    Taj,
    As a 69 year old guitarist who has had the joy and frustration of playing 61 of these 69 years, I just have to tell you that I first became aware of you at age 15 when I saw you for the first time on public television. In my eyes you are such an accomplished, multi instrumentalist and vocalist. To watch you perform in so many different settings with such ease of delivery has been awe inspiring and joyful. It is you that caused me to toss my pick out the window years ago and become more aligned with my guitar. I always get the feeling that you are right here in the room with me when I watch you. I’ve also had great pleasure in playing your songs on many occasions. Thank you sir, for the pureness of your music and soul.

      You got to understand Taj's roots....they aren't American. But also Blues roots ain't just from Africa. You know the secret ingredient?

    This was from the Martin Scorcese documentary series on PBS on the Blues. There's a box set for the series, 2003 (Hip-O Records, Martin Scorsese Presents the Blues: A Musical Journey.)

    I think a lot of old blues was actually recorded this way. You hear the guys call out things like "play it long time" and "kick it 6" when only one person is noted on the jacket as playing.

    Taj ... doesn't play well with others? Came in and played right over the top of Corey's break.

    • @Odin029
      @Odin029 7 років тому +1

      Oh I don't know. Taj likes to do his own thing, but he's paid his dues. Corey Harris is an amazing artist and does lots of stuff to keep the blues from becoming a museum piece, but he's still the apprentice when he's playing with a guy like Taj Mahal. I go back to the video of Buddy Guy playing on stage with Son House. Buddy keeps his eyes on Son's hands almost the entire performance because he knows its not about him, no matter how good he was, he was trying to follow Son to make sure the master sounded good.

  • @petergolding1
    @petergolding1 8 років тому

    Taj doesn't show much respect for Corey !. Just overshadows rather than playing with him !Taj's loss and ours!

    • @Ganzie2000
      @Ganzie2000 7 років тому +1

      This is just right no need to muddle stuff up. No gimmicks Corey plated his part. Subtle but effective.
