It's been nice watching your videos. Too bad everything is going towards subscriptions these days. Thanks for putting out good content for free while you did.
I concur that an X300u is an excellent light for a home defense carbine. Easy to mount, doesn't take up much real estate, and simple operation. I think I will upgrade to the Turbo on a couple of my carbines, but I will stick with the 1000 lumen models I have on multiple pistols.
Thanks for all the free knowledge you shared over the years man. Can’t blame ya… get yours. Hopefully I’ll scoop a subscription when my financial situation is a bit better. Best of luck Aaron. I’ll be going back thru the YT catalog I’m sure.
What the hell is wrong with you guys? If you have to pay for it, it’s not worth watching? I would say you guys are only cheating yourselves. Stop being such a mooch & Pony up $ It’s not gonna kill you. In fact, with the stuff that Aaron puts out; it might save your life someday.
Right when you said “well actuallyyyy” I was thinking the same thing. Everybody being so hyped on knowing what candela means like they solved the theory of relativity
Man back in the 90’s when I was an auxiliary deputy we had those huge mag lights we had to plug into the charger next to our seats in the cruisers. Lights are literally light years ahead of that these days!!
Throw is related to the size ratio between the LED emitter and the reflector so a smaller emitter can get amore focused spot from a given size of reflector. But smaller LED’s cant pump out as many lumens as larger LED’s. That is why high candela lights have lower lumens. The ratio of candela per lumen is the best way to estimate the throw & spill from looking at a light’s stats.
I see companies going from the buzz word being lumens to the buzz word being candela. This isn’t to say I don’t understand the importance of candela, but that in my experience companies want to boil their products down into one number they can point to and say that number is higher than the competitors. I think lights are more nuanced than one number (and as the guys at Werkz holsters have shown in testing sometimes the companies misrepresent their products). I hope people put the time into researching a product more than one number on a box.

@@SageDynamics I'd pay for that, your channel is by far the most valuable source of information regarding firearms and self defense. I learned a lot from you, I practice and teach my wife and my parents with the same information and mindset. Its definitely worth it.
The downfall is the CR123s. I’m definitely trying to take that curve to get away from them in the regards to primary used lights. Hopefully Cloud will get their pistol light out next year.
I don't really understand why the 18350 rechargeables aren't the standard for the whole industry. Then I can match my pistol, handheld, and rifle light batteries all together.
Been carrying my modlite pl350 daily since it came to market and im happy theres other reliable options with a similar candela output, for sure gonna give it a try but its gonna be hard to get back from rechargeable batteries hehe.
I’m going Patreon because I’m not a UA-camr. My primary income has never been videos, however making videos can be expensive. This move also allows Patreons to have more of a voice in what videos get made.
The comment about lowering lumens to get higher candela is kind of a dumb argument in my opinion. If you raise candela you should just take the lumens from from flood and just have less flood. There's no reason to go down in overall output
I really like rechargeable batteries just not units with built in batteries. I’d rather have the ability to put in fresh batteries on the go incase i forgot to charge it or whatever.
Are you opposed to making comparison videos on general principle, or strictly in the context of how so many people have a tendency to reduce that to one being objectively more useful than the other? I feel directly comparing objective properties and discussing their subjective applications could possibly be really beneficial for review, and could potentially even just help everyone better understand what kind of properties are good for which applications.
Your reviews are amongst the best man. I wish I would have known about your channel when I was in LE. I watched this video and decided I want one. I have several x300U (the B, not A) so this will be great. I took to the internet and everyone is sold out. Must have watched this video. Lol.
Literally commenting before I watch the video XD was super excited for this video. Scrolling through my recommended and this video popped up, jumped on it so quick.
My x300 is currently on my 12.7 AR build with the pressure pad. I'm either upgrading to the cloud defensive rein 2.0 or putting a turbo on the rifle and putting the regular x300 back on my HD gun.
It's not been in stock yet that I have seen anywhere. As usual Surefire announced the Turbo series at Shot Show 2022 last January, but you still can't buy it. We will lucky if it's even available by Shot Show 2023 this January. Never get your hopes up for new Surefire products in a timely manner. You will be sorely disappointed.
Idk, that’s what some thought about Modlite when they first came out with their pistol light and it had some teething issues. A problem I have personally is I already have holsters specific to a light, and swapping those out for a new light gets expensive and takes time to be available. That’s why something like this is has the appeal it does for me.
The plhv2 is the perfect head over the Okw there’s a guy nocturnal guy on UA-cam did a comparison the plhv2 has just as tight beam as the turbo just a tad brighter imo for home defense or Leo on a pistol the plhv2 is king
I just bought an X300 Ultra and mounted it on my handgun. Do you all use that metal locking clip for the battery compartment? And is that same clip on the X300 Turbo? It seems like a snag hazard to me and the battery compartment closes and locks fairly well without it.
On a handgun you won't have to use it since the battery door will usually rest closed against the trigger guard. No chance that it'll come open unless you take the light off the weapon. When using the light on a rifle, it is encouraged to use the cotter pin in order to prevent the battery compartment from accidentally opening (depending on where it is mounted).
I just bought a X300U a week and a half ago, and I love it. Its a bit big for what it is but it is durable. I thought about getting the X300T and its is very cool but im just puting it on my CCW so I dont need to see at 100 yards. I really just want a bight flood. For a riffle though I would opt for the 300T.
You need to watch more of his videos. He even talks about important reasons for more candela in this video. More candela and a bright hot spot are what you want over flood for any weapon mounted light, even a ccw pistol.
