All the review videos I’ve seen so far are top quality. Subbed, keep it up man!
Thanks so much for the support! Appreciate you
Yep. I’m sold. Thank you so much for these videos. You deserve so much more attention.
Thanks for your support! You can always share with someone that could use the info!
One of the best gym equipment reviews I’ve ever seen
Thanks for the feedback! I’m glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for the review. Its the only on on this piece I have ever seen.
Awesome! Glad I could help the home gym community!
You killed it bro great review 😊
Thank you for your support! Glad you liked it!
Awesome Review! Stuck between getting this or the prodigy rack. What would you recommend? Also can you do lat pull downs with this?
If you’re beginning you can use it as a lay pull-down machine. Once you’re strong enough to lift your own weight there is no good way to hold yourself down. I have a review on the Prodigy HLP rack, check it out! They each have their own application so if you don’t have anything I’d say get the HLP
Great review Pré!
Thanks you! Glad you enjoyed it
All the questions been answered 👌🏼
Great review J ! Are there band pegs on the functional trainer ? Or any way to DYI band work ?
There is a cross bar between the stacks that a band could be connected to. You could also attach to the top for reverse bands. There are no band pegs though.
Thanks for the great review! I also have the Prime HLP and thinking of adding the FT. Do you know what the cable travel is on this FT? I can’t find the info anywhere. Thank you!
You’re welcome. I’m glad I could help. It’s a 2:1 ratio and is just as smooth as the HLP. Use the code “jaycruz3” for a discount when purchasing the FT!
Excellent video. Subbed.
Thank you. Appraise the support so much!
Amazing video and extremely valuable. There is very little user video about this functional trainer out there going into such detail. I'm looking to order this functional trainer. This machine looks fairly solid, the only parts I can see wearing out are the pulleys and cables.
The dealer I'm working with was able to give me the price of replacement cables but not a list price for replacement pulleys. Claimed their contact at Prime said they've never had to replace a single one worldwide for that model. Can you tell me if the pulleys are nylon? They don't look to be aluminum. Surely they can wear out over the years.
Thanks. Appreciate the content and you have a killer setup.
Thank you for watching and I’m glad I can help. The pulleys are nylon but I don’t see them wearing out very quickly at all. The cables roll on the pulley more than it would rub or create sliding on it. It would take a good while to wear to the point where it will need to be replaced
@@jaycruz.threefold Thanks for your feedback, really appreciate it. I should probably get my order in soon, lead time is long and waiting will be hard.
Awesome review.
Thank you!
Great video!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it
There’s a video of Samuel breaking the prime fitness machine
Great Video! What camera setup are you using?
It's in the description
I use a lot of different set ups. In this video I’m using the Sony A7S III and the Sony GM 16-35mm f2.8. It’s also in the description
Hey jcruz, have you tried the freemotion genesis g626 functional trainer? Just wondering what your thoughts are on how it compares to the prime. I’ve heard from some that the freemotion is the premier functional trainer on the market with the prime one being the next best. What are your thoughts?
The free motion does feel a touch smoother but I feel that’s the only advantage. The price point of the Prime just makes more sense for most people. It also has a rack for holding attachments. The Prime FT also has much more weight at 130lbs max handle weight against the Free Motions 80lbs max. Their stacks are almost the same weight at Prime 265lbs and FM at 240lbs, the difference in ratios is why Prime (2:1) has more weight to use and is also why FM (3:1) feels smoother. The higher the ratio, the smoother and more cable travel you will get out of a machine. That being said, Prime overall is better but the FM feels better with less weight and looks a little more sleek.
Interesting, thank you for your take on things. Believe it or not the freemotion genesis g626 is actually less expensive than the prime ft. It says 8,999 on the site but when you reach out and get an actual quote after shipping and taxes it’s like 600/700 less than the prime ft at just under 6k. The prime ft is like 6500 after shipping and taxes. Hmm. With that knowledge of pricing would you still go with the prime? Tough call here.
@@centralparkpiper Yes, I would still go with the Prime. I need the full 130lbs and the smaller incremental increases on the Prime are just too convenient. For people that would never go past 80lbs the FM is a great option if it is cheaper.
Thanks for your input on this. Definitely considering this one. I think the form factor/footprint, smoother feel, friendlier more customer service oriented staff, being slightly more premium, and it being slightly cheaper are my considerations for getting the free motion. The heavier weight stack and ease in taking it apart are my considerations for the prime. Tough decision here but your input is hugely appreciated, thank you man.
I tell you man, I’m having a really hard time with this decision. Big purchase. I wonder what the resell value is on prime vs freemotion. Not that I want to but if I needed to I wonder which would command more in the secondary market. Is it only the weight stack 2:1 higher weight per stack that makes you prefer the prime?
Great video and very informative. I'm think about getting this for my home gym. I was wondering if this is compatible or can you attach bands to this using the Prodigy Band Pegs?
There are no holes to use band pegs but I just looked to see if there was a solution. You can still easily loop a band around the center support and the 5lb increment bar. I tried and it works just fine.
@@jaycruz.threefold Awesome! Thank you, that is good to know.
Tib bar guy makes a bench with rollers don’t know if it’s commercial quality though.
