Newt said the Swooping Evil venom erases bad memories but Jacob didn't have any bad memories of magic so eventually his memories would resurface and I love that.
I don’t think you should of said this, given that they will most likely watch the next one
I know these films weren’t recieved the best, but I did really enjoy this first film a lot.
Yeah, I don’t even remember my thoughts on other two movies, but I really enjoyed this one
the first is good, the other 2 ehhhhhhhhh
This one was an instant classic. It captured the magic of the original series SO GOOD. The other two…… ehh, not the wooorstt but. I wanted to see newt and more creatures lmfao?????????!!!
It's the good one compared to the other two
I'd never even seen Harry Potter and had no clue the films were related. I watched this first one and thought it was great, it's just a really solid film that stands on its own.
Fun fact just because of the Hufflepuff disrespect: Newt was indeed a Hufflepuff. 💛
Yeah but spicy no no spells are fun. Hufflepuff’s don’t do that
Hufflepuffs represent!
This is a comment made by a Gryffindor, btw.
@@mimic1984sticking up for the little guy is a gryffindor/hufflepuff thing to do 🙄
@@metalhead522 As a Ravenclaw I think it's a good thing to educate everybody about famous house alumni. Not specific to Huff or Gryff.
As someone on the autism spectrum, I love the decision to make Newt a character on the spectrum as well. They never actually say it, but if you know what to look for you can see it in his mannerisms
Fun Fact!
In HP and the prison of azkaban, you can see Newts name on the marauders map, just after Harry first receives it from the twins.
He would be a ghost at that point right? I wish we got to see how that happened.
@@theunfamousone2818 he's younger than Dumbledore
@theunfamousone2818 i think he was probably there about Buckbeak's case
@@theunfamousone2818 I think it is a movie thing and not in the books but not sure
Since I saw this movie I’ve personally believed that Harry could very well have become an Obscurial. His saving grace was the key ingredient. “A young witch or wizard suppressing their magic.” You have to be _aware_ that you have magic and be making a conscious effort in suppressing it. Harry was not _aware_ he had magic, as the Dursleys had drilled into him at young age, _it did not exist._ He wasn’t suppressing his magic at all, the first book even makes it clear that he was performing accidental magic almost his whole life, as young witches and wizards are prone to do. But how differently might his story have played out if he _had_ been aware of his magic?
Just so you guys know that the book that Newt is currently writing is the book that Hagrid and the Magical beasts class uses to teach students and it's called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and you can actually buy a copy of that book.
Yep! I remember when I had a poster with the stuff 1st years needed to buy and I genuinely gasped when I realized lmaooo
Hagrid uses the Monster Book of Monsters
@@katelynannis858i think it's year 4 where hagris uses fantastic beasts
Hagrid* idk why it autocorrects to hagris for me
Newp different book
The context is, Dumbledore know he can’t beat the elder wand with spells, so he sets up a Pokémon master to do the job
Once again Dumbledore manipulating mfers to solve problems. 😂😂
@@supersizesenpai and his manipulation always works 😭
@@Nomadxcvii Damn sure does. lol
Dumbledore so would be good friends with Princess Celestia from MLP - they both would just watch their apprentices do all the dirty hard work.....
Dumbledore: "Harry what do you need to do"
Harry: "I'll be down bellow. Making no noise and pretending I don't exist"
Dumbledore: "That's my little brainwashed boy, go on"
49:50 the first indicator of how powerful “Graves” is, it’s the fact that we see him do wandless magic several times, which speaks of incredible talent, and power. Those are a few of the clues to his true identity, also his particular brand of manipulation with Credence, and his beliefs is the last giveaway. I love Farrell in this film. He is amazing.
Fun fact: Luna Lovegood married Newt Scamander's grandson, Rolf Scamander. 💙 💜
Poor Neville.
@@infinitygauntlet101 Why? Neville married hannah
If Rolf is anything like Newt, they couldn't be more made for each other lmao
@@infinitygauntlet101 Neville married Hufflepuff Hannah Abbott.
