except koreans exist outside of korea too lmao. part of the reason why koreaboo culture is shitty is because it affects koreans that are oppressed in non-korean dominant countries. koreans in korea don't give a fuck about koreaboos since it doesnt affect them, at all.
Listening to kpop, wearing k-beauty products, and even getting a "Korean style" haircut shouldn't be hated upon in my opinion. Especially for those who truly enjoy the style, no matter what ethnicity. It's great to be open minded and learn about another culture and their language. But if you're denouncing your own race and having surgery to change your face to resemble another race, that's pushing far.
OLIVIA . (00000014872) Some also do it to look more "western". I watched documentaries about surgery in South Korea and many Koreans interviewed were saying that and the surgeon asked was also saying that. We're not delusional. It was said by some Koreans themselves.
@@moochie8296 I guess it's because America is a more free country and is more developed. That's why people wish they were born there instead of their own countries. Hard to understand if you're from a first world country.
@@ThanviVishishta more than a free country or not, people see the tv and movies and they think thats all what america is about. Korea itself is very developed. I think just how peoplr think about things really
The universal rule says that if you see a person with the username " BTS ARMY + some random bs" with a basic kpop picure then the odds of you encountering a koreaboo increases by six fold. No offence to you.
the Korean people in this video were basically just accepting what fans of kpop do. The conversations between him and the people were talking about regular things that aren't harmful. Koreaboos, really, are people who are obsessive and delusional and ignorant to the point where they hurt the people around them and may physically alter themselves to become as Korean as they can be to make up for the fact that they believe they've been born the wrong ethnicity.
As a Korean, that's too sad... K-pop is one of the pop cultures just like American,Latin, or Afro-pop music. I think they say that because they don't want to admit to Korean(or even Asian) culture...? But common, who cares! It's 2019. Life is short and world is wide. Just do whatever you love.
My definition of Koreaboo: A koreaboo is someone who fetishizes Korean culture and try everything they can to look “more Korean” and even wish to become Korean in their next life etc. A koreaboo isn’t someone who wants to learn the language, dress in a similar or exact same style/trend from Korea (it’s just a type of style), nor are they a koreaboo because they love a Kpop band and wear their merch they’re just expressing their love for that band. This is my definition and opinion idk.

123 123 well was I talking about Koreans wanting to be another race? No, also nothing gives they can like whatever they want but I’m talking about Koreaboos :) Edit-> also a person can be a koreaboo if they want idc I’m just saying my definition of koreaboo
Finally! I was searching for this comment. I believe in that defination too. So i was kinda confused on what koreaboo actually was after watching this video. LOL.
Tbh it’s okay for people to be interested in korean culture and want to get to know more about it but lots of kpop fans act in such an inappropriate and immature manner. It’s really annoying to see because it’s like they’re just disregarding korean culture. Like when they write “saranghAeeeee” to their oppars. But most Koreans don’t like romanization and can’t understand it, so I don’t get why fans do it. If you want to communicate with your idols, take the time to invest in the culture and language or AT THE VERY LEAST learn Hangul. Don’t try to just act korean by saying sarang randomly. And some kboos can get really weird💀so for people who like Korea/ kpop/ korean culture I think you just need to take time to learn before acting like u know and love all of it
Finally a comment that mentions this! People definitely need to take time to learn Korean. I myself, I'm learning Korean (Super SUPER DIFFICULT) but it's fun to dive in to the culture. ;) I'm glad that someone finally addresses this.
me: i wanna move to korea. stranger: koreaboo. me: *is self studying korean, educating myself on the culture, is putting a budget, plan and timeframe in order* no, there's a difference between someone genuinely interested in the culture and someone who idealizes and stereotypes it as if korea was someplace straight out of an episode from their favorite k-drama. i just wa- stranger: you wanna be korean. koreaboo. me: ... sure susan. Edit: Fam I don’t care even a fraction as much as I did when I originally wrote this comment so anyone can call me all the names in the book. I’m not gonna let a comment you didn’t even take ten seconds to think of ruin my whole day.
THIS!!! I love the Korean culture and I too have been learning Korean all on my own. My husband thinks its awesome, but evvvveerrrybody seems to throw the "Koreaboo" word out there if you just so happen to say something in Korean and you're american. Like wtf.
This is so me i dont rlly understand why people think its so wierd when i watch K-dramas its almost the same but the only difference is the language barrier.
