I remember my mom saying that this was on the radio while my dad was laying on the couch and she said your dad was at peace...that was the last song he heard before he died that night from cancer, still brings tears to me .
HOW SAD, IT IS TO LISTEN TO A SONG AND SOME IS SO SICK THAT WE KNOW THE PERSON , MOTHER , FATHER,BROTHER OR SISTER IS DYING BUT U DON'T KNOW THE HOUR, THE MINUTE OR THE DAY OR NIGHT. THEN TO SEE YOUR LOVE ONE DIE. AND TO HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO A FAVORITE SONG, OF COURSE U WILL NEVER FOR GET THAT MOMENT AND THAT SONG. MY NOW DEPARTED HUSBAND FAVORITE SONG (MAY HE REST IN PEACE) AND MAY YOUR LOVE ONE ALSO REST IN PEACE ALSO. WAS BAND ON THE RUN. BY PAUL MCARTHY AND WINGS. HE USED TO LOVE THAT SONG. AND WHEN WE PLAYED IT OR HEAR IT. HE WANTED EVERYONE TO HEAR ALSO. I GUESS WE ALL HAVE CONNECTION WITH 🎵🎶🎵.
If you don't know the story of Vincent and Theo, his brother, look it up. It's a great story of how Theo cared for Vincent through all of his strange and eventful life. He backed his art which no one understood at the time and kept him in supplies though none of his paintings except maybe one sold in his life time, but Theo knew. Theo died about six months after Vincent. His job on earth was done. Thank you Theo, he was my favorite painter, hands down.
You related that so wonderfully. I am a musician and an artist. Vincent Van Gogh is my favorite artist. Don McClean is one of my favorite "musical" artists, and "Vincent" is one of my favorite songs. I think that it is truly a musical "oil painting." BTW...my absolute favorite song of Don McClean is "Empty Chairs." Anyway, fantastic comment by you.
A beautifully crafted song from Don McLean. His voice is just exquisite here and when you add in Chet Atkins guitar playing...wow what result! Truly awesome display of genius at work. Thank you.
I didn't really listen to this song for it's first 45 years of life. I wondered if I ever would. Then I did with a major touch of envy. If ever a song deserved a wide audience this was one, I thought.
Just days ago, the Musicians Hall of Fame site here on UA-cam, ran an interview with Don McLean. He opened up more than he usually does in interviews and talked in glowing terms of his love of the Nashville music scene and his long friendship with Chet Atkins.
One of the greatest songs literally written in the 70s and performed by two amazing artists. So sad so poignant so beautiful all the same time. Damn this song always makes me cry❤️
Ofcourse Dad. I distinctly remember you singing a few bars of this song when I was much younger. I don't know why I remember that, just one of those youthful impressions that one gains when affected by something beautiful.
Some people talk of being 'touched by angels'... I don't know if that's true, but if you were asked to prove it, you could use THIS performance to help make your case... Peace out!
While Chets guitar is.. well Chets guitar.. beautiful.. his volume should been cut down significantly. It's poetry of the words that needs to be upfront. Guitar should have been softer accompaniment..
Both are spectacular , but unfortunately I definitely feel Chet somewhat overdid this , Don perfected this song and I think so much more could have been done , shame really , but not a bad thing in all. Bless them.
@James Sero I do agree with you , However I feel that Chet definitely could have broke things up more his end and should have taken a more background approach , I'm not saying it's a bad version but both of their own versions were just miles....... Better. I respect and love these people but this one didn't work I feel.. but hey ho :)

How touching.❤️
@Robert Fedyk. Ah. How very sorrowful. How long ago was this? Seems a long, long time ago.
@@thihal123 about 20 years now, time goes by way to fast
@@RFedyk , oh that is a long time ago. My mother passed away almost 12 years ago. How fast time goes.
When a truly great poet arrives with a rare musical talent... Don McLean
I love how how Don McLean just sits and watches in pure amazement as Mr. Guitar does what he did better than anybody else in the world.
I played records on the radio for more than 40 years an this is my favorite.
It’s Wonderful!
When this song came out I had my best friend Vincent who moved from Perth Amboy to Florida
I remember this song whenever I think of my lost son!
I too lost a son, and listening to this song brought back his memory, and tears to my eyes.
@@lawrencesmeen522 bless you both.

CSODÁLATOS! Very lovely and in a way sad story, but luckily it fits/suits many others too. BEAUTIFUL SONG.
Right on!