Neville died a broken man. His body was found on the streets reeking of Buttermere with 39 balloons of heroin shoved up his ass. It was 40 but I assume you can guess how he died. SMH 😂😂😂
The zoom in on Eric’s face after bringing up Johnny depp is perfection XD like you can see him figuring out the best thing to say to not spoil the reveal
Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is really just Hogwarts' American version in so many ways. For example... Just like Hogwarts, it has four founders and four houses (Horned Serpent, Thunderbird, Wampus and Pukwudgie). But here's some twists... One of the founders, Isolt Saywer, is a descendant of Salazar Slytherin. She is a British witch that always wanted to go to Hogwarts but never got the chance, so she modeled Ilvermorny after it. Her husband and co-founder, James Steward, is actually a Muggle (the only Muggle to ever be a founder of a wizarding school). The other two founders were also the very first students as well, being them two orphaned boys Isolt and James took in. The houses of Ilvermorny were named after each of the founder's favorite beasts and they embody mind (Horned Serpent), body (Wampus), soul (Thunderbird) and heart (Pukwudgie).
And one of Ilvermony's founders is a descendant of Salazar Slytherin
@@peter-josephlamusitele6296 Yeah... I said that in my comment. But... to add to that statement... Isolt Saywer and James Steward had twin daughters, with one being a witch and the other being a squib. While the witch daughter became a teacher and decided to not have children to not continue Salazar's legacy, the squib daughter joined the No-Maj world and had a family. So... Salazar Slytherin still has descendants... but they are non-magical... Ironic, right?
@@rafaelmatos5851 yeah well his line would end with Voldemort but I wonder what happened to Ominis
@ If Isolt Saywer's squib daughter had children, then it's possible that one day a new wizard will appear in the Slytherin bloodline.
Something I just realized is how you are all from completely different parts of the country but still ended up in Texas and get along like that. Love that, lol.
they moved to texas
if you watch their older videos they used to all record from their home states
@@theirishviking9278uh. Yeah. I said that lol
Why wouldn't they get along?? What?
I just realized that as far as magical creatures go, Jacob has seen more than even most wizards have
America and Europe used to differ a lot back then. European wizards were always free to carry wands and use magic as long they didn't expose the wizarding world to Muggles (or at least erased their memories), as well engage in friendships and relationships with them. Meanwhile, MACUSA had a very tight control over the use of magic, with wizards and witches being required to have wand permits and being forbidden of being friends or marry No-Majs. The reason for that is rooted quite deep, as American wizards have suffered much more than European wizards when it came to persecution from Muggles. While European wizards always saw Muggle persecution more as an annoyance, as they could always use magic to avoid capture, hide their presence or modify memories, American wizards were actually killed during the Salem Witch Trials, as there were wizards between those that hunted them. After American wizards were finally able to reorganize themselves and regain control over the situation, the wizards that were hunting other wizards went into hidding, marrying Muggles and making sure any child resulted in those unions would be Muggles. Their descendants would developed a deep hatred towards magic and carry out their ancestors' vengence. In fact, Credence's adoptive mother is one of those descendant.
Damn so the wizards canonically have gun control?? That's funny af
@@aadil1998 The permit was so American authorities could track magic activity easily. I mean... wizards don't need wands to practice magic. Young children are examples of that. However, wands allow wizards to focus their spells, giving more control and power. Wands is an European invention that became popular throughout the world, including America. In fact, African wizards don't normally use wands.
Ok ok, so we can't just casually gloss over bri and her underminor joke. It was gold
I've been crying laughing at "bro is roofie'ing the storm, Bill Cosby wishes" for the past 5 minutes 🤣
In one of Harry potter movies, i don't remember wich one, u can se a list of materials and books they need to buy to study in Hogwarts, and u can see the Fantastic beasts and where to find them listed as one of the books to buy
If we are talking Salem witch trials, then one of the most interesting cases among the accussed was Giles Corey, and English-born farmer and the owner of the biggest balls in that town. When he was being put to the questions they put him between two boards and kept on piling rocks on him to make him confess. Every time they asked all he would say is "More weight." Until he was crushed to death.
just how big were his balls?