@@Ayoyinadajima well then theyre wrong. youre not a koreaboo if you do that stuff and its just stupid ignorant people saying that you are. but that doesnt take away the fact that when they exist, they can be pretty awful
MISTA. Unicorn the thing is that 99% of the people labeled koreaboos don’t do that, it’s just assumed they do and just a few people that actually do that bring the rest down. It’s become such a toxic community because the term is just thrown around. Many people just learning Korean or who wish to move there are labeled koreaboos even within the kpop community, and outside of it people are afraid to announce their love for kpop or other k culture out of fear of being labeled like that and targeted by people irl. It’s such a fucking dumb concept, that even Koreans themselves don’t care about it (partially since half of their culture is borrowed from western country), and the fact that the term is still thrown around so much is baffling
Wanting too learn korean, liking Kpop, kdramas, or Korean movies, fashion trends or Korean makeup products don’t make you a koreaboo. In my opinion it’s the same as liking American movies or makeup products.
lirisDior ye bc i think koreans dont experience the cringe firsthand, the victims of koreaboos are koreas overseas like korean americans.. some people become friends and stalk them just because they are korean.. it may sound off but koreans in korea kinda dont get alot of say on koreaboos since the people who experience them are koreans outside of korea lel
@@thegreatdogzilla5855 finally someone said it they were talking about koreaboos as people who enjoy the culture but those arent koreaboos they completely dismissed the fact that they want to be korean
a huge reason why koreaboos are so problematic is because they try to change their race and stuff like -there was this one girl who called herself "transracial" and updated her sns with her "race transitioning" from german to korean- (edit; somebody else used this girl's pics to make fun of her and she didnt upload them herself. so let me use another example!) there are people listening to subliminals to "look more korean" or "look like a kpop idol" which i find hella creepy and the worse part is these subliminal videos get thousands of views with people commenting their "results". i dont think there's any problem with following korean trends, learning the language or anything but when they're screaming oPPar saRanghaE and using very obviously google translated korean it does get cringey. as for makeup / fashion, there's a difference between liking the styles and following them and following them *just to look korean* . eg; that one girl that used _GLUE_ to turn her double eyelids into single eyelids; koreaboo. basically it's okay to like and appreciate it just don't fetishize it 🤠🤙🏻 pls realise that not everything is rainbows and unicorns in korea
For the transracial post, if we are thinking of the same one, the girl whose pictures were used didn't know about it. Someone took her photos and used them to make her into a joke.
[아여니] Aisyah actually that was my pictures used by someone else to made fun of me ... welllll I am german and never said I am asian lol it’s been two years and I still get messages about this
@Anny's World sorry kiddo but thats only an american or western thing. We love other cultures loving our culture. fucks sacks no one comaplins about halloween costumes. we want people to wear it even on halloween.
KOOKMIN / JIKOOK ANALYSIS how does that make her (assuming??) a koreaboo....the video is actually about a Koreans perspective not any other race like ._. Get your facts straight and actually watch the video before you go on about koreaboos and shit
I love their perspective. And I hate the word Koreaboo because it immediately has a negative conotation. Yes I like korean pop culture, I listen to kpop on the regular, I used to watch K-dramas. I buy albums of my favourite artists and I took a korean class as well as studying it on my own - so sometimes, yes, I say random korean things to myself. I'm really interested in their makeup and skincare as well, and obviously I enjoy these interviews in korean (I think mostly because I enjoy the language, so I listen to korean ASMR too). But I dont want to "be korean" or "be reborn as a korean" or idolize them as the perfect person. I enjoy their language and culture. So no, I don't consider myself a koreaboo. Does that make sense?
I feel like the interviewees would’ve gotten a better idea of what “koreaboo nature” is like if they watched a compilation video of koreaboos instead of getting an explanation... but that’s just my opinion lol
Ive seen a Korean guy react to a complimation video of Koreaboos and he didn’t give a crap lol It’s western people who think they know how Koreans feel about those things and are more bothered by it.
He's pretty close friends with Jay, I think he was just trying to ruin the video in any way he could hahaha I kind of think they went to Gangnam together, he was wearing the same outfit in a video he made at Gangnam.
