I like it, especially since its a slice of life show more than an action show which is still odd as to why some people hate it because the animation of this slice of life show is not the same as Jujustu Kaisen. Also the reason it may have been an early reveal for Lois is because this show doesn't know if its getting a second season

The writers of this show definitely understands what makes Superman special. It use to be rare to see them focus on his humanity outside of comics, but I noticed more and more shows and movies are centered around that aspect of the character. He is superMAN, not SUPERman. Yeah, we like to see him fight robots , aliens, and monsters, but his humanity makes us actually care.

I like the character growth being implied there. Because Superman isn't just a helper or rescuer, he's also a guardian. A defender and warrior. He's not quite adopted that mindset yet but I got a feeling its coming later on in the show. Its gonna be interesting watching him grow and evolve.

I always saw Superman as showing the best that humans can be, not in terms of power but humanity. One of the best moments in the comics is in Superman All-Star. In brief, he hears a kid who is about to jump off a building, drops everything and talks them down. Its the small acts of humanity that really make the character for me.

A lot of modern writers make the mistake of focusing on the power aspect and make him a god among men. Which is ironic because, at least for me, his humanity is what i find the most interesting part about him. He is superMAN not SUPERman.
I learned an easy way to tell whether or not the writer understands what makes superman great is how they treat clark kent. If clark isnt his main personality then you're probably gonna get the god among men version.
This show is definitely different but ot understands superman surprisingly well.

Superman has always had three "identities," so to speak: Superman, Kal'El, and Clark Kent. Every interpretation of the character I'm aware of seems to address this by implying that two of these identities are masks that the character wears, and the third is the real person. My favourite interpretations are almost universally the ones where Clark Kent - the goofy, good-hearted, farmboy who is also an intelligent investigative reporter - is the core personality of who the character really is. Superman is a mask he wears to the public when he's super-heroing, and Kal'El is a herritage that he has and embraces, but doesn't really define his personality. Superman and Kal'El are layers on top of the core of the character, that is Clark.

  • @richardryley3660

I love the fact that everyone in this show is so young. For Clark, of course, it brings him down to his humanity. There is no need to make him brokenly overpowered, he is just learning his powers, and hasn't had a lifetime of storing up solar energy. He makes mistakes, we get to see him fail, and he's only just starting to learn how to live in his "world of cardboard". As you pointed out, it seems like he can solve every crime instantly, but he CAN'T. Not only would the laws of physics cause massive damage at that speed, but as his super hearing taught him, Clark can't possibly help everyone who needs him all at the same time. Clark was driven into a panic by the lesson that he can't physically save everyone, to the point where he caused an accident. He HAS to choose his battles.
More importantly, Superman doesn't even exist yet. In the future, he will be the perfect god everyone loves, but right now there is only Clark. He is deciding who he wants Superman to be, but hasn't made him that yet. And people don't trust him. We get to see Clark for who he is, a goofy, idealistic Boy Scout because that's all there is right now.
And for Lois her youth is a great plus for her character too. Like Clark, she's still finding herself, she's not the ace reporter with a reputation that preceeds her, she's an intern who is often too brazen for her own good. She's inexperienced, and that inexperience shows when she makes mistakes or doubts herself. That makes it all the cooler that she and Clark are falling in love and sharing the secret of Clark's powers so soon, because the complement each other. They can help each other grow into the heroes we know, instead of only meeting after that happens.
Even Jimmy benefits. The original Jimmy Olsen was a bit of an odd man out because he was much younger, and thus not as experienced as Clark and Lois. To the point where modern incarnations usually dropped him because they could figure out what to do with him. With Jimmy the same age as Clark and Lois, he really can be "Superman's Pal", and we can see him grow alongside them. It'll be cool to watch him grow into the hardened, professional photographer who is Superman and Lois's equal. Or at least start on that path.
What I find most interesting about the show, especially lately, is the implication that the Kryptonians are the true villains. All the tech appears to have been reverse engineered from Kryptonian technology, and the Zero Day invasion was such a shock to Clark that he actually had a Iron Giant moment of questioning whether he was created to be a.weapon. I think it's likely that the enemy will turn out to be something like General Zod, a small minority of militant Kryptonians, but the idea of Superman being at war with his own people and their technology is definitely an interesting concept. I'm really looking forward to the final episode.