The American Wizarding community had Rappaport’s Law which created total segregation between the wizarding and No-Maj communities because a witch fell in love with a No-Maj and he caused the worst breach of the International Statute of Secrecy in history. The Law was repealed in 1965 and witches and wizards in America can now befriend and marry No-Majs.
Ooh where can i read about this? I'm interested in what the breach actually was.
5:02 technically it is a niffler it takes money or likes shiny things hagrid had the kids in book 4 get to use them to find gold hagrid buired. Ron does ask if he could have it as a pet but hagrid tells them they are very destructive and have been known to destroy homes in case you were interested
FYI the goblin in the bar was modeled after, and voiced by, Ron Perlman.
I don't care what anyone says The Fantastic Beast movies are great. And I love Newt, he makes me proud being fellow Hufflepuff. And yes he is a Hufflepuff and he's awesome, you guys can't deny.
Yea he’s one of the good ones
@sortastupid so was Cedric and Tonks.
First one was good and didn’t really mess with any lore, then the next one absolutely messes things up like having McGonnagall somehow be a teacher when she wasn’t even born yet.
@@j9096-g8k okay?
Really liked the first one. Kowalski reacting to magic is the best. I think if they stuck to making Indiana Jones with wizards and letting Newt actually figure out things for his book instead of him already knowing everthing, it would have been so fun. Instead of what they did with 2 and 3 trying to do three things in one.
now that you've finished all the Harry Potter movies, i'd recommend watching the "20th anniversary Return to hogwarts"
it's basically the actors talking about working on the movies, how they even got to play in them in the first place, and paying homage to those who aren't among them anymore, it's pretty nice (no idea where to actually see it though, i think i've only seen reactions on youtube)
Fun fact: Harry actually purchased “fantastic beasts and where to find them” (newt’s book) for his school supplies back during his first year at hogwarts.
I feel like so many reactors miss that the charm Graves gave to Credence was the Deathly Hallows symbol, which is the sigil Grindelwald was using at the time. Although I can't recall if the HP movies ever explained that?
They explained it in Part One of the Deathly Hallows
Newt is very heavily autism coded and I really feel Eddie did a great job at portraying it, atleast from my experience with autism. His little quirks, hyperfixation on animals, a-social tendencies, the lot. He plays them all so well and naturally, and they all just feel like HIM as opposed to a detriment or some cheesy "superpower". Such a great actor, just sadly cast in a lot of the wrong roles
You guys will like this
For my sister's birthday I bought her some jewellery, it came in little bag things. When she opened them they were empty, of course I'm giving it all the surprised pikachu face!
Last present was a niffler teddy and he has a pouch, where I put all the jewellery!
Awwwww
Absolutely amazing gifting, rock on sibling
OMG YES FINALLY, I can't wait for you to see young Dumbledore
Illvermorny, the american school mentioned, was founded by a descendant of Slytherin
47:40 Erics face is priceless 😅
I bet thats how i look trying not to spoil stuff for my mom or brother.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES EVER!!! Newt is my favorite character in the whole Harry Potter universe :]
Now you need to find out your Ilvermony houses.
I am Thunderbird.
Btw, There is a trailer for the Movie Edit "Harry Potter with Guns". I am sure the entire movie can be found *hinthint*, but the trailer itself is already hilarious
"I just wish he had amnesia "
Well well well
Theres a lot of context(some fact and some implied) from the book versions of Harry Potter about Dumbledore, Grindlewald, and the Obscurus. Dumbledores little sister was implied to be an Obscurus, and during a fight between Dumbledore, his brother, and Grindlewald Ariana(the sister) lost control of her obscurus which is how Grindlewald learned how powerful they were.