I have no problems if someone's a Koreaboo but I hate it when ppl say "OPPAR SARANG ME ,I SARANG BTS,I WANT TO MARRY AND SARANG KOREANS" bruh just coz they're Koreans doesn't mean u go do all these stuff .... (Edit 1) some girl told me that she's gonna be a Korean "soon" just coz she's gonna go visit Korean doesn't FREAKING mean u can change Ur cast and shits ...
moll li honestly lol I don’t like being friends with koreaboos but if that’s how they want to live their life then so be it. I’m not a koreaboo nor do I want to be korean. I just personally prefer Asian men over American men. And not Asian men as in Koreans, japanese, Chinese, although those are the most common I do find other races from Asia attractive. I’m aware that Asia consists of India, and Russia unlike some koreaboos that think that Koreans are the only Asian race 😂
Western people make a fuss about the koreaboo term and I get where it comes from but I think we shouldnt take it too serious. If no one s getting hurt its fine. I went to seoul to listen to underground hiphop but funny thing is most of the songs in clubs were american. Just like the one boy said - we all like foreign stuff because the things that are familiar might seem boring at times. Lets just be open to new cultures and have a nice time. Just dont over do it with the random korean words. Seriously learning the language actually is way more fun 😉 재미있는 비디오를 공유해줘서 고마워요 🙋
For real tho learning a language is fun! I'm learning Korean but even though I really struggle with the meaning and pronounciation it's still interesting.. @OLIVIA . (00000014872) That what people (Japanese/korean) where saying in videos I watched about this kind of same topic. Saying people would do that to look European or half so they have no prob with westerners doing a surgery to have monolids.
What don’t you understand? Western people care way more about so called “Koreaboos” than actual Koreans themselves. As shown in the video. I don’t think they’re going to care. Not to mention cases like that are so rare and unusual. You don’t have to do any of those things to still be considered a Koreaboo to people.
I'll just be trying to watch a kdrama and some irrelevant bish will pop up in the comments like "OmaGaWWd that persons SidE profile LooOks liKe JIMIN" or "ohhh That OappPaHh's toes looks JUST like JunGkooK's Foot"
it was nice hearing the Koreans respecting the people who like Korean culture, fashion, having Korean names, etc. but I wouldn't really consider them as Koreaboos ^-^
When he mentioned the word “porn”, you panic Jay! You panic 😂😹😹😂 But seriously speaking, its a good thing that all of these people in this video are positive about this “issue”.
i'm sorry but i think the idea of 'koreaboo' you portrayed in this video isn't really koreaboo.. copying korean trends, having a korean name, liking korean culture etc. isn't bad! it's not koreaboo. koreaboo is sticking double eyelids together to have monolids (as someone pointed out in the comments, this is not inherently a bad thing! weird and questionable but not horrible), pretending to be korean on social media, being interested in a korean person solely because they are korean and not being interested in them as a person. actual koreaboos dehumanise korean people and make korean culture into some kind of 'trend' or 'accessory'. i am half korean, and i think there is absolutely no problem with people wanting to know more about korean culture, being into kfashion, eating korean food; in fact i love it when people appreciate korean culture. using korean words in everyday language is a bit cringey but not disrespectful. but people trying to be friends with me just because i'm korean? people fetishising koreans? those are koreaboos, and they're hella creepy.
Tori Tries to game No? What? That's like wanting to be Beyoncé. Ofc You can aspire to be it because it is a glamorous life that you're presented with from Korean record labels all the time. Idols are like one big advertisement for the massive idol industry. It's okay to dream about being one, but just be realistic that if you are not of Asian descent at all, not even half, you most likely will not make it. And don't try to _become_ Korean like some of those k-boos.
If they blatantly say that kboos unintentionally disrespect the culture while trying to be like them, it’ll ruin the experiment because it will automatically create a bias (normal definition).
There’s nothing wrong with loving the culture but some people goes to crazy extents of changing their whole appearance to look Korean which I don’t like at all tbh
I think it’s ok to once be curious and give yourself a monolid for fun to see how it looks but getting surgery and changing your natural self is just sad..these ppl probably went through smth that made them this way wanting to erase their past and be korean
I’m not surprised that Koreans don’t really care but i think i would only describe a koreaboo as doing things such as dating/befriending koreans bcs they are what they are & saying that they’re korean or want to become korean. i feel like people are called koreaboos for simply appreciating the culture and such a word should only be used in a severe situation as these :) just my opinion.
I think I’m far to be a Koreaboo but I love SK and admire SK people. I love their language, their music and entertainment, I like to know about their culture, their traditions, their history. If there’s something in which sk is involved like sports and such I’m always supporting them. I got into korean culture around 11 years ago and I like it until now.
uh no. Only westerners are bothered by koreaboos, not koreans. But the excuse westerners give for hating koreaboos is that koreans would be offended by it lol
The things seen as cringe in the west is actually pretty normal/accepted in my country. Literally korean slang/culture is very popular these days but it has been a thing for a very long time already. Even "oppa" has become a very commonly used word. Well, there are tons of koreans who live here in their younger years to learn english, as well as many families who migrate here to start businesses because it's pretty cheap compared to their country 😅 so they've always been present in our communities. It's mostly just the west who gets annoyed.
