19:30 Yo Tory ! , just some quick advice for your mom, a tandem axle travel trailer (2 axle - 4 tires) is easier and more reliable to tow than a single axle (2 tires) ...if you have a blowout, you still have 3 tires to roll on! then depending on the weight of the trailer (gvwr) + (hitch weight), she's gonna need a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton truck that can tow up to 8-9000 pounds... especially if she's gonna be towing through mountains ... Happy hunting !!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Your honesty was refreshing in this video. We need to educate people to be budget conscious and realistic with their off-road dreams. This, in turn, will cause manufacturers to adjust to better prices and quality. Right now the industry is delusional and perhaps so are the customers.
Always buy quality after 10 years it will not look worn out and will still have value. That’s why people can buy airstreams, after the first investment they get a good chunk back each time they trade. At the more reasonable level the same still applies, durable materials, timeless colours, solid brand. They will have fewer problems and thus cost less to maintain yet still have value after 5 or 10 years. You always need to look at the whole life cost of any large purchase. Get one where they may allow the extra things you need. Most builders have options lists that are not always displayed at shows, upgraded materials, configuration options and some will have bespoke options as well.
I would highly recommend watching videos from the Liz Amazing UA-cam channel. She goes into a deep dive of the problematic build quality for a lot of trailers and motorhomes. The last thing I want to see for you guys is for your mom to be super excited for a trailer only to have a myriad of issues with it once it's driven off the lot.
We have had 4 over the years and no matter if they are $20kor $250k its nothing but issues and fixing broken stuff if fixing leaks. They are so cheaply made these days, will never buy another.
Thanks for taking us along on this journey. My wife and I purchased a 2023 EAST to West Alta LE 1600MRB Aug. 2023 and it is just perfect with its murphy bed, large window over the campsite dinette and it folds into a bed with a rear bath w/ closet to boot. Lovin-it!
Arm wrestling on a new travel trailer table. I was waiting for the table to go first. 😂 The more I see of new trailers the more I like vintage ones. Either way it's going to cost money.
As for me, I always buy used and well maintained when it comes to RVs and motorhomes. When you buy a brand-new motorhome or towable, it has already depreciated by 50% the minute you complete the transaction and drive it off the lot. I even bought a used well maintained 2017 Jayco Grayhawk ME directly from the owner for $70,000 with only 13,000 miles on it and it even came with a Sleep Number mattress which is super comfortable, and everything works wonderful on it as well as it drives smooth. I have heard many brand-new RVs having tons of problems as well, especially post pandemic.
Out of all of these, I love two that are very affordable. One of them is what you said is your favorite. It has a very nice layout, is spacious and affordable monthly with my budget. The only things I would change are converting to 100% electric, adding a large solar system to it, and color scheme. The second one was right after your and my favorite. By the way, you, your mom and Angel are very beautiful! I would love to see your van build process before through after, and hopefully, you go 100% electric with solar (it's a bit more expensive but far cheaper in the long run if done correctly).
I bought an F-150 and put a nice cap on it. Really wrestled with getting an RV, then converting a stealth van (which tbqh I might still do) but finally figured the truck would do 99% of what I wanted. Even sleeping, although at 6'3" it's not as comfortable as home. Don't know where you're from, but there are enough back roads that wind up going through tunnels & low bridges that even the truck just squeaks under, that would have made an RV an unexpected convertible. The power banks (couple of Ankers, which have been great) make a huge difference in liveability. Put the solar cells on the roof or charge while driving from a 12v outlet and done. Fans here and there for cooling and quality down (Marmot) for colder sleeping. No worries about high winds and the skid plates on the underside take away many off the beaten path worries. Parking garages are doable, but sometimes take the Thule bars off just for those last inches of clearance. Either way, it's nice to be able to follow that interesting road on a moment's notice. Happy trails!
Thanks for taking us along. I think the intended use heavily dictates what style and size Travel trailer is best. I have owned several over the years. I have found that more options and square footage also comes with a higher price, more weight, much more difficulty to tow and park and a lot more fuel used per mile of travel. My first travel trailer was a 22' x7' with a slide out. It was pretty good for two and perfect for one. I used it for lots of in state long weekend type trips and a couple of 2,000 to 3,500 mile round multi-week trips. Our next one was a lot larger at 30' x 8' also with a slide. This unit was best for in state multiple day camping trips. Perfect for two. I did a 3,000 mile trip with this one too but the fuel costs where really high and finding places along the way to stop for meals and such was difficult due the size of the unit. Recently I retired and I am planning on doing a bucket list trip covering as much of the US as I can. Since I will be doing a lot of miles and lots of one night stays I have purchased a the smallest and lightest self container (full dry bath with shower) teardrop style camper. It is only 16' x 7' and under 2,000 lbs and is super easy to pull, handle and park, using my full sized pickup. On the interstate (70 MPH or so ) I am getting around 13 miles per gallon. A big improvement over the 30' camper at 8 MPG on similar roads. ;-) Best of luck in your search! Happy camping and safe travels. ;-)
