Those boxes are a brilliant idea! We've been struggling with how to organize our freezer for almost a year now, I can't believe it never occurred to me that this was an option
I love this content. Not because I have a chest freezer, because I don't have one (which I think could be a reason not many people watch). But, I love it because I enjoy the clever solution you make/find for all kinds of home life. I put this in the bank for the future. Please share an update on the baskets as time passes.👏
Here I am at almost 2am thinking of what to do with my freezer chaos now that we are also eating more at home and buying in bulk. When cleaning the freezer out, I realized I lost some seafood that freezer burned at the bottom. Groceries are too expensive to do that again. Your freezer appears the same style as mine, so thank you for this video!
I've got a huge chest freezer (at least double yours) and I struggled to organize it as well. Finding sturdy containers that make efficient use of the space in addition to being easy to move around when full of frozen food isn't easy! I ended up with those plastic milk crates and double-stacking them. They almost stretch the width of the freezer; the space left is just enough to slide in loaves of bread or pizza boxes or frozen dinners. But they're heavy to lift and they don't have handles, just hand notches on the sides (always worried about pinching my fingers!). I'm going to check my measurements to see if these will work better.
I actually just watched the video you mentioned during your into before coming here! My biggest worry was what you said about air flow but also making sure that the baskets properly interlock to avoid crushing the products in the one below. Great video and thanks for including so much information about the materials
I love the fact that you addressed the type of plastic to use! That was actually a concern of mine when looking up organization tips. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this video. I have a large chest freezer and it might be the most aggravating thing in my house. I’ve tried organizing, but chose really terrible containers. This video has popped lightbulbs off in my head. Thank you & thanks for the Butcherbox idea. I created a cart and shared with my wife.
We got a freezer about the same size as yours during the pandemic. I got some vented stackable baskets but they’re a little small and there is wasted space because of the lip they have. I might check what kind of plastic they are a compare to yours. I also need space for pizzas, bread, and a Costco bag of tater tots. I actually have some bagged ice and cold packs in the bottom as “ballast” because we didn’t have enough stuff to fill the whole space well. Might be time for a reorg. Just need to remember to wear my gloves this time!
These Amazon baskets look really good! I have been using the buckets recommended by Alejandra for 3 years now and they also work really well but i paid a tonne of $$ to get them shipped from the container store in USA to me in Aus so its so great to find an alternative i can get from amazon to recommend to family and friends!. I can say the ones recommended by alejandra havent cracked or been damaged in anyway from sitting the the freezer and being lifted up and down over the last 3 years and i dont believe my freezing has been negatively affected by the containers how having holes for ventilation but they dont actually interlock or stack, they just sit on top of each other just in case anyone is looking for feedback on those. Great video Kay! Always love your content! ❤
Great idea! My mom had a large chest freezer when I was a kid and I’m sure things at the bottom got forgotten pretty often. We almost bought an upright freezer but now that our kids are grown we don’t need that space. We do have a second fridge in our garage for holidays when we need extra space. Thanks for another great video! 😊
Thanks for sharing! I love that your bins have handles and are vented! We have a small chest freezer as well. Thanks for sharing the link! I might have to try Butcher Box too!
Brilliant ! We don’t have a chest freezer in our flat, but my parents do (a really, really big one) ... I never have ideas for Christmas presents, so now I’m going to look for PP baskets. 😊
Also yes, chicken thighs are the best! They actually taste like something, not teddy bear stuffing (which I think is how Julia Child described white meat American chicken).
I found Alejandra’s video years ago and bought the blue bins. I don’t love them but they were the best option I could find to only have to pull out one bucket to get what I need.
Hello Kay! We don't have a chest freezer. However I do organize the bottom drawer-style freezer using breathable, color-coded, reusable grocery bags. Pink for chicken, red for other proteins, greens for veggies, etc. Maybe someday we'll get ourselves a chest freezer. ☺️
LOVE the freezer organization!!! I don't have a chest freezer, but my mom does, and always has. Guess who gets to go hunting for things in it? Yep! How many times have I almost fallen in searching for something at the bottom that was just over on the other side (I was trying to be thorough!)? Going to see if I can convince her to use something like these. You should link those baskets in a vlog for all of your unorganized freezer friends! Thanks for sharing.
