape.
Your comment "no increase in battery life despite a smaller shape" is contradictory though. A smaller shape would usually mean lower battery life since the battery space will have to be smaller. The fact that it stays the same despite the smaller profile is actually better battery life.

I've had 2 pairs of the XM4 and they both demonstrate significant battery drain after 1 year of use. These earbuds are too expensive to only give you 1 year of good performance. Additionally when crossing intersections sometimes the connection would go in and out. I'm afraid to spend even more money on another Sony earbuds' product (xm5) if this will be the same result. Although quite good, your review stated the battery life was great but that was with a new pair. If you check back in a year, you may have the same issue as me as I've seen negative feedback online regarding the longevity of the battery.
I kept the receipt for mine and every 11 months or so I show how the battery drains out of them and they give me a new pair or my money back. I'm on my 3rd pair so far. Not an issue for me 😅

Ya so mine flashed red when charging recently and they last maybe 5 to 10 mins, Sony firmware screwed shit up bad but I also accept that my batteries are heavy use and almost 3 years old. The multipoint update is what goofed it all up. I'm probably grabbing the xm5s but I'm gonna be annoyed if they don't go louder that the xm4s
@pottyputter05 ok so it's not just me. I mean I barely dropped these things and they still worked fine up until recently, which is why i think it wasn't the fact I dropped them. And i just thought of this but maybe theyre trying to the same thing that Apple did with their iPhones in the past, where they sabotage the previous models to make people buy the new ones, because I mean they just released the xm5 so it's possible.
I am still looking for reviews of the XM5s if Sony has corrected the right ear battery problem. My set of XM4s have the right earbud discharging way faster than the left earbud. Any replies welcomed.
Great review. It just doesn't justify the price tag difference. I thought sound quality was dramatically improved and or ANC but, what you said about the fit is completely subjective and may apply for someone with small ear canals, still adapter make up for it. So, all in all, Id keep the xm4's until further notice. Appreciate your very informative review
Hi! Can the touch controls be turned off / disabled completely? Or are they super sensitive? I recently returned the Bose QC Ultra earbuds, the touch controls were too sensitive which kept pausing music even with just my hair brushing past it! So annoying. 😅 love your videos btw 👍

Does anyone else's XM5s suck at noise cancelling? I tried the various earbud sizes but can still hear my laptop's fans, the sounds of cars outside, etc.
Thank you, nice review. Unfortunately, I am one a growing number who believe that the noise cancelling is abysmal and disappointing. It maybe that I have ear canals that are incompatible with the earbuds. Certainly compared to the Bose Ultra and Jabra Elite 10 which just work straight out of the box. They certainly don’t drown background noise as illustrated in your video.
I have been using my WF-1000XM4 for all this year and i just lost one hearbud I have been so sad since that; I was gonna buy the same headphones until i saw thisss! I am soo excited. My fav. Feature is that when I talk they change to transparency and pause!!(savior for that time when I worked at that factory where i want supposed to use them hehehe)

Great video. The XM4's are too big for me also. Thinking about getting the XM5's now. As for cleaning the foam tips, I just take them off the ear bud and run them under hot water for a bit and then let them air dry.
The biggest issue you had with the XM4 was the size? What about the fact that when they got a software update they completely destroyed the headphones battery life to the point where they don't last 5 minutes. That was the real issue with the XM4.
The size ont he XM4s definitely do suck. But I found a GREAT fix. I had some tips left from my Anker Soundcore Liberty Pro 2s laying around and put them on. Not only do the XM4s sound even better than they did, they also stay tf in my ear!
This is really helpful. I'm considering the XM5 buds; I have the headband-type XM4s and they're perfect, except I sometimes get headaches from the headband squeezing my head, and loosening it just makes them wobbly. I'd also like to use the buds for working out, so I'm relieved that they are water resistant. Thanks again!
@@jamielobo855 The headband is giving you headaches? I have similar issues at work because of headwear. It's not even that my head is too big, it's just a weird shape I guess? I'm not sure this is a problem with the headphones, it's probably just my skull! Are you better off for switching?
I wonder how easy it will be to replace the battery's when the time arises? When I spend this amount of money, I want to be able to repace the battery's and at some point, choose how far I want to charge my ear buds (90% / 80% / 70%). I don't always want my earbuds at 100%, this is hard the battery's.
Had the MX4! I was happy with it since the battery went down, after a year and 1/3. Fortunately were I live we have by law 2 years of warranty so they ask me: you want another or a refund? So I got the refund. Now I just ordered de MX5! Hope not to be disappointed!