123 123 not really. I’m Korean, my boyfriend is korean. I don’t mind if they are appreciating our culture or if they are fans of K pop that’s all fine. But when they are actual koreaboos it can be really creepy and insulting like the girl my friend showed me that said “Koreans will worship me cause I’m white” or “I do korean make up I have to make my eye smaller” and we also think it’s weird when they think all we do is “act cute” they make it look so cringe....like it’s offensive? I don’t know how to explain it to you but like for us to do aegyo naturally then see someone make it seem so weird makes you feel as they are mocking you
people saying in the comments that Koreans are okay w Koreaboos... Not everything was mentioned in th video, how some people want to change their races or date Korean people just cause they are Korean .... one of my Korean friends told me how awful and uncomfortable he felt when these random girls were calling him 오빠 and wanted to date him just cause he was Korean... Also there are many stories about actual Koreaboos online, how they followed Koreans around, borderline stalked, glued their eyelids etc etc there isn't anything wrong with liking the culture , music or style, but Koreaboos dehumaniz Koreans in a sense and I frankly think that's not okay
Exactly. I don’t think the MC did a good job explaining how extreme Koreaboos are. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying Korean pop culture. But kboos totally cross that line. And a lot of kboos will watch this video and feel validated.
I’m not sure if others would agree but I don’t think this was a really good depiction of what a Koreaboo is actually like. You gave the impression that koreaboos are people who are genuinely interested in and appreciate Korean culture when really they don’t. They try to look Korean by physically changing the shape of their eyes either by removing their double eyelids using tape or glue, or elongating the length of their eyes. They speak basic Korean most of the time even if the people they’re talking to speak English! They openly express how they wish they were ethnically Korean. They hold Koreans to the standards they created from watching Kdramas instead of acknowledging Korea’s culture. They also fetishise Koreans. Some Koreaboos even go to the length of stalking Koreans. I think if you had fully explained the behaviour of Koreaboos, they would have had a completely different answer!
There are some koreans that do all that you describe to Japanese or American culture, so No, koreans wre chill and dont care what you do to make yourself happy
I love Korean culture but I don't think I'm a Koreaboo lol love this video 형! 👌🏻 But I'm kind of surprise that it's the first time for some Koreans to hear about the word and they think of it positively! It's great if you want to learn about their culture, language and fashion style. The problem is that they idealize it. They think everyone will look like actors and idols, and be like a drama. We can't forget that they sexualize/objectified Koreans. I even saw comments that we're like "oopa rape me" Everything in an extreme is bad.
Umm Im sorry but Korean men are regular men are they not? Fan girls say those weird things to non Korean men as well. Fan girls say some crazy things. And those are only extreme cases and rarely happen. Girls can sexualize any man not just Korean men. If you ask me I think people like you are actually degrading Korean men down to an item or something that can be “fetishized” , they are regular men. And you are the one acting like Korean men are some type of different species or something.
@@graciekattan6618 You sound like you're 11. Given that most of the 'foreign' fanbase of kpop consists of 8-16 year olds, makes it more problematic and annoying. Their fanpages/groups are just filled with creepy and thirsty (mostly unattractive which explains why) teens who later transforms into the most scary 👹 on the planet, the infamous koreaboos.
same thing happens with korean people and other races. since SK is so homogenized with nearly 100% of the population being korean, knowing a black, white, brown person on a personal level can be rare. this is why a lot of koreans have the assumption that all black people have soulful voices, can rap, and dance to hip hop. many still think all americans have blonde hair, blue eyes, are loud, party all the time, and are sexually free. some korean guys even have white girl/black girl fantasies and have the phrase "riding the black/white horse" 💀💀 because they think foreign girls are more promiscuous. when something is very foreign to you, media shapes your perception. it's simply just ignorance; same thing with koreaboos (except the "oppa rape me" person, that's just fucked up)

Funny how I used to have a thing for all things Korean much like how Westerners define Koreaboo... but when I lived there I actually realized that as much as I really really love Korea, yep not just pop culture, I won't live there for good nor have a relationship/marry a Korean. There's more to the good amazing country we all perceive Korea to be. I'm saying this since I experienced living there haha plus!! i agree with what 5:36 guy said. It's actually better if you experience it firsthand with native Koreans because you'll learn and realize a lot of things!!
The guy you finished the video with - everytime I thought "Ah, he sounds so intelligent, nice, I like him" he said things like po*n, f*ck boy, s*it, etc. 😂😂 Thanks to him I had a laugh 😂.