Meanwhile, the REAL Superman fans knew who the best Superman was from the very beginning. You see in the Modern Age comics, he was exactly like this. He wanted to help people, and he did.
For those of you saying this "fixes him" just tells me you all never read a real Superman comic. He was always like this and it is ironic that it took them changing him to really appreciate him.

I agree! Supes was never meant to be a god or a nietchian archetype. He was created with the optimistic mindset of how good humanity can be. I used to watch the vintage Fleischer Superman cartoon's growing up, and as far as I can tell the Fleischer's understood Superman better than modern writers/artists. In their series, Superman is flawed, he got hurt and made mistakes. To me that was more interesting than the "god amongst men" persona which can make readers feel isolated from the character.
MAWS really brings Superman back to his roots as a character, not just by making him vulnerable and focusing on his human side, but also in terms of genre, because it has a futuristic, sci-fi approach which is also the focus early Superman comics and cartoons. I am so glad the series exists because not only does it treat the characters like real people, but also stays true to the spirit of the genre. The writers clearly understood who Superman and his friends are as characters, and it shows.

Someone who could push back against the corrupt and powerful because none of their tools of coercion worked. Like, how do you threaten a man who bullets don't work on and can't be bought? I think the best thing is to really think about why Superman was created.
Superman was created by two Jewish immigrants during one of the most racist. Anti-semietic times in our history.
In fact they nearly came up with a charecter who was evil and would use his superior phycic abilities to take over the world. So it's not like people of this era were incapable of picturing dark gritty stories.
However...they chose to write a bout an alien immigrant who uses his powers for good.
See...people think Superman is a cookie cutter hero. But what they don't realize was that he was always the Subversion. Superman was the guy who would fight against our worse impulses.
If you wonder why Superman got so powerful its because human beings got more powerful.
Remember Superman came out before even the Atom bomb dropped.
Superman needs to be strong enough to handle any evil humanity can conjure because he's meant to represent the idea that humanity will live another day

If you still disagree, then you just possibly never really understood superman as a character.
Do note the Invincible universe is a love letter to DC comics with Mark Grayson being a merger of Dick Grayson and Superboy and his Father is General zod and Jor-El.
So of course this very comic accurate young superman show reminds you of mark Grayson, this the character that bloody inspired him.

Finally someone else who sees the potencial in this series!
I was the same, I was never very interested in Superman but this show fixed all that, yes he is an alien, yes he is powerful but the core of him is his humanity, kindness, dorkiness, that boy-scout energy that makes you love him.
My heart broke into a thousand pieces when Clark read people's cruel comments (also quite racist/xenophobic those comments, can I say? That's the english work? I know he's not human and that he passes for a Caucasian man but still, maybe an allegory? I'm not from USA so I don't know much how this kind of stuff are there in this cases) without mentioning that final fight, He was so exhausted, my poor baby.
He just wants to help, but of course people don't believe that someone can be so altruistic, no one helps just because, no one is so good and decent, and since he is powerful according to their logic (and the paranoia of the government btw) it makes him dangerous, even if accidents happen, it doesn't matter to anyone, no matter how many people he helps, he will always be the bad guy, but even all that it doesn't affect his desire to do good, how many people can still do that after being treated as a monster/criminal?
I can't wait for the next episodes.

Lois is so different from Amber. They’re both angry that their bf lied to them, but Louis is also worried about him, Amber isn’t. Within 24 hours she tells him “where were you, you just ran away” and “I know you’re a superhero” how does that make sense, did she not se him fight that guy, did she think he was someone else. It honestly would have made sense if she broke up with him while knowing he was a superhero. It just seams like something the show would do, but that other scene and how she acted before it totally ruined it

She HATES lies on principle and has said and shown that lying to her royally pisses her off because of her issues with her dad, and once she explains herself as what really set her off was anxiety over if their whole relationship was just part of a cover. Which makes sense. Once the main trio start communicating they tend to work stuff out pretty well.

