  • Red Garland's Trio 1957 release on Prestige is a straight-ahead classic jazz album. It features Paul Chambers on Bass and Art Taylor on drums. AAA Lacquers Cut from the Original Master Tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio and all-analog mastering from the original tapes by Matthew Lutthans at Cohearent Audio. Let's drop the needle on it and see how it sounds.

All Prestige albums were in mono up to April/May 1958.

I have the OJC press of Workin' with Miles Davis. Might have to get this one too.

Yes I've done the same thing and assumed albums were stereo ! But I'm glad I wasn't aware as I would have missed out on too much great music.

A stereo recording can also be a pair of mics placed in any number of patterns in a room. So the drums could have 2 or three mics panned center. Bass with mic panned center. Piano with 1 or two mics panned center and a pair of room mics panned left and right.
Those early hard panned records were panned hard to demonstrate ‘stereo’. Im an engineer and we could spend hundreds of hours defining what ‘stereo’ is.
But after all- shouldnt it be about the music? The recording and performance?. Is everything clear? Yes.
