Unless the restraint is severely worn out, damaged, improperly installed, or totally uninspected for an incredibly long time, you usually have to work pretty hard to get ejected from a ride in that way. It would seem pretty clear to me that something rather extraordinary took place causing this ejection.
Back in 14 I went to the Virginia state fair and when riding their fireball (Larson super loop) i swear my restraints were essentially unlocked during the entire cycle. If it weren't for the safety belt on the restraints I definitely would've fallen out.
Sometimes conditions and physics end up in just the right spot to cause a freak accident. Also, some rides are super easy to get out of. Like, one of my favorite flat rides at our traveling fair. The bar opens with a pull switch thats completely accessible by the rider. People usually unlock their own restraint when the ride is over on it (or were last time I was there. Its been awhile. I gotta ride in the evening and someone has to go with me so they can hold onto my service dog while I ride.)
I actually had a friend get banned from riding Zero Gravity again cuz she took her restraint off while the ride was in motion and switched seats. Much to my horror. Glad the ride operator clocked it.
Seabreeze is my home park and I’ve ridden their Maurer spinner whirlwind hundreds of times. I know from experience that these Maurer spinners can slip a ratchet as it’s happened to me a couple times. I could see how this guy could have had the restraint in one of the higher positions and then it slipped a ratchet and he wasn’t prepared for the forces of the ride with an insane amount of room.
I recently rode a Maurer spinner and it had thick foam slip-on handbars for kids, which was great because my niece felt unsafe. But for me and my father, we experienced the same thing. My niece was having the time of her life, meanwhile we were grabbing the bar because we felt so unsafe. Older Maurer's can be TERRIFYING if not properly maintained
The first one...I suppose if a lapbar randomly released, there would be some sign of that forensically? It does bring to mind a story my Mom told me about a ride on the Bluestreak at Cedar Point she had in the seventies, though. The riders ahead got out, no issue, and she and her friends got in, no issue. Bar was checked, all seemed well.... But partway through the ride, the lap bar just released. It was only her friends gripping her and her gripping the handrail that prevented something similar most likely.....that and though the streak is a lot of hills, it's relatively calm compared to more modern coasters. Anyway, they got out and told the attendants immediately, and the car later had a bag over the seat she said, but the sheer randomness and suddenness does make me wonder about similar situations but without others able to grab and hold the person. Another thought I had was the bad habit of which I confess my guilt when I was a child - tensing my thighs and pressing up a bit so as to resist the lap bar when attendants pushed it down, both for my own comfort and for better airtime.....and then lifting my hands up during the ride..... If I had been twiggier and the ride lacked a secondary restraint, well.... It was probably still safe, but.... just not a good idea.. Anyway, it's sad and horrific no matter the situation. I do hope they can find some solution if only to ensure the safety on other rides
same ride, the blue streak at cedar point, in like 2008 or 2009, I had my lap bar release. me and another girl from my school had to hold it down because it released while we were on one of the many hills. we were there for a marching band group trip and me and her were the two shortest and lightest girls in our group. I never went on it again despite having gone back many times because of that day. I do not know if it came all the way undone, or just to the highest locked position, but we were holding it down like our lives depended on it. I now avoid all rides that only have lap bar restraints for the most part. The footage used in the video was of Steel Dragon at Waldameer in Erie, PA and it does sound extremely similar to the ride in question. If the restraints are the same on the two rides, I am not sure how this happened because they always felt very secure. I grew up in erie and had even ridden that ride the first year it was open when I was 11 with my grandpa. my best non-expert guess would be either she didnt have it pushed firmly enough against her legs or she may have had very squishy legs and maybe sweaty allowing her to slip out somehow.
Thanks for this video! Little nitpick that has been triggering me on your channel: On many videos, you often put images that goes from left to right such as here at 0:44. It's usually fine.. UNLESS when the image goes by too quickly such as here at 0:48 with the waterslide image. It stops for 0.0000001 second so you think you'll be able to look at it (or even process it) but no it's already gone. So please let any image to stop for at least 0.5s (which is already pretty quick), like the previous images of the coaster and the flat. Thanks!
@@keirstenduren7188 Yeah but it's annoying to pause the video especially when you are watching in a comfortable position and you'd just wanted an extra second or so. And it interrupts the flow.
Dixie landin was one of my childhood parks and even before the accident my mother always got scared of us going on rhose rides. She said it always looked like they were held by toothpicks.
Either those first two riders wore baggy clothing but was slimmer than assumed and such was able to slip out or somehow tried and succeeded in loosening them and got out that way... So weird...
I love seeing the Birch Bay Waterslides accident come up, I grew up in the area and used to love going to that park. Actually just got an ad for their season pass... I don't think I'll be purchasing one this year.
It's accident report is probably still on-going, but don't forget what happened with AtmosFEAR at Oaks Park, multipul parties inspected it and found nothing wrong.
UA-cam in it's infinite wisdom mistranslated the title of this video into the German equivalent of "3 unsolved Driving Accidents" You should probably disable auto translation on your channel to prevent future mishaps like this.
One time i rode a slizzler at my local carnival and the lap bar opened i didn't fall out their was a normal seat belt i just held on to the bar real tight till the ride stopped that was probably the craziest ride i have gotten
On all 3 accident riders were ejected without explanation?! Clearly they were all NPCs and lagged during their ride which made them clip through ride vehicles/restraints/tracks that ended in ejection. Duh
I was at Dixie Landing the day before the accident occured. There was one particular train/car on the Xtreme that the rides ops were having to go under the ride to unlock the restraints when unloading... My gf and I refused to ride in that car. Im not 100% sure thats what caused the accident. But I'm willing to put money on that it had something to do with it.
So tough for someone to die in an accident and they cant even figure out why :( I wonder if the first rider somehow freed themself from the restraints
Something like that happened on a converted standup in the 90s (looper to standup) where someone managed to free themselves from the restraint.

Always appreciate the facts, info and lack of sensationalism in your reports.

Probably just between ratchets, but no way to know at this point.

The idea is that the few people who actually want to look at the details can pause the video
Thanks for the feedback

The kid in the last slide was probably sitting in the back
It was confirmed the riders were in the correct position at the start of the ride.

Jfc on the water slide one, don't parents know to hold onto their spawn on the slide? So because of their negligence the park got in trouble