Being fair, the comics, from what I hear, tend to justify it as 'Clark often plays up the 'bumbling reporter' act', with his physique being justified by being a farm boy who had to put in a lot of manual labor. It's not that they don't look similar, it's that Clark Kent plays things up to make people think 'He looks like the Man of Steel but there's no way that's him'. To bring up a quote thing I stole from TVTropes as an example (It talks about Batman too but bear with it)...
      ---
the-swift-tricker: It's easy to mock the concept of Batman's secret identity and think it's ridiculous that nobody would realize that he's Bruce Wayne but if some lady suddenly showed up late at night dressed in full military grade kevlar and started fighting crime in Los Angeles I wouldn't look at that and think "ah it's Kylie Jenner"
you-got-it-capstar: Same logic applies to Clark Kent tbh. I wouldn't see Superman, the crazy powerful alien, zooming past me and go "I think he's secretly an award winning journalist"
      the-swift-tricker: "It's a bird, it's a plane, it's... Anderson Cooper?"
appendingfic: *sees masked man fighting both crime and corruption* I have no idea who that is, but it is NOT a billionaire.
spifalling: People don't even recognize Tony Hawk without the skateboard what do you expect
      ---
Here, Clark hasn't had NEARLY enough time to get the personality divide between the two down pat (as Superman is very much just Clark in a different outfit and Lois was around him from the beginning, same with Jimmy. It makes perfect sense that they'd be able to figure out Clark Kent was out Superheroing.
It's also fair to note that it's obvious to US since we have the more wide viewpoint of the reader. We know from the start that Clark Kent and Superman are the same people. That's something that kind gets unfairly left out, it's easy for us to mock people for not realizing something that seems simple to us but we get all the pieces of the puzzle. You could be told who the Mastermind is in Danganronpa V3, for instance, and from the outset, you'd constantly be saying 'IT'S SO OBVIOUS, WHY DOESN'T ANYONE SEE IT, THE MASTERMIND KEEPS GIVING THEMSELVES AWAY' but only because you know the truth form the start and, thus, you can see the hidden meanings behind their actions (and lack of actions).
I think the best way to describe how Clark gets away with it usually has to do with a line said by Joker in Arkham City: "So, how do you keep a secret from the world's greatest detective? Well, do you know? It's easy! You stick it right in front of him, right under his long, pointy nose... and wait!"
Sometimes, the hardest things to grasp are ones that seem most simple and obvious when solved.

Superman was never broken if you ask me. He may have had godlike abilities, but at his core, at his best, he's just a sweet guy from Kansas. There's a reason why he's called Superman and not Superdemigod. He may have had some bad adaptations, sure, but again, which hero doesn't? I do feel like perhaps you may have focused on only the negative aspects of the comics, and mind you, Superman definitely does have some really dumb and really horrid comics, but he's had more hits than misses IMO.

The reason it worked out well it because theybhad a solid theme, competing ideologies and we watched a story about how he wins in the end. It's not about the destination It's about the journey.
The reason the Dark Knight trilogy was so good wasn't because Batman was just doing the right thing we saw competing ideologies and just how far Batman would go to fight for his morals and principals made even better that he had to sacrifice a lot so they established that there was a lot at stake.

I see where you're coming from, that it's good to have a protagonist grow, which means you start them off with a few flaws to overcome. That holds up, though I'm not as much a believer in that as I used to be. I look at the more interesting people around me, and what defines them isn't their flaws but their strengths. What makes me proud of those people is when they overcome obstacles, but those obstacles don't have to be character flaws. The obstacles may simply be matters of the human condition: some things are stressful, some things are difficult for anyone, but where they shine is how they deal with adversity.
I feel like there's a distinction to be made between done-in-one stories and serial works though. A self-contained story of some kind probably DOES benefit from, the audience sees the character finally become the person they were meant to be at the end of the story. It might be that they've developed confidence or they understand their responsibilities to their fellow man, or whatever thing they corrected over the course of the film. The point is, that kind of story is built around overcoming character flaws. But once it reaches the point of episodic storytelling, character growth slows down, and the challenges will be more about how a well-defined person deals with new challenging circumstances.