I have unusually small ears, so I like the Galaxy Buds 2 pro because of how compact they are. Otherwise I usually go with something that has an earhook like the soundcore sport X10

Because I have abnormally small ears and they were probably come out With a lot of movement. I typically use the soundcore sport x10 or the samsung galaxy buds 2 pro.
Thank you for 1:55. You are probably the only reviewer that noticed it is almost impossible to get original replacement ear tips from Sony. I have tried, after few hours wasted bouncing from one customer care representative to other I was informed that I have to go through repair center and it will cost about 40-50 dollars to get new one pair (ONE) of Sony foam ear tips. Ridiculous. Especially as tips need to be replaced every few months.
I called Sony itself, and they sent me a new set for free. I told them where and when I got them, and they asked my name and my address and hooked me up.
@@VioladorDeLaLey21 This is exception not a rule. Out of many reddit threads about this problem there is always one person from western country that says what you said. This is not what majority of Sony users experience when it comes to this issue.
I think the main issue is, do I gamble on getting the 5s and after my xm4s batteries went south WAY BEFORE THEY SHOULD. I don't care about the bells and whistles. Are the batteries worth a damn? The should've have recalled all the xm4s and issued a credit.

How can you say that the foam "after extended use they started to deteriorate ..." when your XM4 is literary siting on the shelf?
Because it's a common issue. I've received numerous comments of ppl complaining about it over the years.
xm4 with after market tips was a game changer for me. Fit was much better than stock.

There’s multiple earbud foam tips you can buy to accommodate any size ear you have. There’s even plastic ones that mold to your ear.

I’ve notice no difference with the XM4 with silicone or memory foam tips in terms of noise cancellation. My ear favors silicone as well.

I am still looking for reviews of the XM5s if Sony has corrected the right ear battery problem. My set of XM4s have the right earbud discharging way faster than the left earbud. Any replies welcomed.
Do they have always listning feature? Being able to just say, "Hey Google, without touching and holding the earbuds?
Great review. It just doesn't justify the price tag difference. I thought sound quality was dramatically improved and or ANC but, what you said about the fit is completely subjective and may apply for someone with small ear canals, still adapter make up for it. So, all in all, Id keep the xm4's until further notice. Appreciate your very informative review
Hi! Can the touch controls be turned off / disabled completely? Or are they super sensitive?
I recently returned the Bose QC Ultra earbuds, the touch controls were too sensitive which kept pausing music even with just my hair brushing past it! So annoying. 😅 love your videos btw 👍

Hi - Samsung wf-1000xm5 v/s jabra elite 10, which one do you suggest in terms of Sound quality and noise cancelling ?And price is not a constraint for me!

Does anyone else's XM5s suck at noise cancelling? I tried the various earbud sizes but can still hear my laptop's fans, the sounds of cars outside, etc.

Thank you, nice review. Unfortunately, I am one a growing number who believe that the noise cancelling is abysmal and disappointing. It maybe that I have ear canals that are incompatible with the earbuds. Certainly compared to the Bose Ultra and Jabra Elite 10 which just work straight out of the box. They certainly don’t drown background noise as illustrated in your video.