Funnily enough, the Salem Trials started because Abigail Williams wouldn't accept John Proctor's rejections and she instead decided to get rid of people by accusing them of witchcraft. 🤣
That wasn't how it started. You're thinking of a movie, which changed the ages of Abigail and John
@@King4ssassin Yeah, they mucked that bit up badly. Which is a shame because a lot of the other elements were pretty spot on. The weird clichishness among the accusers.
That's not true. The Crucible isn't an accurate source for the Salem Witch trials. Abigail was aged up significantly.
not sure if anyone said anything about the occamy eggshells, but they are are pure silver. haha. so he got more than enough for the collateral
They know it’s silver That’s what they rang the gong for. Someone had guessed they’d give him money from the beasts.
Fun Fact: Luna Lovegood didn`t marry Nevil Longbottom but Newt`s grandson!
An obscurus is the inverse of a patronus. The former being an attack magic manifested through negative emotion and the latter a defensive magic manifested through positive emotion
Thats wrong an obscurus is a magical child that suppressed their magic so long it just explodes out of them and they become an obscurus
@@cogtembio2094 the person harboring an obscurus is called an obscurial.
An Obscurus is actually more like a parasite. It's a dark magical force that grows inside of a person that suppresses their magic as a child. It's not controllable and can burst out at any moment. It's not a spell at all, it's it's own entity that lives inside of a host called the Obscurial.
Exactly!! Great parallel. I think this would've been paid off by the 5th film.
“Weren’t you asking for ‘Harry Potter’ with guns?” “Yeah, I want a wizard with a gun as a backup.”
Might I then recommend ‘Skulduggery Pleasant’?
Or the entirety of the Dresden files.
I love you guys so much, never change ❤
so in this movie, here are some of the animals shown in the movie but i dont think i saw all of the appearances (no particular order):
The giant dung beetle (very noticeable, lol)
Nifflers
Bowtruckles
Graphorns (the one with the tentacles on its face)
Billywig (that flying bug during one of the close-up scenes when all the animals started escaping?)
Occamies
Diricawls (the teleporting birds) were actually called Dodo birds by non-magic folk according to the Fantastic Beasts mini guidebook. So in the HP universe, the dodo bird isnt extinct. I think also in the book, it mentioned how stupid non-magic people were in thinking they caused the extinction of the diricawl when really, those birds were able to avoid non-magic people due to their teleportation abilities.
Erumpet (the rhino thing who was in heat)
Murtlap (the rat-looking thing that bit Kowalski in the beginning of the movie), fun fact, its tentacles have healing/soothing properties when strained and pickled also known as Murtlap Essence.
Nundu: The lion hybrid animal
the mooncalves
I think i saw an augurey in the animals scene as well
The fwooper, the bird that Brie mentioned during the animals scene
The colorful squid creature is called a marmite, i believe as confirmed by the VFX studio that worked on the movie but i cant remember if its an original creature made just for the movie or if it was mentioned in the fantastic beasts guidebook.
I think there were other creatures in the background but I can't remember
they dont mention it in the movies, but there is something called the mist in the harry potter world. It bends muggles perception of magic to reasonable explanations
Oh yeah, Frank creates weather. Dude's a Thunderbird. Thunderbirds are creatures from Native American mythology that speak of giant eagles that create storms when they flap their wings.
While there's a fair amount of good things in the next two films, this one is still the best of the FB series.
I love the characterisation of Newt Scamander.
There's a great video out there called: The Fantastic Masculinity of Newt Scamander, which sums up how he's such a great protagonist for the story.