Def full circle to that. In fact seeing the evil Supermen reminded me of that deleted scene showing the origin of the giant being made to be a weapon of mass destruction, only to turn that around obviously, being taught to do more good from Hogarth. It really amazes how much your old video is wrong in so many levels.
Really glad that a proper Superman story finally changed your mind.
Although your thumbnail “they fixed him” sounds inaccurate as he was always a great character and hero.
Some of his best stories are always him being the friendly giant and not some god. Most of his greatest battles are him fighting against his ideologies and whether or not he can save these people. It’s less of a god and more so strong man hoping he has the strength enough to save everyone.
Superman is strongest, but he’s still deep down human. He has so much going with him, it’s kind of insane that your original video deemed him “unrelatable.” Really shows how ignorant you were on his history and characters, with how much you based your opinions on you perception alone.
Speaking of strength, Superman isn’t about him beating the villain. He’s not Goku and stop comparing him to him. His stories are personal, character-driven, battles of ideologies and him just wanting to help.
My Adventures is nothing new as it’s influence from the comics are front and center. I think your issue adaptations of the character and not the character itself.
Also seriously, Death Battle? That’s what you base your opinion on the character? I’m sure you’re were younger at the time but shit dude. That’s embarrassing. I don't feel like the romance is necessarily rushed. They have been obviously attracted to each other from the first time they met, and taking 5 episodes to go from meet cute to first date is more than reasonable, especially considering everything they have already been through together. Throw in the fact that they have literally risked their own lives for the sake of the other multiple times before their first kiss and telling each other, "I love you," and yeah ... I think that makes sense for a couple of horny young adults in their early 20s.
This show made absolutely no pretense that it is as much of a rom-com as it is an action/adventure story. And if looked at from the lens of a rom-com (or at least one that isn't trying to milk the "will they/won't they" tension for as long as they can), the pacing of their relationship is pretty much on pace.

Death Battle got one thing down PERFECTLY when it comes to Superman. He's literally as strong as he needs to be. Does he need to save the day for the story? He'll be able to win the fight. Does a new villain need to be established as PARTICULARLY NASTY? Superman will be completely curb stomped/mind controlled/disintegrated/defeated. He's the guy you look up to in the sky when all hope is lost so you feel like there's a chance for everything to be alright. And if the situation needs to be established as VERY bad and all hope may be lost, he's going to be among the first heroes to fall to the newest threat.
He's literally as strong as the writer needs him to be. And let's face it. NO ONE is immune to bad writing. Superman is famous for it, Spider-Man had that god-awful deal with the devil to WILLINGLY UNDO his marriage to Mary Jane, and even GOKU was nearly killed by a laser to the back after channeling God-Ki for the first time because 'he let his guard down'.
Literally NO hero is immune to the eternal curse of bad writing.
It's like when you watch your favorite anime and a character dies for the STUPIDEST reasons possible, and as a fan you instinctively get annoyed by how badly it was written. But that's the problem as a whole. It doesn't matter what that character would have or should have done in that scenario that a fan would assume they would do to stay alive. The writer made it canonically accurate that the character died because of how they have the final word. I think it just stands out with Superman so much because after having DECADES of different stories by different writers all trying to tell their own stories about him, they had to keep upping the stakes or having him in more bizarre situations to sell comics. Death Battle was kind of screwed the moment they had Superman in those videos because it was either throw all the different versions together into one Superman or have endless comments about how they used the 'Wrong Superman' for the fight. It's the biggest difference between a single character with a specific storyline and personality traits versus a character that's practically being re-written every time someone wants a new Superman-themed ANYTHING. He's a blank slate for writers, almost making every Superman comic written be about a different Superman. As for his famous death, I'm pretty sure the only reason that Superman didn't stay dead was because he's such a recognizable figure it would be financial suicide to keep him dead. Like if Spider-Man was killed after a bad fight and Marvel just moved on and never acknowledged him again. There would be UA-cam Rage and internet flames by a lot of people.
    TL;DR:
Superman is as strong/weak/dumb/smart/emotional/emotionless as the writer needs him to be for whatever comic/show/movie they're writing.
It's simple, idiotic, and probably NEVER going to change. XD

Sucks for them, I always aspire to be a man like Superman, he is my role model, Superman is more relatable than people may think, I dislike how people look at only his powers but not the man, who has to go through struggles like we do but just a different kind of Struggles. He never asked to be Superman, he was born like that, so saying I like characters that trained to become stronger isn't a valid argument here,
Also Spiderman's whole personality is molded around supes, idk you read comics or not but try to see things with a different perspective

if I remember in the comics, Mark didn't have that liar story trope, but instead reveal his identity to her in the first issue. They didn't have to do the liar reveal thing as there is none. in the show it kinda felt force.

