Marek Edelman survived the war and became a doctor (a fine cardiologist) in Communist Poland, a democratic opposition activist, and later a renowned public figure in free post-1989 Poland. He passed away on October 2, 2009, aged 90.
He was a Lodzer and lived in that city after the war. There’s an education centre in the old ghetto area named after him as well as various murals.
And his grandson is a wide receiver for the new england Patriots named Julian.
And he stayed a Bundist to the end!
He maintained a consistent anti-Zionist position, never agreeing with the Israeli government’s position that they were the sole bearers of the memory and legacy of the Ghetto fighters. As well as being a passionate dissident against the Communist government in Poland, he always stood for the Palestinians’ national rights and their right of return. The Israeli government always refused to acknowledge the major part Edelman and the Bundists played in the Ghetto uprising and did not send anyone to his funeral.
@@rudebwoyben The Israeli government has never claimed to be the "sole bearer of the memory" of any event. Obviously, anyone who was there would possess a memory of it. Stop posting drivel.

Thank you for the 3 parts on the uprising.
My great grandfather's brother Mendel Oppenheim (72 years old at the time) built a bunker as a preparation to the uprising, where he was hiding with his sister Anna Oppenheim (aged 58), his daughters Judith Oppenheim (aged 33) and Malka Hoffman (aged 45) and her family - husband Gershon and two daughters Hava (aged 20) and Ida (aged 25) , also Mendel's son Fred Oppenheim (aged 43) with his wife Rachel (aged 38) with two children a boy and a girl aged 7 and 9. The bunker was discovered by the Germans in the first few days of the uprising, all of the family was dragged out, put against a wall and shot. I have an eye witness report. For many people this is not history, but a leaving pain. May their souls rest in peace, their blood revenged!!!!
The irony: The ghetto got bunker materials beforehand from the Germans to prepare defends against air raids.
Do not think for one minute that this could never occur again.
@Rick Hall you're not alone on that
@@TheMoose126 not alone by long shot.
@@androidash6901 Well, how else would you describe their actions? Pc sweet talking..?
Yes, and those pesky European-style socialists are at it again...this time USA!
Lol, what emotional women in this thread.
Just think of how well they could have held out if they just had enough weapons. Considering they only had a few, the fact that they resisted for so long is amazing.
I knew that this wouldn’t have a happy ending, but this story must be told, and few tell it better than Dr. Mark Felton
In light of attempts by the Far Right and modern day fascists to alter or erase the history of Nazi crimes against humanity these YT videos serve an incredibly valuable source of fact. God bless you Mr. Felton.
I read the book. In the seventies…as a child. Hurt my soul, my heart. But I have never forgotten this book. It was md

Th impersonality of of the whole book, is what crushed my soul, the narrative, the facts, surgically scrutinized and dramatized in print, and I am fourteen. I am ashamed of my whole planet and that is when I woke up. I will be sixty soon. Please, wake up!
Thank you Mark Felton for doing a 3 part series on the Warsaw Ghetto uprising.
Yes! That why there is always a push for gun control,
if the bad guy's are the only ones with guns leaves evil people in a comfortable position.

The man The legend The Felton
is it a bird is it a plane no it's dr felton
Definitely
Great story
Yeah,"The Felton".Lets feltonize the World😉🤟🤭
You mean "the troll, the myth, the legend" 🤣🤣
Superb conclusion to the series. This uprising has fascinated me since reading Leon Uris' "Mila-18". Hats off again, Dr. Felton!
Just discovered this channel today and after watching the first two parts, here comes the third. Excellent, vivid narration that brings up the visuals of the event in a clear way.
Welcome your going to enjoy it.
This is a great channel. you've gotta lot of catching up to do, but you'll love it!
Dude you're in for a treat.
Wow you got very lucky to have the series you happened to pick to introduce you to the channel, finished the very day you watch them. Get ready for a very long period of quality content to catch up on. I also suggest drachinifel if you like the style. Drach focuses exclusively on naval history, which I hitherto didnt know I was so interested in
@@amaccama3267 Thanks for the comments everyone. Did more deepdiving of videos on this channel and you are all correct...first class production and detail that opens up historical events properly. Great stuff!
It also showed what determined people even with limited weapons in the face of evil can do.
@Albert Strauss The alternative was zero enemy dead?
@Albert Strauss LOL so true.....
They haven’t done much...
They fired a few shots, exploded large bomb, killed a few soldiers and the rest of the "uprising" were sitting for weeks buried deep in the ground in their dugouts, dungeons and manholes of sewer system being removed one by one by Germans.
@@jerzydyko3640 exactly - the ‘uprising’ is way overrated. It was almost nothing...
"There are two types of strengths in the world the strength of having something to protect and the strength of having nothing to loose."
Warsaw used to be called the "Paris of the East" before the War. All but destroyed by the Germans.
But I tought that Bucharest was the Paris of the East or the little Paris. 🤔
Oh wait, actually it's a list of 24 cities with that nickname.
So was Beirut until the Islamist's took it over
@@toothpick4649 Yes, Beirut was the Monte Carlo of the middle east and was the place to be in the 60's and early 70's.
Wait. In a short time they’ll going to call Paris “Warsaw of the West”.

