- Ireland has been gripped by the mysterious disappearance of a beloved dolphin.
Fungie, a solitary bottlenose, appeared in County Kerry's Dingle Harbour in 1983 and never left. He quickly became a major tourism draw in the area, and enchanted generations of foreign tourists and Irish visitors alike.
Now he has suddenly vanished. Local boatmen say he has never previously been gone for more than a few hours in 37 years.

I would say he has passed away off old age a dolphin to spend their whole life in one area is rare, They need a statue off him in his honour
There is a statue of him in dingle town
If he died would they not of found his body somewhere such as floating on top of the water or laying at the bottom of the sea bed. It's weird how there is no trace of him.
@@Emmet21982 His body would have been completley eaten by crabs and other bottom feeders within days, even if the could somehow scan the entire sea floor they wouldn't find anything.
What a sad story, let us all hope he's just gone for a short break but if he doesn't come back then let's celebrate fungie's wonderful life.
The year gets worse and worse
Oh no. I went to Ireland just to see him.
Weird video to like but I liked the fact he gave so many people pleasure! Bless him 🙏
Economy was reliant on one dolphin. He gave many decades of service, Rest in Peace.
We were there just over two weeks ago and got lucky as we saw Fungie. Never saw a dolphin in real and it touched me. Amazing experience and feeling sad now.
There's a suicide helpline online bro
Never hurt anyone , just brought love and joy . World can be so cruel . Be safe 💝 .
I'm not usually a bleeding heart but hearing this news and learning about Fungie's history with the town made me very sad. I hope Fungie is doing well and returns to Dingle.
This is old news he was spotted a week or to ago by a local fisherman that regonised his mallet from the distinct scars.
Someone thought thwy might have seen him however there was no other sighting and the search has now unfortunately been called off
We love u Fungie
Couldn’t handle another six week lockdown, don’t blame him, hope he’s somewhere nice and warm
Fungie and Shergar just hiding out their days
Monkey Tennis uh oh the UVF want him now but he shall never be handed over
No tourists no fungie - he will be back when the craic returns
I will miss him even though i never saw him RIP fungi 😔
They didn't put a tracking device on him?
He’s gone into isolation
Hopeful thinking sea currents may have caused Fungie to swim further out to sea to feed on fish
God bless him
Fungi wherever u are we all love u and I hope u can return soon ❤🐬
Oh he will be back
☘️💚☘️ Awesome story from across the pond. 🤙😎☘️💚☘️
The most amazing part is how did he put up with the people of co Kerry for that length of time
Very sad. 😔
They have gone to Sweden for a hair cut and a beer.
no fungie can,t see tourists going there sad to see fungie gone
He's just self isolating!😁
Usually people avoid fungi
I believe the last thing they said was "so long. And thanks for all the fish.".
I hate that this joke got me a giggle
Depressing comments . Never seen such bad jokes
I don't understand the mentality of the people who are making these so called jokes. They must be disturbed or something.
Excuse me the most dolphin of dingle county Kerry has died. Please don't rub salt in the wound and no the grieving of this beautiful bottle nosed dolphin is a loss of gods creatures. I am sure everyone has their own way to accept their loss. No need to be racist about Kerry and the whole republic of Ireland.
Who named him Funghi and why?
2020 has gone too far.
😭
He had underlying health conditions
Along with 30% of the population of every western country.
He’s over in arran Scotland
"Mysterious" oh please
Things die. It's sad-ish
I miss fungie
The dolphin probably got fed up with all of your fake news ,and headed out to sea looking for deeper waters.
He just wanted to dodge the lockdown
Maybe he wants to just find other dolphins
Rip fungi 😘
2020 guys what next
I seen him at Sligo
Ireland isn’t really ‘gripped’
I seen him in Sligo
Finding Fungie 🧐
It's time for him to retire
he could've migrated
The rumor I heard from someone from Ireland, was that a man was denied a license to give boat tours to see him. He supposedly said something along the lines of "If I can't give Fungie tours, then nobody can". Fungie went missing shortly after.
Proof? I need to know
@@morgankoehne5902 I can't provide proof. My brother in-law is from that area in Ireland and that's what people he knows were saying.
@@mirandafriske4525 were they lying?
@@theastonvillaseal585 I really don't see why they would lie about it. It doesn't change anything.
It is very rare for a DOLPHIN to spend so much time in one area ....
It is probably because the KINGDOM aka co. kerry is majestic
FUNGIE probably died but his legacy never will. 🖐
Awww
He very was old to be honest
What if all these years poor fungie has been trying to ask humans for food and has been slowly starving to depth while everyone in the area have just exploited him for commercial porpoises?
For 40 years?? Yeah i doubt that. Dolphins can OBVIOUSLY feed themselves. And they are simply in a boat riding around dingle harbour, fungie goes up to the boat. Thats NOT exploiting
Caught by Chinese fisherman. Or perhaps........Hitchhiker’s guide to the universe! And thanks for the fish! Maybe fungi is visiting relatives in Florida. Flippers old neighborhood.
He’s just social distancing duhhh 🙄
Maybe its in quarantine
Curiously his rape of Julian cope is not mentioned
R.I.P. Fungi
He gave up on humanity
Hi
Old boy.
Fungie has sadly taken his own life
Dolphins are HIGHLY INTELLIGENT CREATURES. ANIMALS DO NOT TAKE THEIR OWN LIVES,. ONLY HUMAN BEINGS TAKE THEIR OWN LIVES
Lemmings...
Lockdown and take a look at this people please
What??
Due to ocean tier 3, Willy died of Covid 19.
Kidnapped
Wtf fungi gone AWOL
Go find that 🐬 and feed it
...
It's been eaten by Shergar.
So those boat owners (who’ve been benefiting off of him for decades) just stopped feeding him because the tourists were gone? That’s the saddest thing
It's dead jim ?
Maybe it got Covid19
He got the virus
I thought they "biologists and veterinarians" put GPS to most of the dolphins and whales ect. Shame they couldn't find it maybe he get tired of cold waters and moved to the Caribbean sea😉
Oh no he’s committed Fungicide
That's thing is so old it's dead