She told Mark that she figured out that he was a superhero (not Invincible) a few weeks ago, either when he got hit by a "bus" or due to always being late.
He definitely didn't tell her in the first issue of the comics, that Amber was so clueless she thought Mark was drug dealing. In the comics he revealed his identity to actually explain to her, while in the show he only did it so that Amber would take him back.

when it comes to clark and lois dating and clark coming out as superman, I think it is good that it happened fast because we already know it will happen so a "will they won't they" is worthless and we just wanna see a healthy relationship which media has been avoiding for decades due to writers not knowing how to make that intredting without drama or turning one of the characters into an object but I think modern writers know how to write healthy relationships now because they are realising that relationships do not have to purely define characters and can infact make both characters more of thenselves instead of watering them down, they know that both characters don't have to constantly state they are in a relationship and can both do there own thing while in a relationship.

I feel like the biggest problem facing anyone adapting these well-known characters is the notion that there's a right way and a wrong way to do it. It's true to some extent, bun inevitably, there's going to a a vocal fanbase that rejects any change simply because it's a change. And change is absolutely necessary. You can't just keep recycling the same Superman, Batman, Spider-Man into new stories, let alone retelling the same old stories in the same way over and over again forever. That's a guaranteed way to fail. So reshuffling the basics of Superman is as inevitable as it is impermanent. I love the dynamic of Clark having a boyish crush on Lois, while Lois has a girlish crush on Superman, and has no interest in Clark. I think it speaks to the way people objectify one another, and project their fantasies. Lois is dazzled by the grandiose image of Superman, the "super." So she's blind to the man. That explains why an otherwise sharp reporter can't see the story standing right in front of her.
I love that story. But that story isn't going anywhere, and in the meantime, My Adventures With Superman has its own story to tell. I actually kinda side with Clark on this one. Lois getting angry that he didn't tell her the truth that he was Superman seems controversial, even legit. But I don't think any of us have the right to other people's private identities. If Clark was gay, would Lois have the right to know about this private life that doesn't involve her? Obviously not. Not even if it's 1970 she's writing an article about Stonewall. She could get him fired, or even killed, with a few loose words. She doesn't have the right to hold his life in her hands, just because they're friends, or it would further her career.
Once they're dating, yeah, she has some legitimate right to know more about Clark, inasmuch as his life and his choices affect her. But he keeps his secrets for his safety, and the safety of his family. She doesn't have the right to those secrets just because she wants to know who Superman is, especially if she's made it clear she might publishing his secrets. Much as it seems like an equal relationship, or even unequal in his favor, he's the one with the vulnerability in this particular circumstance. The whole "Don't lie to your friends or your partner" thing doesn't always apply. People have a right to privacy.
I feel like the show handled this fairly well, but it's a storyline that comes up again and again in superhero media (The CW makes whole seasons' worth of drama out of it) and no one really addresses it in a particularly insightful way.

I want a version of Superman where he ends up with Lana instead of Lois. People give good points to why she’s a better choice for Clark than Lois and the writers of justice league Unlimited knew that too from the the first episode of the show where Mongul attaches an alien to Superman which makes him dream about having everything he wants and he’s married to Lana and they have a kid. Which means Clark loves Lana and he doesn’t realize it. They should have established that Clark and Lois broke up some point after the animated series ended and Clark and Lana became a couple and give them senses that confirm this in justice league and justice league unlimited

An interesting thing about this show is that it presents a mystery for both the in universe characters, and the audience EXCEPT the audience and Clark have different perspectives on this mystery.
For the audience WE all know Superman's backstory. 'Parents send him away from a planet just before calamity to a new planet that allows him to have powers'. That's the basic outline, but there's so many versions of this story that we have to pick up clues and figure out the exact details. What was happening on Krypton just before it died out? Why didn't his parents go with him? How many other kryptonians survived and how? Who are the survivors?
Clark on the other hand is also solving that exact mystery but because he doesn't have the prior knowledge the audience has, we watch him solve it badly. The clues he's able to pick up make him come to the conclusion that his parents were evil, Krypton is alive and they expect him to take over Earth.
It both intrigues you as a viewer to gather all the pieces to put it together while also rooting for the protagonist to get on the same page as you.

