Thanks so much for all the detail, We just found 2 coleman stoves up in the loft that we had forgotten were up there. One is probably 50 years old and has 3 burners. We have had them 15 years and havent used them so I know they need cleaned.

Awesome videos, that looks like my exact stove I picked up at a garage sale for 4 bucks, now I know how to fix the pump. Thank you

Thanks for the chain cleaning method for rust in the tank. My tank was horrible having dead gas in it for decades. I used about a 6" length of bicycle chain. tied a cord to one end so I could remove it.. Just put my thumb over the hole to hold the cord while shaking. The bike chain has sharp edges and works very well . Every bike shop has old chains they throw away every day so they should be readily available.. My $2.00 yard sale stove is running fine!

Wow! Think I might try that with gas tank on Coleman lantern. Thanks for your testimony Tim Pope.

Thanks for the vid. Just fired up an old 425E for the first time in over 15 years. A little work on the leather and it's burning off what is probably 20 year old fuel right now. Next I'll burn through a tank of fresh fuel and see how it looks. Next weekend I'm gonna tear it all down and repaint it. Again, thanks for the pointers!

I heard BBs will work as well for cleaning inside the tank

Do you have suggestions on how to store the stove to avoid the tank interior rusting? Would it be better to store it full of fuel, empty, or somewhere in between? Or does it not matter?

Think I'm going to try cleaning rust out of 228 J lantern tank. Thanks for showing the method using gas, chain and carb cleaner. Has anyone had any luck using HEET gas treatment?

Whoops, I finally got the pump out, and oiled the little black rubber gasket, it was ok, now I can't seem to get it back in. SO bloody frustrating. IF ANYONE READS THING< PLEASE SEND ME A MSSG. I can't pump cap to fit back into its place. May not be fitting into that rod think inside the tube. Sorry, but I don't know all the lingo that goes with these parts. I've been at this for hours and I smell like gas and oil. I'm beat. PLEASE can somone please help.

I really need help with my fuel canister. I get zero pressure or resistance when pumping. What should I do?

Put a couple drops of oil in the hole and keep pumping......the oil will swell the leather piston and seal it.

Rick Shred First off, thank you so much for the reply. I was able to fix the issue about a week ago. I took the pump out and flex'd the the leather cup backwards which widened it and put it back in. I instantly got good pressure and it has been working since!

HELP! I could not get that bloody pump out. If I used the end of a screw driver to pry it off, it was afraid if I kept prying, I'd mess up the metal entirely Try as I might, while being careful, I was unable to get it off. Women's weak hands, I suppose. I also could not get it to pump air into the tank.. Now what? 😖
