      I feel like Ferrer deserved more titles for how good a player he was. Unfortunately he’ll never be remembered as he should have been because he failed to win a major. He was in the strongest ever era and I believe he would have picked up a major win if playing today

      @@brianlafev4261His peak was 2011-2013, which was just the worst time to peak. Djokovic was at his peak, Nadal was in his prime, Murray was in his prime, Federer was still clinging to his prime until 2013.
      Murray also got shafted during that time span btw. At AO2011 he made the final and got beaten by Djokovic. At RG, Wimbledon, and USO that year, he made the semis and got beaten by Nadal three times. At AO2012, he made the semis and was barely beaten by Novak. Wimbledon 2012, he made the final but lost to Federer. AO2013 he lost the final to Novak.
      This was just a brutal time to be a top tennis player. So many greats contending at their favorite surfaces and there was no room for anyone else.

    Watching Murray is infuriating. He is easily playing the best tennis of his life, and every time he has an opportunity to put the game to an end with a ruthless winner, he softballs the tennis ball *back to his fucking opponent.* How many times do you have to make that same mistake over and over before you realize the point of those opportunities is to smash an unreturnable shot?!

      He did play that way pre2011. Murray was a very very aggressive player when he first stepped on the tour. However, he suffered some bad early rounds exits playing that way. Playing a high percentage style allowed Murray to win more matches against "lesser" opponents and from 2011 onwards he was always in top4. However, that playstyle made him struggle to beat the big3 as often as he would like.

    Is it really difficult to actually get the points sequences correct. You go from from 40-30 on the Murray serve to the start of the tie break where Ferrer misses back to where Ferrer has match point on the Murray serve back to the tie break.

    As painful of a loss as you can imagine. At 11:38, Ferrer had match point and was in a long rally. That Murray ball barely clipped the line; it was just maybe half a centimeter in. That half centimeter decided whether Ferrer would get the title or not. Unfortunately, it was out, and Ferrer lost the tiebreak.
    And for a guy who ended his career with “only” one Masters1000 title, a second one would’ve done so much for his legacy and career. Everyone talks about the players who have been screwed over by the big 4, but Ferrer is #1 on the list. He was extremely consistent and dominated non-big 4 players, but the big 4 themselves dominated him.

    • @martinhudecek8886
      @martinhudecek8886 5 місяців тому +2

      Ferrers career is just fine. Davis Cup wins aplenty. He never wanted much attention compared to rafa. He is right up there in the all time earnings list. He never was as ambitious as the big 3 and so never probably wanted the biggest titles quite enough. He was happy to peak at a ranking of 3. He is definitely an overachiever but an excellent role model for behaviour unlike most others at the top

      @@martinhudecek8886 Sorry but this is ridiculous to say he never wanted the biggest titles enough, as if he didn't maximise his career! Prime Murray is a great player, but he was inconsistent during this period.
    He lost too many to non-BIG3 players...
    He spent the last two years, the only time he was even with the BIG3, in a precarious position.
    Very wasteful.
    That's why I was very surprised by his excellent consistency in 2016.