I love this. More westerners need to watch this, and get themselves educated, before they harass and attack people over something Korean’s (most) couldn’t care less about, and think it’s perfectly fine, and in some cases find it endearing 🙏🏻♥️
Until you stop treating koreans like some sort of sex object, many will still see you guys in a bad light. The key idea is the fact that most koreans don't know of you guys, since they have the privilege to not coexist with you weirdos. Lol
I think for me as a Korean/American living in the states I just find it kind of annoying when people come up and ask me how to say this or that. Once or twice is fine but it kind of gets annoying after a while. I don't think I necessarily hate or find koreaboos annoying but I can't help but kind of find some people who litteraly fantasize and fetishize Korean culture to be weird. Again I'm not calling those who listen to kpop, learning Korean, and like their style/makeup but those who just ignore their own culture and stuff. Idk that's just my opinion. Tldr: I don't really find them to be hateful or annoying but people can go too far sometimes and that's annoying.
All of the people's opinion were so on point. I'm not a koreaboo but I don't hate them, everyone has the freedom to know more about something they have an interest in :)
"나는 외국이지만 한국 문화를 이해하고 좋아한다" "Although i am a foreigner, i understand and like the Korean culture" I'm using that for my Korean yearly speaking exam tomorrow. Thanks So watching UA-cam does help🙃😂
This is the first time I'm realizing westerners "defend" Korean culture from Koreaboos more than actual Korean people. As a person who is interested in Korea and making an effort to try learn/understand the culture, language etc. I'm often terrified of being called a "Koreaboo" or disrespecting their culture so I gotta say I actually teared up watching this. I'm really touched :')
After watching this video, i found it funny that non-koreans judge a lot about koreaboo while koreans itself think it was ok. I wonder why. Even if you non-korean know how to speak in korean it doesn't make you a korean so stop judging other people.
I don't think that liking the Korean culture is wrong what's concerning is if you WANT to be Korean, you WANT to look Korean and you don't like your ethnicity nor your looks, you don't accept yourself the way you are and you just view Koreans as superior people.
This video is sooo trueee. I am Korean, born in Korea. I lived in Canada for 8 years. All my friends in Canada who like kpop says that how much they hate koreaboo people on the internet and tells me that I should get offended. Why? Why? They are loving my culture and I am happy for that. Korean people like to follow many western culture trends but no one says anything about that. Dear Kpop fans, you can do whatever you want! The only foreign fans that made me angry were Seungri's fan who continued to defend him after all the things that he has done lol.
So you really think they love your culture? Debatable. If your entire Korean culture is just limited to kpop then maybe it's true because the 12 yo teen girls are in it for the hot and cute kpop boys, that's about it. Personally, I don't have a problem with that either if they stop acting cringy on the internet. Oh and the "BTS fans click like" comments on every mildly asian video I watch are my absolute favorites!
I like the Korean culture not pop culture like i think Korea has so much culture in food, clothes, technology ,makeup and the people all the Koreans I’ve meet where so nice and don’t forget about the history the dynasties and all it just fascinates me and everyone in my family knows I would like to go even if it just for a holiday i also like the language i say Eomma , appa, oppa ,annyeonghasseyo gamsahabnida And annyeong a lot but only to family its the influence of watching to much kdrama and the language learning app i use and i sometimes use a korean keyboard to see how good i am at recognising the Korean alphabet
Tbh I dont think this really went into the full extent of a koreaboo, someone who denounces their own culture and believe korea is superior- Its more than just dressing in Korean styles, etc imo. The examples given weren't that extreme so of course those being interviewed wouldn't respond negatively about the topic, but this is gonna be gassing koreaboos up, their kboo ego is gonna skyrocket lmao 😭

It was really refreshing hearing their POV the thing is I love Korean culture I love their food, fashion, Kdrama/ KPOP, language( I am learning and studying very hard and using it respectfully sometimes I say some phrases to myself but only to help me memorize it 😊 ) and I love their makeup and I honestly wouldn’t mind being with a Korean guy in the future but they are not the only guys I like( I would not mind being with any race as long as they treat me nice!) ...... but I really don’t want to be seen as a Koreaboo because I love my own culture and don’t want to be Korean at all I just admire them! Does this make me a koreaboo?