Was watching Pat sloan's quilting channel this morning and she mentioned she listens to your channel while quilting. So I hopped over to check you out. I absolutely loved this video and it was much needed. Look forward to watching more.
Perfect timing, Kay! My husband and I just got our first chest freezer and it's exactly the same as yours. So excited to try out your awesome tips as always :).
Thank you. Love the baskets for use in the freezer. Going to check dimensions of our freezer to see if I can get the same. And yes I know what you mean..... I could live on chicken thighs and nothing else. I buy chicken breast for my husband and dont know why he prefers it. 😊
I’m 5’3 and I fell into the watermelon barrel in our local grocery reaching for what I thought was the best one at the bottom. Needless to say I won’t do that again. So I will be very careful reaching into my 10 cubic freezer. Thanks for the heads up 😀😂😄
I don’t own a chest freezer and probably never will. Yet, I had to watch your video since I love your content. I liked how you paid tribute to Alexandra of Alexandra TV… she’s the OG!
This is an excellent video, thank you so much! We are buying a chest freezer now as we are buying bulk beef to save money, and so many things in your video are well thought out and stuff I would not have thought of, I appreciate this in-depth info so much
I used to use plastic bins in my chest freezer but they got brittle and cracked. Now I use cloth boxes with handles from a local grocery store. They are sturdy and strong and keep the proteins separate.
This is fantastic! Just what I was looking for 😊 I have a large chest freezer we use constantly that I desperately need to implement this solution right away. Thank you, just subscribed! ❤
Hi Kay. Thank you for this video. I just ordered the baskets you used, from Amazon. I am 5'2" and I can barely reach the bottom of my freezer. These baskets with handles are really going to help. Excellent idea!
Congratulations on moving your family to an animal protein diet. Cutting down and out the processed foods, seed oils, sugar, and fructose will improve your family’s physical, mental, and social health. I love this idea and will be measuring my chest freezer to order these baskets from my animal protein. Thank you.
I love this and my freezer is smaller and I found wire baskets that work great and I did like you separated the meats from the chicken and Turkey and pork products…now I need to look into butcher block…
It seems like every time I get the freezer set up so the bags and boxes can be read and the newest purchases go under or behind the older items, hubs gets his mitts in there and tosses things wherever! He dislikes bins, however he seems to not like any kind of order in the chest freezer either. sigh
😮😮😮 I love this idea!! We have a deep freezer. And I am the one to dig into it to find out what we have and don't. This would make it so much easier for me. I keep debating whether or not to do mail in order meat or sea foods. As I live in Boston too, I remember when Butcher Box started here, if that is the same company I wonder? At any rate, I will put this to do on my organizing the dining room list as thY is where the deep freezer is, thanks Ms. Kay! May be the free chicken breasts we're given due to your order as a bonus🎉
You mentioned 3 different types of plastic. How do you know which plastic a basket is made of since it just says plastic? I want to use those in my freezer as well since the dollar store baskets aren’t working well for me
I was going to subscribe to a monthly meat box subscription like Butcher Box, then I discovered my freezer (over fridge) is much smaller than I thought and it's already almost full. I am now looking for a countertop-sized freezer which opens from the front (not the top) and has wire drawers imside to stack things, but apparently those are not a thing in the U.S.
I got the smaller ones because those are the ones that fit in my freezer! Measure the interior before you do anything! You may find a different set that work better!
Out of curiosity how does the salmon taste. So far, the Costco salmon beats grocery stores in taste. I agree that chicken thighs taste the best. Thank you for suggesting those baskets
I like the Butcherbox salmon better than the Whole Foods salmon which is weird to me. I know it’s better to eat wild salmon and I didn’t find the frozen one from Whole Foods very tasty or appealing. I haven’t tried the Costco version though! I’m curious!
Be sure to measure the interior dimensions of your freezer. I have a Hisense 7 cu ft freezer and the bottom is only about 19.5” wide, so these baskets (at 10.47” in width) don’t fit.
We are considering to subscribe to Butcherblock, and would like to get a freezer to get in our small kitchen. Can you tell me what the measurements are on the one you have. Thanks

Cut for cut, Butcher Box is more affordable than buying high quality cuts individually in a store. Grass-fed and grass finished beef is very expensive. You're still allowed to go to a grocery store.
