The vines represent tears. Cutting them off symbolises hiding the tears, hiding the emotion. Let the tears fall, don't be afraid to show emotion. There is beauty in that, as represented by the mound of flower petals.
The song centres around people hiding or holding back their emotions because of the stigma surrounding being open, and fearing coming across as being weak. It talks about how letting our emotions out into the world proves that we are human and forms a part of what makes us human (being able to feel feelings and have emotions) and how sometimes letting them out can make you feel so much better afterwards. "It’s quite a happy song… it’s been a while since I’ve had a joyful song so it feels very nice. It was inspired by something quite sad as I looked at the suicide rates on this planet and apparently 73% of them were men and then I thought, why is that the case? Then I realized, obviously, it must be because of the feeling that you can’t talk about your emotions and show that you’re in pain because pain is often associated with weakness but you know, here in my world it’s not, so the song is inspired by something quite sad but it is also happy because crying can be such a positive experience, especially afterwards when you actually feel a bit lighter. It’s about that feeling to let off some steam as they say here in England." - AURORA
Just my interpretation but by letting yourself cry with your emotions is the only way you can grow (the vines). Once that has occurred you can let go of those emotions and move on. I love the line ‘do you miss the sadness when it’s gone?’ When you bottle it up it builds inside but if you let go and cry like a river it flows away. After a good cry over things it cleanses you and have you ever noticed that you rarely think back on it the same way, you feel better & don’t really miss how you felt before. I’ve heard this song a few times but not really listened- what an amazingly beautiful sentiment and truth.
I think the vines represent tears, and more broadly: emotions in general. And the scissors represent the inhibition of emotions, like suppression. The plants symbolize growth and when you suppress your emotions you're not allowing yourself to grow. The lyrics "I don't miss the sadness when it's gone. And the feeling of it makes me smile" I think she means after we've all had a good cry, we feel so much better and we've grown from that.
It is natural to be vulnerable and to feel things. Her cutting the plants growing from her eyes symbolize how she resists her own emotions, cuts down herself for listening to her intuition.
That is a good analogy for our connectedness to nature! We are quite severed from our roots as it is, and our ability to allow ourselves to feel is what enables us to nurture the Earth.
She said she wrote this when she found out how high the suicide rates were for men. the lyrics "you can cry. drinking your eyes" stands out to me the most. She's basically saying you should cry, but not only just cry; but come to terms with your sadness. To embrace it all and let them nurture and heal you. The vines represent the tears: She's cutting them to suppress her emotions and as she starts crying they grow. showing that letting your emotions out makes you grow! Please check her out live! I recommend All Is Soft Inside live @ KEXP
there are 2 versions; but here's the link to the one i'm talking about : ua-cam.com/video/IS2iVcGz_Ok/v-deo.html its a song 'for the emotional people' as she says in the beginning lol
OMG......I watch every Aurora reaction, and I listen her music all through the day, and I mean every day since early 2017.....never get tired.. there's always something that feels new and renewed. I think that weed like coming out of her is pain, the hurt inside, and she keeps cutting them off, she doesnt want to show she's in pain... and if you don't let it out it will eat you inside out,,have to let go, it's great to be able to cry...we're lucky....our emotional education is completely fucked up, we're taught to hide feelings and never cry, specially men....... .never show your weakness...a complete lie so there you are...just let the river run wild...that is healthiy, no t being weak..so ..this lady is so wise......... the best part of her message is that it reaches us personally and intimately to each and every pne of us it makes us think ....man tbis lady is so wise Peace
@@hakanandersson1276 Hlola Hakan.....i was wondering wher my friend was......good to know you're with us warrriors....did you see Aurora's cover of Thank You......she absolutely blew my mind, i've been a long time Alanis fan, I've seen her live like five times,,,and now Aurora nailed it again, our Queen is so so good!!! all the best Sir Hakan
Nice reaction. To me the vines seems like a metafor for emotions/tears and the sissors being holding them inn/back (cutting them away, not alowing them to show)
I am half way done but I just wanted to say is that from what I heard she made this song when she found out that suicide is common more among men and she is saying that it's okay to cry. The vines are her tears her emotions and when she cuts them it's her suppressing them and not showing them but then at the end she just lets them out which is why she grows beautiful flowers at the end
the vines are her tears, and the pedals are representing that letting your emotions go are a beautiful thing. That said, there is no real wrong way of interpreting her music. Paraphrasing her own words, "I may have had something specific in mind while writing the song, but the beauty of music is that as long as there are people who interpret new meaning from it, music is immortal": (it might be exactly what she said, but its so long since i heard her say it i don't want to quote it.)
You are correct about your comment. The vines coming out of her eyes is a parallel to treating the Earth like a garbage can ( Earth pains) which needs to be in balance and the Earth doesn't like the pollution and the garbage Etc. She's an advocate to climate change and she loves the woods where she grew up in Norway and then when she goes to the cities and sees the difference she feels for the Earth that supports us. It connects with the song the seed. peace out brother God bless you. From number one Rush fan. R. I.P Neil Peart
I was just about this search for more reactions to Aurora, then I got the notification that you were reacting to this song. :) Have you reacted to the "Murder Song (4, 3, 2, 1)"? I found it to be beautiful, but eerie and disturbing. It was really well done.
First of all: All Aurora's songs have several layers and there are no "correct" or "wrong" interpretations. Second I fully support "Gard" in his/her comments but I want to add about the end: To me it is obvious the end represents a return to the womb. Of Mother Nature or to the physical mother . Your reaction is open and honest. Thank you!
The end scene can also be descriptive of dying a natural death with a big heart after living a fruitful and rich life. The running through the fields where she blossoms represent her living a good life in fast forward. In contrast to if limit your emotions (with the scissors), feeling heartless and die by suicide.
More Norse (Norwegian) Artists for you: Aurora Aksnes, Einar Selvik (Wardruna), Angelina Jordan, Sigrid Solbakk, Anne Nørdsti, Astrid Smeplass, are just some of them.

Yes correct, and she wrote after she found out that 79% of all suicicides are comidded by men.. You can cry

Don’t drown in your ocean of emotions, let your tears flow out as a river!
The vines are tears or emotion... when we cut them off we miss the beauty of flowers blooming. 🌹💖