Edelman later fought in Warsaw Uprising and after the war stayed in Poland and became a noted cardiologist. Was part of Solidarity movement. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marek_Edelman
Thank you for that link.
Mark Edelman was unique person. Great role model. I've read his memories from the ghetto.
Bravery beyond comprehension
The courageous fighters of the Warsaw ghetto will never be forgotten
All three parts were excellent examples of the educational content of the highest quality!
BTW, the Operation Bürkl, or the special combat action Bürkl, mentioned at 9:09 was a part of the larger Operation Heads ('Główki' in Polish, which is a diminutive form of the word for 'heads', in this case referencing the Totenkopf insignia), which was a series of assassinations of Nazi officials carried out by the Home Army.
It's nice that it was all British doing. Right? Felton won't mention that it was all paid for by the Polish gov in exile in gold.
Jurgen Stroop's diary of the battle condemned him.
Good!
He got what he deserved!
Immensely disturbing crimes, among the worst in living memory. And yet, I feel great respect, and even positivity, knowing that people stood up in the face of evil...
…And said No.
Thank you for making this series, may they never be forgotten
Let us not forget the Ukrainians also stood up to the Communists some 15 years before and paid for it much more dearly. Socialism in all its forms is brutal.
@@deanpd3402 Not Socialism itself but it is often hijacked by fundamentals who do terrible things, The Ukrainians fought hard, I feel they got a bad deal
@Ben Hooper one name Sophie Scholl, men shall be ashamed of themselves, thinking their all big and bad, however a young woman was bolder than them, standing up in the face of evil like that. She is in heaven now, may God have mercy on us all.

Extreme bravery in the face of overwhelming opposition.
It amazing how much a image can make you feel and bring you so close to the victims
Lucky for you -you will never know.
So painful to look at the faces of those women towards the end of the video. Defeated and yet so brave and proud, only to be gassed later. My salute to those brave souls who did not kneel in front of a great tyrant.
Much respect to Mr. Felton. Thank you.