I think people hate koreanboos so much is because they’re pretending to be someone they’re not and sometimes it gets up to the point where it can be cringey or disturbing. P.s, Wearing exo bts or any kpop group merch makes you a fan not a koreaboo xo
koreaboos can be problematic in the sense of wanting to be "transracial", but i also think they are highly criticized in countries like the us bc those are countries that are used to being followed, so they don't know how to react when something else is being followed breaking their comfort norm
I started learning Korean after I had to do a project for my work about how k pop was viewed by western elderly people. I not only fell in love with the language but also with Korean history, its social ups and downs, the history of their language etc. As a way of exposing myself to the language I started watching movies and dramas in Korean and learning about their cosmetic industry. And I realised that once yo k-in you can't k-out. I've been brought up in a multicultural home by a judo sensei who talked to me in English and a fashion entrepreneur mum who talked to me in French while my godfather talked to me in Italian,so it's no surprise I keep falling in love with new cultures and Korea has a especial place in my heart. If that makes me a Koreaboo, proud to be one 😎
- Korean uptake in US universities rose by almost 14% between 2013 and 2016, while overall language enrolment was in decline. - 14,000 students are learning Korean in the US, compared to only 163 two decades earlier. - Duolingo launched a Korean course last year because of rising demand. It quickly attracted more than 200,000 pupils. - The South Korean government is capitalising on its cultural assets by setting up 130 language institutes in 50 countries.
If you ask Koreans who live in America it’s a whole different story. I am Korean who lives in the US but grew up in Korea and me and my friends tend to avoid Korea-obsessing Americans at our school.
정말 친절해요! But I think they were talking more about fans of the culture than actual koreaboos... There is a certain loss of identity when someone goes that far; it's more extreme than just jokingly mixing a word in Korean here and there. Still, very interesting to learn about Koreans perspectives on this.
I’m not a koreaboo, I never really bothered about korea until I got into bts in 2014 then I was learning more about korea and I really like the culture in general, I find my self more into korea than my own country but I’m not a koreaboo
Yes some “koreaboos” go really far but that is the huge minority, a lot of people love Korea recently due to its popularity from the music, drama and fashion, but get labelled koreaboss wrongly from social justice warriors. Like how u gonna argue when koreans themselves are saying there fine with it 💀(I’ve also heard other opinions not just from this video),

Listening to kpop, wearing k-beauty products, and even getting a "Korean style" haircut shouldn't be hated upon in my opinion. Especially for those who truly enjoy the style, no matter what ethnicity. It's great to be open minded and learn about another culture and their language. But if you're denouncing your own race and having surgery to change your face to resemble another race, that's pushing far.

the Korean people in this video were basically just accepting what fans of kpop do.
My definition of Koreaboo:
A koreaboo is someone who fetishizes Korean culture and try everything they can to look “more Korean” and even wish to become Korean in their next life etc.
A koreaboo isn’t someone who wants to learn the language, dress in a similar or exact same style/trend from Korea (it’s just a type of style), nor are they a koreaboo because they love a Kpop band and wear their merch they’re just expressing their love for that band.

Like when they write “saranghAeeeee” to their oppars. But most Koreans don’t like romanization and can’t understand it, so I don’t get why fans do it.

a huge reason why koreaboos are so problematic is because they try to change their race and stuff like -there was this one girl who called herself "transracial" and updated her sns with her "race transitioning" from german to korean- (edit; somebody else used this girl's pics to make fun of her and she didnt upload them herself. so let me use another example!) there are people listening to subliminals to "look more korean" or "look like a kpop idol" which i find hella creepy and the worse part is these subliminal videos get thousands of views with people commenting their "results". i dont think there's any problem with following korean trends, learning the language or anything but when they're screaming oPPar saRanghaE and using very obviously google translated korean it does get cringey. as for makeup / fashion, there's a difference between liking the styles and following them and following them *just to look korean* . eg; that one girl that used _GLUE_ to turn her double eyelids into single eyelids; koreaboo. basically it's okay to like and appreciate it just don't fetishize it 🤠🤙🏻 pls realise that not everything is rainbows and unicorns in korea

copying korean trends, having a korean name, liking korean culture etc. isn't bad! it's not koreaboo.
koreaboo is sticking double eyelids together to have monolids (as someone pointed out in the comments, this is not inherently a bad thing! weird and questionable but not horrible), pretending to be korean on social media, being interested in a korean person solely because they are korean and not being interested in them as a person. actual koreaboos dehumanise korean people and make korean culture into some kind of 'trend' or 'accessory'.

It's mostly just the west who gets annoyed.
I was thinking that the whole video!! Lol
*yeEt*
Also there are many stories about actual Koreaboos online, how they followed Koreans around, borderline stalked, glued their eyelids etc etc
there isn't anything wrong with liking the culture , music or style, but Koreaboos dehumaniz Koreans in a sense and I frankly think that's not okay
that’s simply criminal behavior. They’re not koreaboos they’re jailboos
Exactly. I don’t think the MC did a good job explaining how extreme Koreaboos are. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying Korean pop culture. But kboos totally cross that line. And a lot of kboos will watch this video and feel validated.