Have you actually tried the Comply brand eartips? I actually prefer them to the OEM tips.
Do they give you the option to use them without any ANC turned on? (I.e. as regular headphones, not 'ambient/aware' mode or whatever)

I am soo excited. My fav. Feature is that when I talk they change to transparency and pause!!(savior for that time when I worked at that factory where i want supposed to use them hehehe)
I've had just read that most of reviewers are given prototype product rather than a final product. There's a difference in ANC and mic quality between them

Why wouldn’t you recommend these for the gym? Can you elaborate more please. I currently have the AirPod pros and I love them, but I lost them & looking for earbuds, I can’t do earphones

How long do they last? All I could get was hour and a half. Once I switch to silicone tips I love the sound and fit

Great video. The XM4's are too big for me also. Thinking about getting the XM5's now. As for cleaning the foam tips, I just take them off the ear bud and run them under hot water for a bit and then let them air dry.
I got the M4 and they where too quite for me, no matter how much I played with the EQ.
I bought the Bose Quietcomfort earbuds 2 and it was better.

The biggest issue you had with the XM4 was the size? What about the fact that when they got a software update they completely destroyed the headphones battery life to the point where they don't last 5 minutes. That was the real issue with the XM4.
The size ont he XM4s definitely do suck. But I found a GREAT fix. I had some tips left from my Anker Soundcore Liberty Pro 2s laying around and put them on. Not only do the XM4s sound even better than they did, they also stay tf in my ear!

This is really helpful. I'm considering the XM5 buds; I have the headband-type XM4s and they're perfect, except I sometimes get headaches from the headband squeezing my head, and loosening it just makes them wobbly. I'd also like to use the buds for working out, so I'm relieved that they are water resistant.

@@jamielobo855 The headband is giving you headaches? I have similar issues at work because of headwear. It's not even that my head is too big, it's just a weird shape I guess? I'm not sure this is a problem with the headphones, it's probably just my skull!

I have the XM 4’s which I think are amazing except you can’t get the pale colour eartip replacements- ridiculous
I wonder how easy it will be to replace the battery's when the time arises? When I spend this amount of money, I want to be able to repace the battery's and at some point, choose how far I want to charge my ear buds (90% / 80% / 70%). I don't always want my earbuds at 100%, this is hard the battery's.

Had the MX4! I was happy with it since the battery went down, after a year and 1/3. Fortunately were I live we have by law 2 years of warranty so they ask me: you want another or a refund? So I got the refund. Now I just ordered de MX5! Hope not to be disappointed!
Any comments re using these, either one, on a motorcycle with a built in sound system such as an Indian or BMW? re ANC or quality of sound?

You noted you wouldn't wear these for the gym. Which earbuds would you recommend? I've been using the WH-1000XM5 over ears for everything and I am tired of them sliding off my head in the gym. Time to upgrade.
I have unusually small ears, so I like the Galaxy Buds 2 pro because of how compact they are. Otherwise I usually go with something that has an earhook like the soundcore sport X10

Why would you not use them to workout and what would you use instead?
Because I have abnormally small ears and they were probably come out With a lot of movement. I typically use the soundcore sport x10 or the samsung galaxy buds 2 pro.
How do they compare with the Jabra Elite 7 Active as far as secure fit and ANC?

Thank you for 1:55. You are probably the only reviewer that noticed it is almost impossible to get original replacement ear tips from Sony.
I have tried, after few hours wasted bouncing from one customer care representative to other I was informed that I have to go through repair center and it will cost about 40-50 dollars to get new one pair (ONE) of Sony foam ear tips. Ridiculous. Especially as tips need to be replaced every few months.
I called Sony itself, and they sent me a new set for free. I told them where and when I got them, and they asked my name and my address and hooked me up.
@@VioladorDeLaLey21 This is exception not a rule. Out of many reddit threads about this problem there is always one person from western country that says what you said. This is not what majority of Sony users experience when it comes to this issue.
I had to sell my XM4's as I just couldn't get them to fit my ears nicely, and when trying to use them while running it was impossible!

Can you compare xm3 to xm 5? I still think that xm3 is the best for flights. Any thoughts?

I think the main issue is, do I gamble on getting the 5s and after my xm4s batteries went south WAY BEFORE THEY SHOULD. I don't care about the bells and whistles. Are the batteries worth a damn? The should've have recalled all the xm4s and issued a credit.