I like how when he was remembering her face at the very end he reached up and touched his bite mark
also you asked why not just avada kedavra in the books dumbledore mentions irreparable damage to the soul (reparable only through remorse) when using dark magic to take a life. these institutions probably evade soul damage by giving the recipient their happiest memory
This particular example isn’t exactly correct, you’re explaining a horcrux - how to make and how to repair after one is made. The killing curse can be used without “physical” damage to the soul if that makes sense 🤣
@ oh haha thanks for replying:) i do believe though that even the act of killing damages the soul, because in the deathly hallows when dumbledore speaks of sparing dracos soul severus asks him “but what about my soul?” there was no discussion here about a horcrux, simply of killing
When I first heard of this releasing, I was hoping for an Attenborough-style fake nature documentary about the various Fantastic Beasts he was researching - basically the suitcase scene for the entire runtime.
And yes, Kowalski and Queenie's budding relationship was hands-down the best part of this movie.
"Yeah but I want a wizard with a gun as a backup"
There's a game called Wizard with a Gun haha! Devolver Digital worked on it just as they did with Cult of the Lamb!! It's very similar!
Making of fun of Britain is kinda punching down when one of our states has a higher GDP than the entire country. Which is grey and its main river is sewage. And their best food is Indian food.
But it's still fun.
"I don't know anyone who lives in NY who could be bothered to go to the Statue of Liberty."
Me: Ya do now! Hi! I'm a Long Island native, and our sixth grade class field trip was to the Statue of Liberty!
My mom LOVES this first movie! Her favorite critter is, as expected, the Niffler; there was a time when if she saw Niffler merch, she'd go for it. I love the Bowtruckles myself, but Ive always loved dragons, thestrals, and Buckbeak the hippogriff
Oh s*** i just remembered that Dan Fogler the actor that played Jacob Kowalski he also played in Season 9-11 of The Walking Dead as Luke Abrams
I really liked the first film cuz the main focus was really on the magical creatures. But the more it went on, the story just shifted to Grindelwald and everything else while a few magical creatures would be forcefully inserted in for the namesake.
If they HAD to make this a series, I really wish it was just stories with smaller stakes where Newt would go to different countries, interacting with the wizards there and showcase the difference in their cultures while he studied different magical creatures for his book. Not ANOTHER grand battle of good and evil.
As a born New Yorker who went all the way through college there, you go to the Statue of Liberty one time and it was a school trip. That’s it.
a popular theory is that dumbledore sent Harry to live with the Dursleys in the hope he would develop an obscurus and they could then use that to defeat Voldemort.
"I want a wizard with a gun as a backup!" So you want Harry Dresden.
I love that all were simping for the Niffler from the beginning, and Boom being like "If they do something to the platypus, I'm done". I'd say it's more akin to an echidna, though.
Edit: Dougal is the invisible silver monkey thing. My bad
Fun fact! In the first Harry Potter book, a required book for first years was “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” by Newt Scamander. Fun little reverse Easter egg
I love these movies, I love seeing the wider wizarding world, I love an historical fantasy, Newt is by far my favourite wizarding world character and Grindelwald is a much better villain than Voldemort
1:56 that's how non-Vegas Nevadans feel about Vegas 😂 lol
Shout out to Snake Jazz at 9:21
The female president got me 😂😂😂
Made a similar joke to my best friend introducing them to Battlestar Galactica
I think all three movies were very beautiful. People are very cowardly and cruel to comment like that. Especially Grindelwald in the last episode, Mads Mikkelsen, played very beautifully, and Newt was also great in all the episodes.
I agree with you. People need to get out of their Harry Potter mindset, and view the movies objectively. I saw a comment of a person that didn't see Harry Potter movies and saw in the theater the Fantastic Beasts and found them great movies and loves them a lot. I fill so sad that they didn't finish Dumbledore's story. They were supposed to be 5 movies and ending with the 1945 duel when D. got the elder wand.
fantastic beasts may actually be one of my favorite movies from the franchise. So many incredible characters and finally some Hufflepuff protagonism. I'm so glad it was a self-contained, one shot thing, or else they could've really messed it up
2024 ad. Guys it's time to make a new one
Such a shame this franchise tanked. Reallly wished we got an Ilvermorny-focused series (maybe tweak the details a bit, though) and a Mahoutokoro anime series.