I watched a cringy Koreaboo compilation earlier and I kept thinking disgutangggg
I totally agree! Great comment..
Yea and they also fetishize Koreans a LOT
@@sushi6926 most korean guys dont care who fetishizes whom
I think they're different levels.
I love Korean culture but I don't think I'm a Koreaboo lol love this video 형! 👌🏻
But I'm kind of surprise that it's the first time for some Koreans to hear about the word and they think of it positively! This is why I love Korea! ❤❤❤
Also, to the guy who spoke f*ck and sh*t a lot, I like what you said a lot about cultures. That there's only diffences between them. 👌🏻
I've been in to kpop and koreans 10 years already and my love for this people only grows. But I've seen fans who make me regret calling myself a kpop fan.everything has boundaries lets keep them. Anything too much can be harmful. Love the video and that girl in white is so chill i love her 😻
Wow their rlly chill about it and they also explain things perfectly I respect that👍
It's great if you want to learn about their culture, language and fashion style.
They're fking everywhere so obviously they'd be pointed out first. Their fanpages/groups are just filled with creepy and thirsty (mostly unattractive which explains why) teens who later transforms into the most scary 👹 on the planet, the infamous koreaboos.
same thing happens with korean people and other races. since SK is so homogenized with nearly 100% of the population being korean, knowing a black, white, brown person on a personal level can be rare. this is why a lot of koreans have the assumption that all black people have soulful voices, can rap, and dance to hip hop. many still think all americans have blonde hair, blue eyes, are loud, party all the time, and are sexually free. some korean guys even have white girl/black girl fantasies and have the phrase "riding the black/white horse" 💀💀 because they think foreign girls are more promiscuous. when something is very foreign to you, media shapes your perception. it's simply just ignorance; same thing with koreaboos (except the "oppa rape me" person, that's just fucked up)
@@geolex4560 You're right but it still doesn't excuse this behavior in any form. Just cause it happens there doesnt mean we should condone it occurring in our society. We know it's weird and wrong
Lexi Bowen Yeah
7:55 🤣🤣🤣🤣 damn near fell off the couch laughing hearing him going off cursing. my kind of man.
funny how westerners but boundaries up for a culture who doesnt even know what theyre talking about
So trueeeeeeeee
Because it's probably not as frequent there because they don't need to try to be korean 😂
He didn't get the definition of koreaboo right
8:00 too much to handle for jay!😂
Mr Australia really has a good vocab on curse words 😂😂
This is honestly fascinating...I myself wasn’t fond of Koreaboos but now that I see a little of the Korean view of it, as long as it’s respectful, it’s really cool that they like it.
omg now koreaboos r gonna be happy coz it’s “okay” / “accepted”
lattae I think they lightly touched on kboos, which is ok. But I feel like they didn’t explain it fully to Korean people. Bc if Turkishboos were a thing I would not accept it at all. You can learn our language and like our culture but you’re not going to act like you’re Turkish bc it’s just weird
Look at the comments. 😂 They feel so validated.
ERGSEG Exactly when this video didn’t even highlight what being a Koreaboo actually is.
@@letsgoogle9493 bruh I live in a German country and non turks act pretty much Turkish but all of the turks accept it and they even love it smh. Not tryna sugarcoat koreaboos tho

Western people: ok Koreaboos plis calm down you are Bering creepy and possessive. Stop it.
Koreans: OmG thank you for loving Korea and being interested in our culture!
Me: .... ok so I don’t think these Koreans are a 100% sure about the length the Koreaboos go.
I'm saying this since I experienced living there haha
plus!! i agree with what 5:36 guy said. It's actually better if you experience it firsthand with native Koreans because you'll learn and realize a lot of things!!
이런 열리고 따뜻한 마음들을 들을 수 있어서 너무 감동이고 뿌듯하네요ㅠㅠㅠ♥️ 모든 사람들이 이랬으면 좋겠네요^^✌🏽
Love your vid. The participants were great especially the cursing guy, loved him.
The guy you finished the video with - everytime I thought "Ah, he sounds so intelligent, nice, I like him" he said things like po*n, f*ck boy, s*it, etc. 😂😂 Thanks to him I had a laugh 😂.
You might wanna check out ShanDan TV😉
I don't know what Koreaboo is.
But I love foreigners who like Korean culture. I feel friendly to them. I like them.
Lol
Christian lucario Not entirely sure what relevance your comment has to mine but, whatever floats your boat 🤷🏼♀️
Me: *intrested in k-pop, k-dramas, korean culture, the beauty in korea, and wants to visit south korea*
Person: KOREABOO!!