The soldier on the right with MP28 at 8:58 and also shown in the famous photo with the boy was Rottenführer (between a private first class and a corporal) Josef Blösche. He was executed in East Germany in 1969.
I wish I lived next door to Mark Felton
Excellent detailed analysis and presentation once again, Mark. A very nuanced article as usual. Thanks.
So impressed with all your knowledge of everything you present to your audience. Thank you, Dr Felton!
Really enjoyed this series of war stories, thanks Dr. Felton. We should all know about the bravery of those who stood firmly in the face of tyranny and oppression.
I’ve been living for these updates!!
Excellent video. Very interesting, informative and worthwhile video.
Please do a video on the 1944 Warsaw uprising it’s similar to this one but on a huge scale.
He would have to do 20 videos like that...
Great idea, though hearing about the Wola massacre kills me every time I read about it.
Good idea, because the russians was not far from Warsaw in 1944 and wait to the end of the uprising!
I simply love your videos…the info they provide is amazing and your pronunciation of the German commanders really add to the authenticity. Thanks again
the colourised photos of the ghetto uprising just makes it so much more real only makes it feel like yesterday
I’m saving these up and binging a brick of them at once. Can’t wait.
What an excellent series of video. So detailed and informative. Thank you Mark.
Another great lesson. Thank you Dr Felton.
Thank you Dr Felton. Informative and inspiring.
I definitely think them using the German's own uniforms to launch ambushes against them + move around was super smart. Considering they had little to no training, it's impressive from a guerilla war pov!
You're making it sound like disguising yourself in a uniform is some high level thinking.
@@irollastoney.899 yeah no you're absolutely right, it's not revolutionary or anything ofc. I just appreciated the intelligence of them, along with me thinking about how it'd be good to launch ambushes with people already on location but in German uniforms n such. That's why I made my statement the way I did. It's just the way it was applied or could be applied
What a bizarre initial reply to this, also since they were just civilians war crimes don’t apply. Wear enemy uniforms as much as you like! (Just don’t get seen by the Yanks)
Amazing stuff Mr Felton as usual.
Excellent to listen to on the drive to work. Thank you Dr. Felton for another first rate war story!
Well done good sir, this series was very well done. Also enjoyed your analysis of continuing German resistance after the surrender of the 6th army at Stalingrad. Did not know that was even a thing👍🏻
I know its gonna be a good morning when I see a new mark felton video on my homepage.
That was an excellent series that was well told.
Thank you for your wonderful channel! I’m sure I speak for many when I say the lesser known ghetto uprisings would be an excellent subject for future videos.
Oustanding series. Thanks.
Great series, thank you for sharing your diligent research.
If anyone is curious about how to pronounce Stroop’s name, it is “shtrope”. Basically an “sh” sound in front of “trope”, the “ope” being pronounced as in the word “rope”. Hope that helped somebody. If not, sorry for the inconvenience.
The Germans insert a “sh” sound very often even when the spelling doesn’t bear it out.
@@michaelshaffer8451 The “St” at the beginning of a word is like “sht”, but be careful when you have words like “Reichstag” because that is s compound word: Reich + Tag joined by an S to make the word compound. You hear a lot of people mispronounce it as “Reich shtag”, but there is no “sh” sound at all, but just an “s” sound.

Thank you Mark Felton, for shedding light on what happened
Great work Mark as we have come to expect from a superb historian and journalist - a rare breed these days! 😀
The guy one the very right side of the photo on 8:58 is also well known.
Its Josef Blösche who hid in the GDR until the late 1960s, when his identity was finally revealed
Could you please do a similar set of video on Warsaw uprising of 1944. Many people in the West cannot tell between the two.
He would have to do 20 videos like that, or more...

Great work, as usual.

I’ve seen that picture in the thumbnail so many times but never in color and such good quality. It’s kinda spooky it makes it so much more real
Thanks for an excellent series on the Warsaw Ghetto revolt 😁👌👌👌👌
You said many Germans involved in crushing the uprising were able to reintegrate into society after the war! One of the worst came the next summer during the Warsaw uprising, which i'm sure you'll get to, was Heinz Reinefarth! How he managed to not get prosecuted... or assassinated is beyond me!
Dr. Mark Felton, have described the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising with more and better details than anyone else. Even better than all other historians together!
Thank you so much for your dedication to what you are doing.
My gratitude towards you comes from my heart and I hope that the universe will keep helping and support you, to keep telling us these very important & needed documentaries🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏!
So wrong... there are many historical books describing this shooting in the ghetto in much more detail than Mark had time to do during one hour of UA-cam video...
@@KrissowskiM Right, I got that.
Obviously, one will get more details from a book but who are reading books on UA-cam?
Anyway, please suggest me the best and most truthful book to read on from the Ghetto Uprising.
@@Asger21 why not start with the source? Go for Moczarski’s ‘Conversations with Executioner’.
Moczarski was the Polish Home Army insurgent who was put by the commies in prison with Stroop and listened to him for nine months - he wrote the book when he was pardoned from his death sentence in the fifties when Stalin died.
One of the most fascinating series you have posted Dr Felton. Thanks for sharing!
One more was punished. At 08:57 Rottenführer Josef Blösche (far right). Executed 1969 Leipzig
The death penalty has a complete justification here
Stroop got his dues in court in 1946 and was strung up.
You mean ‘52 ?
To us the viewers war is fascinating, but it, to it's victims it is a low for mankind, a madness that should be avoided.