I think when I build my pull-behind, I'll just get an 8x16 enclosed car trailer and build my own thang. Cheaper. Better insulation. Won't have to delete the stuff that I don't want.
Im inspired to make a trip out there someday. Good job editing, appreciate the effort. Def get what you pay for and building your own is prolly the best method or by used. Im looking for one to use as I work remote. Thanks for info and nice smile/humor.
Glad you guys had fun. I was there too. It was a hot, exhausting day but it was fascinating seeing the inexpensive to the ridiculously luxurious rv’s. Btw, I liked your scary kool aid bandit music interlude.
Build your mom a van or do a cargo conversion. There's not a single large corporate rv or travel trailer that I have found that is well built or engineered. They may look nice, but you can spend 6 figures and still get rats nest wiring and leaky plumbing, not to mention frame flex and walls and roofs that leak. Apart from Globe Trekker, I haven't found a structural insulated panel that works either. The small van builders are where its' at.
You won't find one, not because of the reasons you just named but because of virations. It is virtually impossible to actually find any trailer, including a self built trailer that won't have issues. Well, unless you build an earth roamer.
A couple of those trailers I also looked at, like the 13 foot Aurora and Catalina, both have no shower surround, so you have to wipe down the walls after the shower. I didn’t understand why they didn’t include a freezer. Initially I was told the fridge only ran on AC, but it is actually 12 volt. Trailers are interesting for use as a base, but I’m sticking with my van for now
I like the stove by a window adjacent to the door so you can see out when your cooking. I don't like not knowing whats behind me. But I too like that trailer.
A small RV you could tow with your van wouldn't be a terrible scenario. You could then find some semi permanent locations to park it for a reasonable monthly fee. Almost like a home base but still have the freedom to move around in your van as well.
Make sure they don't have nonsense about requiring them to be empty during transportation. Some are so cheaply built, you cannot fill the water tank or the frame will break on the road. The pleated skirt is fantastic. Don't know why they aren't more popular.
mouse proofing any trailer/ rv will be required.on my 30 ft worksite trailer I had the optional northwest package for below freezing weather which included a insulated / heated fresh water tank and the grey/blackwater tanks also central heating with a 16000 btu propane fan force furnace. and air conditioner for hot weather it also came with the double window package to insulate from the cold. 🥶 temperatures.can get below -30 f. during the winter and generator power will have to run overnight to prevent the 4 /12v deep cycle batteries from running out of power. and they are inside a 6x4 foot custom self made battery box made out of plywood that is insulated with 2 inch thick pink polystyrene insulation board with airtight fit. this rig has been going since new in 2004. and so far replaced the fridge , furnace , hot water tank.🙂
I went to Hershey a couple years ago, did a two day trip and I don’t think I saw everything. I like the Shasta but would trade the sofa for a 2 person dinette. “Your favorite” had a nice bathroom, especially the sink area - lots of counter space - some barely have enough room for a toothbrush. I like to have a comfortable dinette, one that you could sit at for hours and still be comfy. Funny you mention designing RVs, some seem like there was not a lot of thought put into them. Also, don’t discount a used Airstream or the other higher end brands - they really are built better and should last longer. Thanks for taking me along 🤗
Wish you lived close to Fort Worth Texas. I have got a three-year-old 20’ 8 foot wide Dutchman ultralight that my wife and I have used used eight times that I’m selling for $15,000 and everything comes with it.😂
What about buying a used Winnebago trailer and refurbishing it? What kind of table is it that swings out to let people in the booth? New cabinets, range, dual powered fridge/freezer, solar panels, a/c heat pump?
the issue with the super cheap campers is you get what you pay for. you will most likely regret buying a cheap camper. don't be afraid to spend a little more money on quality and value. do some research and you'll quickly find out why. Flagstaff, Cougar, are good quality and decent value pricing.
Last camper i bought was in late 80s... For $500, spent another 700 on materials and it lasted for years. Nowadays theyre shiny junk that cost more than my house.
Tell your mom that she needs to do her due diligence and do an internet search on Forest River and Lippert Components Inc class action lawsuits about Lippert's cracked trailer frames and defective axles and fire hazard wiring in Forest River trailers. Food for thought. Famous investor Warren Buffet, who is nowhere near an RV'er or camping enthusiast, bought Forest River because of their volume sold, not their safety or build quality. You intuitively feel there is something amiss when you see a 8.5' wide by 20' long twin torsion axle heavy duty off road camping trailer built by Colorado Off Road Trailer that sells for $30,000 and has only half the amenities those $20,000 Forest Rivers.
I've been looking at travel trailers a lot to full time in, but they're all just so cheaply built. I'm seriously leaning towards doing a cargo trailer conversion instead.