7:09 those random girls waving in the background tho😂😂 how cute
The guy who keeps on cussing gives me life.
I laughed so hard, I am in tears.
All of the people's opinion were so on point. I'm not a koreaboo but I don't hate them, everyone has the freedom to know more about something they have an interest in :)
"나는 외국이지만 한국 문화를 이해하고 좋아한다"
"Although i am a foreigner, i understand and like the Korean culture"
I'm using that for my Korean yearly speaking exam tomorrow. Thanks
So watching UA-cam does help🙃😂
You have passed the non- Koreaboo test👍😂
This is the first time I'm realizing westerners "defend" Korean culture from Koreaboos more than actual Korean people.
As a person who is interested in Korea and making an effort to try learn/understand the culture, language etc. I'm often terrified of being called a "Koreaboo" or disrespecting their culture so I gotta say I actually teared up watching this. I'm really touched :')
You mean gatekeep
7:55 this guy is my spirit animal lmao😂😂 first he used p*rn as an example then at this scene where he just blurted out all the cuss words he knows
After watching this video, i found it funny that non-koreans judge a lot about koreaboo while koreans itself think it was ok. I wonder why. Even if you non-korean know how to speak in korean it doesn't make you a korean so stop judging other people.
"YEOBOSEYO... UH... I MEAN... HELLO"
I CAN'T OMG JAGDJSJS THAT VIDEO IS ICONIC
I love this! Thank you for the positivity! ❤
I don't think that liking the Korean culture is wrong what's concerning is if you WANT to be Korean, you WANT to look Korean and you don't like your ethnicity nor your looks, you don't accept yourself the way you are and you just view Koreans as superior people.
koreans arent offended by that. only non koreans
Oh you mean like all those people that leave their country and want to become german, american, british? Yeah how horrible to want to live in the land and culture that you actually like.
@@MeitanteiNoMusume No, thats not at all what I meant. There is nothing wrong with liking another culture. I am referring to the obsessed people who denounce their own race/etc., claim to be BIOLOGICALLY Korean/etc. when they aren't, and become so blinded by this obsession that they believe the country is a utopia and even fetishize people from that country.
Kpop fans= koreaboo
Anime fans= weaboo
What about people who like American pops or British pops?
Westerners just don’t like the growing popularity of the eastern culture.
There are lots of Asians trying to be westernized and admire American styles. They learn English and want to sound like Americans and act like Americans.
There’s no term for them.
yeah i agree eek
@@tannedpotato5375 well liking kpop and anime doesn't make u koreaboo or weaboo its how u act about, like koreaboo its a very extreme act like what he said and being a kpop fan doesn't have to make u one
American here who adores Korea! I am fascinated by the cultural differences and I’m a big fan of the food! Loved the reaction of the people in this video 🇺🇸♥️🇰🇷
Haha the guy that kept cursing killed me 😂😂😂
I think people hate koreanboos so much is because they’re pretending to be someone they’re not and sometimes it gets up to the point where it can be cringey or disturbing.
P.s, Wearing exo bts or any kpop group merch makes you a fan not a koreaboo xo
these Koreans basically said *”its okay to be a koreaboo im a foreignboo”*
koreaboos can be problematic in the sense of wanting to be "transracial", but i also think they are highly criticized in countries like the us bc those are countries that are used to being followed, so they don't know how to react when something else is being followed breaking their comfort norm
He thought a koreanboo is korea~boooo i'm dead 😂😂
I didn't expect this 1:02 and this 2:37😂😂😅
And 4:42 but its true tho 😂💁😯

- Korean uptake in US universities rose by almost 14% between 2013 and 2016, while overall language enrolment was in decline.
- 14,000 students are learning Korean in the US, compared to only 163 two decades earlier.
- Duolingo launched a Korean course last year because of rising demand. It quickly attracted more than 200,000 pupils.
- The South Korean government is capitalising on its cultural assets by setting up 130 language institutes in 50 countries.
This kinda makes me feel good. I'm always getting laughed at by friends and coworkers because i'm so into Korean culture.
If you ask Koreans who live in America it’s a whole different story. I am Korean who lives in the US but grew up in Korea and me and my friends tend to avoid Korea-obsessing Americans at our school.

Very good video!
정말 친절해요!
But I think they were talking more about fans of the culture than actual koreaboos... There is a certain loss of identity when someone goes that far; it's more extreme than just jokingly mixing a word in Korean here and there.
Still, very interesting to learn about Koreans perspectives on this.