They really do get angry if we joke about them the same way! 😂
The actress that plays that mean adopted mom... She is freaking amazing in the walking dead!
I know it's a little more niche than what you guys normally watch, but I'd really like to see your reactions to The Magicians TV series. It's Harry Potter meets Narnia meets Game of Thrones.
Love the whole group camera shot above the TV
47:45
He's just there like: Should I spoil them?
Just discovered your channel with the HP reactions. Am going through Fallout now and looking forward to this!
You guys, all of you, are delightful.
Muggles… they don’t see nofing do they? 😁
I feel like the salem witch trials is the reason why american wizardsbhave hardher laws about magic.
"shining white eyes" "oh Ruby?" cracked me up
Dragon Pox is what happened to Harry Potter's grandparents on his father's side.
God, I wish these films followed Newt and Jacob just wandering the world and documenting magical creatures...
Jacob Kowalski isn't just the best muggle character in the franchise by default, he might be my favourite character in the series
These movies get their share of (mostly deserved) criticism but this first one to me was still very magical. It felt nearly there in terms of what a prequel could have delivered. At the time of its release I was super optimistic for the others but sadly Rowling’s talent as a creative writer and series author didn’t translate well into screenplay imo. What she tried to bring to life onscreen didn’t always succeed and with each new movie failing to bring back the magic, and also the magical beasts (because hello? where did all of that go to?) it was both super sad but kind of expected that they didn’t get to finish the movies. It was super fun to be in the wizarding world again and see more lore onscreen but you have to overlook a lot of the little things to enjoy these movies. Not to mention all the behind the scenes scandals too! There was so much potential with this one and I wish we could have seen more of Mads in the series because he nails it as Grindelwald
I agree with you regarding the second movie, that didn't show well JKR writings on screen. But for the third, after all the scandals, they changed the story in such a way that they can stop in case it doesn't do as well as they wanted which was unfortunate. Now we are left with half a story, I wish I could have seen the 1945's duel and the involvement of the fantastic beasts in the outcome. And I love Newt and Jacob characters. Also, Mads and Jude were perfect casting for Grindelwald and Dumbledore. Sorry to say, as I love JD as an actor, he didn't do it for me as Grindelwald.
I love the wide shots you guys do it's kinda cool
Female lead getting too much hate, she literally doing her job. Imagine you at work and some weird shit start going on… you gone do what you got to do to keep that job
I can’t help thinking of the guy in blue shirt as the King Julien from Madagascar. The plant behind him looks like a crown of leaves.
Jacob is the best part of this film
this movie was so good that for the first half i forgot i even bought snacks, theaters were great back then
New York City native here. I agree with you guys. It's too busy 😂. Do Not Recommend
Anyone else legit feel like Eddie Redmayne would make a FANTASTIC Doctor in Doctor Who?
It's very interesting that this movie deliberately portrays a one-sided, positively polarized view of the magical creatures. Newt is correct, they are misunderstood, amazing creatures but they do need to be treated with respect and in some cases caution. The pufferfish looking lion creature in his suitcase is one of the most dangerous, deadly creatures in the entire wizarding world, for example.
2:47 who’s suitcase is that perfect on the inside without straps to hold everything in place. 19:13 revival or revisited? 43:31 had to be something with a small entrance for it to shrink down. It wouldn’t shrink down in an open box.
Fun fact it's a theory that Aragog was a gift from Newt to Hagrid
Great reaction, friends! I enjoyed every second of it. THANK YOU! ♥♥♥
Eddie Redmayne plays a wonderful (seemingly autistic) Newt Scamander, who is a very loveable Hufflepuff. And since I`m a Hufflepuff, too, it is inevitable that I love his character.🖤🧡🖤🧡
Kowalskiiiii
First movie is honestly underrated of this trilogy. Next one is overhated imo and third just sucks. Sadly they won't continue this series after third one flopped
The second movie has a lot of good execution of what are essentially dumb ideas.
@The_Sigillite exacly. For me It works even if it had problems