I have a new 2024 wildcat got a great deal so no depreciation likely; but so far we have at least two water leaks, one window we believe is leaking, mold under the dinette, standing water under bathroom sink, broken water inlet port, no keys for outside pass through. this is a $68,000 RV MSRP. Zero response to multiple calls, e-mails, txt to Both the dealer and the manufacturer. Just like my first smaller trailer, I would not buy anything from a big RV manufacturer. Also our RV sleeps to according to manufacturer but unless your 5 feet tall it only sleeps two in main bedroom. There are no other sleeping areas besides u-dinette and double lounge chairs, but you got to be under 5 foot to sleep in those. Anything headquartered in Indiana is junk.
The flagstaff e pro is hands down worth 10k more then the others 😂😂. Not even close you don’t want the 2025 though you want the 2024s if going with a Bh model so you gain more kitchen space and get the oven back.. idk why rivers did that with the flipped floorplan.. I know many asked for it but losing the oven and kitchen space is not with it.. go back tot he 2024 layout with the 2025 upgrades
Various factors must be considered when addressing recreational vehicle (RV) capabilities, including fresh water supply and the management of black and gray tanks. Notably, there are claims that a 17-foot RV can be towed by a Jeep; however, such assertions often overlook the impact of trailer sway caused by wind during travel. For towing RVs of this size, I recommend utilizing no less than a half-ton truck to ensure safety and stability on the road. Initially, individuals need to consider the vehicle with which they intend to tow. Subsequently, they must evaluate the necessary features to ensure a comfortable living experience. Equally important is establishing a budget, precisely determining the amount they are willing to invest. Many individuals need more clarity regarding their requirements. A significant challenge in the search process is the tendency to compare against higher-priced recreational vehicles, where sales representatives may persuade them to purchase items that they believe are essential. Upon usage, it is common for individuals to realize that the acquisition does not align with their expectations. Watching this video is like watching the blind leading the blind.
Be aware how to tell a Wooden camper to a aluminum built camper.. Aluminum built camper has smooth siding, Wooden built has the rigged siding. I never knew that until I use to Haul campers to dealerships across Country. Wooden is heavier than Aluminum built, Wooden gotta worry about termites and carpenter ants.
Hey Tory! I'm sure you realize that most new trailers are cheaply made, low-quality junk. Maybe consider buying a cargo trailer and building it out for your mom? Also, why buy new when you can save *stupid amounts* on lightly used (1-3 years old) units and then "renovate" them? George at Humble Road has some good tips/info for trailers -- he might even be willing to do a collab-style informational video with you. I'd suggest looking at an (fiberglass) *Intec Sol Horizon* if you want a better quality lightweight trailer. PS -- Angel may well have a future in showbiz when she's tired of soccer! Cheers!...from North Vancouver
Saying Forest River is "bad" is like saying GM is bad. Which GM? Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, GMC? There are many brands under the Forest River umbrella. Some are cheaply made. Some, like Rockwood and Flagstaff are very good quality. A good indicator of quality is how well they hold their resale value. An Ozark is going to lose value much more quickly than a Rockwood.
on the arm wrestle, me thinks Tory could use 5-10lbs more of muscle... Thanks for the RV show. oh and yea you probably will build a better RV than whats in the show.
I've been researching RVs for years and years ....because when I retire that's what I want to do and I'm a couple years from that,.,. In my personal opinion anything by Forest River is made cheaply and will fall apart... You can look at used campers anywhere and find fairly new campers for sale by a lot of owners that owned Forest River... Because a lot of things they put together cheaply... For example instead of using nails to put their walls together they used Staples... You could be driving down the road and see a gap in the wall to the outside... might seem important as you're looking around what's cheap aesthetically.. it's more important how someone builds something then how cheap their cupboards are ...Forest River has a lot nicer quality in the most on their things inside ...but they're not put together well... Buyer beware
Did you record your video in HDR? It's Dark! You should blame your mom for being the best detective in the world! She IS the bandit, and she played you all along, yes, she had the last laugh!
lol the koolaid bandit.. already know where this is going.. all new rvs are shipped with antifreeze in the lines cause they never know where or when they are going. That red liquid is the antifreeze coming out the facets 😂😂
Before you buy anything, make sure you watch UA-cam videos and get an RV professional inspector. Many customers are having major problems with their RV's. Tires that are old ( date is stamped on the sidewall ), AC units failing or aren't connected properly, horrible electrical wiring, roof leaks / window leaks, plumbing leaks and overall horrible craftsmanship.
That’s what so many of these shows can be good for: getting ideas for something that you’re building
I love trailers with rear bathrooms. Usually way more space to move around. Dont buy from camping world.
Your honesty was refreshing in this video. We need to educate people to be budget conscious and realistic with their off-road dreams. This, in turn, will cause manufacturers to adjust to better prices and quality. Right now the industry is delusional and perhaps so are the customers.
Consider a fiberglass trailer, like Escape, Casita, Scamp, BigFoot, and a few others. Thanks for sharing your day at the RV show.