Thank you for sharing this!
Thank you, Theo.
Still a wow after decades. I can see Van Gogh’s colorings in this poetry. Masterful strings.
Two great musicians (and songwriter). It's a shame we don't remember them better than we do. This is just incredible.
Chet Atkins voicings..soo beautiful truly lovely rendition...
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful just beautiful. Thank you!!!!
Michael Herrell
One of the greatest songs ever written.😇😇😇
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written, a song about an incredible artist 🎨, Vincent Van Gogh.
Agreed!
They would not read it, they’re not reading still. Perhaps they never will.
Such a beautiful song, beautiful poetry. I always get an emotional reaction to it.
Best song about a mad genius ever. Incredible.
I truly believe that don McLean brought his A game, when given the chance to sing his masterpiece with the exquisite backing of Chet Atkins. Magic.
Yes I think he just slowed it down a bit so that we could appreciate each single note and word, exquisite ❤

IT HAD A VERY WIDE AUDIENCE WHEN IT CAME OUT.
That was awesome! Vocally he sounded at the top of his game there.
Chet Atkins was the Jimi Hendrix of country music.
Pure magic! What a gift to have been in that audience for this performance. Great song, great talent, great performers. 🎶❤
this needs sooo many more views. God bless these bros
Shame on all radios they dont play $Don's songs!!!!! .he is the best.!!!!

I feel the same like gerry findon. I hear this version and cry. This touches my soul so deeply.
The story tellers are the best artist
Great song by Don. Then to have Chet play on it with him, what a treat. Really beautiful.
Musically this is the most beautiful version I have ever heard
Chet's guitar is like a vocal harmony.
2 of the ALL TIME GREATS at work.
My absolutely favorite song of all time and this rendition is the most perfect version I have EVER heard
And Chet's arrangement on guitar is really sweet too.
YES, THIS SONG IS BEAUTIFUL AND SOUNDS GREAT WITH THE LATE CHED ATKINS ( MAY HE REST IN PEACE) PLAYING HIS GUITAR SO WONDERFULLY 🙏 😢 💔 ❤ 😞 💙
Wow...just amazing rendition. 👏 so glad I found it.
This is one of my all time favorite songs. I love both versions, but not so sure I like the merged. But, still beautiful. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
So great don to have such insight and compassion for vincent. Beautiful and of course chets perfection.
My eyes gently weep
Nicely done! (Don's pacing in HIS live early performances of this song, is spot on! Despite the contrary of others.) :)
Wow......what a beautiful rendition.
So beautiful!!!
The Original versions l heard at two UK Concerts and in Amsterdam still the best
This is one of those timeless performances
Just beautiful !
MR VINCENT VANGO ♥THANKS YOU TO GREAT TALENTED 👍MEN .HE IS SMILING IN HEAVEN.

Great song; Best version...
Beautiful song
Dos genios, homenajeando al gran pintor VINCENT. Sigo emociondome como la primera vez que escuché esta hermosa canción, hace ya bastantes años.
Still my favorite singer!
WOW
BEAUTIFUL ❤
Two greats side by side.
And Vincent somewhere to their side perhaps..
Music legends.
Just lost a friend of 60 yrs. Vincent "Donny" Doerr. but everyone did love'im. Sing it Donny.
for some reason this song makes me want to cry. It's so beautiful
Me too!
Why do you say 'for some reason'? It's a sad song, it's not like it's Party Rock Anthem
This deserves 300M views
Thank you, dear Vishal. Just wonderful, divine, loving and touching.
Ofcourse Dad. I distinctly remember you singing a few bars of this song when I was much younger. I don't know why I remember that, just one of those youthful impressions that one gains when affected by something beautiful.

Weeping at the end.

@@stephen_pfrimmer They could have done better without the singing.
65k views? it should be 65 million
why do i cry everytime :\
amazing
Almost six minutes long, and no dancers, no flash bombs, no big production at all!!
Just a great song and fantastic players.
I love how he can't get his eyes off Chet's fingerboard.
Hard to believe this song is 50+ years old!
RIP Ralph peer and chet Atkins 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Great sucess music
Brilliant !
nunca te cansas de oir esta canción . You never get bored of listening this song
#PricelessMasterpiece... ♥️
Blown away.
Wow!
Very very beautifull
What a treat
beautiful
Almost making fun of everybody by hammering the guitar at the very end...
He rocks!

If this is not genius, the word has no meaning.
Hermoso
“First Don Maclean had a hit with it.” Ya think so?!!!
👏👏👏❤️👏👏👏
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Vangoh .....💝
super
I can't help but think that Don Mclean is singing about himself in Vincent.
The way I see it, he sings about the pain that all artists know at one point or another.
While Chets guitar is.. well Chets guitar.. beautiful.. his volume should been cut down significantly. It's poetry of the words that needs to be upfront. Guitar should have been softer accompaniment..
Church!
O bucurie a mea Vincent a lui Don Mclean !
I think Don's guitar is adequate. Doesn't need anything else.
Oh My God!
They sound good together, even if they both would be better alone.
God you just want to cry
This video has no sound???
👌🏽
I prefer the original guitar accompaniment by McLean.
Yes original Is better.
Atkins can do another version of the song with his guitar.
But with McLean singing it is best to leave the guitar playing to him.
👍🏴😎

love Chet, but here you cannot try to outshine the vocalist