Hey great review! Would you mind trying to do horizontal flies lying on the bench? I am shopping for a functional trainer like this, and just demoed nautilus version of freemotion. When in the down position the arms are too far back to get a mid chest angle (hits lower chest from the downward angle) and if i bring them forward for a perpendicular angle, they are too close for a full stretch. This prime model framed on an angle like a traditional functional trainer may allow for full ROM at a horizontal angle, when arms full lowered?
Thank you! I’m glad I could help some.
I’m not clear on what you’re asking for specifically but I will say I have never had an issue where I couldn’t get the correct positioning. The arms have enough positions to accommodate any exercise and if something seems “not quite right” I just move forward or backward in front of the machine.
Edit: to accomplish your ask, I just put the bench upright and move it forward. You could probably do it on any functional trainer. Since it’s on a cable and not free weight the position of our body (vertical or horizontal) doesn’t have an effect on the way our muscles feel the tension. We just need to keep the same base angle in relation to the direction of the tension.
@jaycruz.threefold appreciate the response! So the short answer is no? Can't do a horizontal cable bench fly? Makes a big difference to me I use an ability mat to arch like the arsenal bench and get way better pec stretch than I ever have sitting or standing. I have a 122" cable crossover now that I use, was hoping the prime would replace it, but it wouldn't completely I guess.
Great review! Do you have the measurement of the weight stack? I’m working with a lowered basement and I’m hoping that I can for it without having it extend all the way up.
The prime website has a schematic with those measurements
I assume I could use a gym pin for some exercises ? Thanks
You could probably still use it if you need more weight than the system provides but most exercises done on a functional trainer don’t need more than it has. But yes, a gym pin would still work on this machine
This is like a YMCA. An actual basketball court. Nowadays gyms are just smith machines and treadmills.
How does this functional trainer compare to life fitness functional trainer
I don’t think they are really that close. I’d say the next closest machine would be the free motion fictional trainer. Articulating arms make a lot more variety in cable angles and the incremental weight built in is hard to beat
Life fitness is smoother isn’t it and it’s built more strong ? But it has a 4.1 ratio
@@thomaspham-qf4ry the Prime FT is super smooth and yes the Life Fitness is really smooth as well (probably more) but you’re also lifting far less cause of the ratio. Higher ratios inherently feel smoother
did i miss where you stated the pulley ratio? I'm guessing 2:1?
Yes it is a 2:1 ratio
I know it might not still be reflective of current environment, but what kind of lead time did you experience from order date to delivery?
@@Azviman03 it’s been awhile but I wanna say it was 36 weeks. I ordered in June 2022. It’s definitely changed a lot since then
@@jaycruz.threefold that's a crazy a lead time.
@@Azviman03 it was totally worth the wait, could be less now. Their HLP rack was pretty short. I think it was 12 weeks. Last I saw it went down to 8
Hi. The machine arrives always completely assembled?
As far as I understand, yes.
What is the pull ratio of this machine? I couldnt find it on the website; does 260 pounds feel like 260 pounds?
The ratio is 2:1.
@@jaycruz.threefold thank you
Do you think the free motion G624 or the prime fitness functional trainer is better?
The free motion costs a lot more, (around $2000+) it has less weight per stack as well, with only 80lbs feel weight per stack vs 132.5lbs on the Prime. The Prime FT has more arm positions and also has its own storage. The advantage of the G624 is that it looks a little more sleek and has a slightly smaller foot print. Because of the 3:1 weight ratio the free motion will also naturally feel smoother to use. Depending on your budget and what you’re looking for those are the major differences. I believe Primes machine is also a little easier to acquire
@@jaycruz.threefold thank you so much ☺️
@@jaycruz.threefold "easier to acquire"? Current 1 year lead time. Great video, btw. Just wish I could buy one 🙂
@@captainatkins27 yeah I suppose the time changes based on supply chain and demand. Lead time has changed a few times since this video. Glad you liked the vid, thank you!
How difficult would it be to disassemble the weight stack to move it?
I have no idea. I looked at it and one side is easy to remove but I can’t tell how to remove the other side. Has a different type of securing meathod
@@jaycruz.threefold I can’t find an instruction or assembly manual online anywhere either.
how do you like the KAZ handles?
I love them. Most people with bigger hands have enjoyed using them in my gym. Anyone with smaller hands have mentioned they they are too big to use.
Is this cheaper than the free motion, wonder why you didn’t go with it?
Prime has lost so many sales simply because they won’t offer a different color besides that atrocious lime green. I literally bought free motion because of this
If you’ve checked out the Alphalete/Alphaland gym, they have all custom colors. The adjustments are still like green but it isn’t that noticeable.
Bigger issue imo is that their wait times for the vast majority of their machines are 8months+ very regularly. I'd be willing to cut and replace all the green plastic sheathes myself, but taking a 50% down-payment/interest-free loan for 8+mo is crazy.
@@teambdugz yes waiting was a really hard part of the whole process
Really appreciate your attention to detail in everything from the use of it to getting it downstairs, even though you didn’t have to do it yourself. Very well thought out. Also I enjoy the tone you speak at, especially compared to other UA-camrs like Greg Doucette 😂
Yes that lime/puke green is a hard pass.