I'm thinking the same thing. 😊

I have no idea on how this ended up in my algorithm, that said very entertaining. Subscribed 😂
Loved the B roll pieces.

Hello pretty lady Miss Delury! From South Central United States wishing you a happy Friday and weekend. Looks like y'all had a blast!🥰❤️🔥

Your line "do you like it 10 thousand dollars more?" is so relatable!
Not a slide out 😂
Tory, my friend, You're so beyond this. Hawkin' RVs ? But letting a mom make her own mistakes? Priceless !
👍 Rock on 😂
LMAO RV Antifreeze hilarious I’ll be using that on the kids next show!

You can build one to your mom. You are talented
Didn't catch the answer in the video, but do you guys have a truck to pull a trailer?

I like your favorite one as well. Now if I can fit it in a box truck so it becomes stealth .
That was very pleasant to watch. You are a very cool person (and very beautiful) !
17:24 Shower Miser system all day !!!! And a large fart fan !!!

Quality is a rare find with these TTs. And the window blind should come with instructions.... dont beat yourself up 😅
Various factors must be considered when addressing recreational vehicle (RV) capabilities, including fresh water supply and the management of black and gray tanks.
I love mom. 😊
Just stumbled on your content. Love it and just a side note, you are soo cute and beautiful
I'm pretty sure that the Forest River Viking 17SFQ isn't 17 square feet, I think the SFQ is just the model name.
17 Foot Front Sleeper Queen rofl.
Cheers!...from North Vancouver
for the price you pay on those trailers, do they atleast have solar panels and a battery bank built in?
I would buy a 13 foot Taylor coach for a great lower priced one.
Where do you sit to eat in the tiny $13000 one?
Firstly I didn't thought about Cool Aid and anti-freeze but I thought all these RVs got on their period 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I Love Your Personality
I have the BH17 Viking 2016. Still looks the same.
I think you should make sure your lenses are clean before filming. That’s why they always have such huge auras around lights and it looks hazy.
Was there no EarthRoamer stuff there?
Saying Forest River is "bad" is like saying GM is bad. Which GM? Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, GMC? There are many brands under the Forest River umbrella. Some are cheaply made. Some, like Rockwood and Flagstaff are very good quality. A good indicator of quality is how well they hold their resale value. An Ozark is going to lose value much more quickly than a Rockwood.
Your Family is very very very Cool 😎 Tory, And, You have Your Mother Beautiful Personality To Tory.
on the arm wrestle, me thinks Tory could use 5-10lbs more of muscle... Thanks for the RV show. oh and yea you probably will build a better RV than whats in the show.
Ive found the Coleman lantern is the best for the least money.
Buyer beware
awesome video 😊
Thank you!!☺️
Victoria is a genius
For a better alternative research Incredible Tiny Homes.
Uncle Eric... The alien??? lol
Hahaha I didn’t want you to have to find out this way! LOL
What was the price on that van!!
Front Murphy Bed!
one of you were grabbing table during the arm wrestling.
Fun!