Something I’m picking up with this iteration of Superman: Lois powers him back up, not the sun. And when people start to say crappy things about him, he’s not as powerful. The last fight scene in episode nine was a little on the nose with this theory, but I’m thinking the writers are making Superman’s powers dependent on how loved he is. When he really loses love, he might turn into one of those “not good Clark” types.

Hmm interesting theory. I could see that play out if done right. Like maybe it mentally wears him down when he sees how hated he is. And when he feels loved and appreciated he gains strength. So that can play with the idea that some of those evil Supermen we saw went bad because of how hated they were or they had all the power but nobody gave them proper support for them to want to be good. Showcasing how unique this Superman is.

Superman never needed to be "fixed" he just needed to be put in the hands of writers who understand the POINT of Superman. The Persona the public sees is a paragon, the "Super" but what they don't often acknowledge is the 'Man'.
My Adventures with Superman not only does what I and others like me have been saying-- put Superman in a modern environment, see how he copes-- but they throw in a Superman who's still figuring himself out on top of that.
He's the best humanity has to offer, the top, something we should all strive for, something -he- is still striving to uphold.
The right way isn't always the easiest, but we can still try. That's what Superman has taught me, and inspired me to do.

No, everyone agrees that Lois jumping off the building is toxic, no matter what iteration you put them in. Like Jimmy had a beautiful response to realizing that Clark is Supes. What Lois did is essentially grabbing your closeted friend and tossing them into the middle of the street before they had a chance to put clothes on. Clark made the right choice hiding his identity especially with Lois making stupid claims like exposing Superman in a Muckraking expose. If anyone had to prove they wouldn't hurt the other it would be Lois for initially lying to Clark and his Boy.

Believe it or not, within the context of the DC universe as a whole, Superman isn't that busted.
    For example, the Flash.
    He's more busted than Superman.
One version of the Flash brought himself back from the dead.
As in his was destroyed, his soul went to the afterlife, and he came back. Literally made himself a new body Dr. Manhatten style.
Another version of Flash had the ability to increase and decrease the speed of an object. So he touch a person, drain them of their speed, and leave them in a stasis.
Another version of Flash was using his powers to perform an Infinite Mass Punch. That amount of power in that punch was equal to the Big Bang.
Another version of Flash saw a villain steal a little girl's lollipop. The villain had the ability to jump to different dimensions and time periods. Flash found him in every location, Loony Toons style, including the end of time itself and made the dude give back the lollipop.

I think that the tech enemies are cool, it shows humans are amazing in a diffrent way without superpowers, it is not like this show will suddenly turn every other show and movie's villains into mecha godzilla or anything, this shows version of superman doesn't habe to be connected to all future dc shows.
Also tech has always been a great thing for superman because if its a robot he doesn't have to worry about killing an actual person unless the ai values its own life because then killing it would be evil, having tech weapons allows superman to destroy them without hurting the criminal or villain, Superman is learning to get gud so making the enemies easier to deal with in a moral less violent way making it easier for superman to preach goodness being good is good for the whole "better tomorrow" "dreams are important and help us build a greater society then in the past as humanity is always growing and becoming less and less shitty as time goes on and people are generally good now actually" messages of superman.
the tech also makes this show more unique as they are all diffrent versions of the villains then what you would normally see and it is cool to have diffrent versions of the same character, it makes superman stand out and feel more alone being the only one that is diffrent, other then his father and facist enemies.

At his core he's just a good man
Dude can be the most powerful being in the world, which he is by the way, and in the DC universe one of the most powerful.... And still keep his humanity like showing in this show
