I thought it was AWESOME that you realized that your kids were probably overwhelmed in the space and decided to DO something about it. A lot of times when decluttering is overwhelming, it's difficult for an ADULT to take care of it, much less a child. I approve this message.💞

Rina I raised 2 boys. They were responsible for cleaning their own rooms. However, like you about every other month, I grabbed a trash can & cleaned out the stuff they overlooked. Such as the candy wrappers stuffed in drawers, stuff that got shoved under the bed, etc. I was a neat freak, so it was hard letting the boys clean on their own, but they had to learn. So you are right on track, girlfriend. You're a good mom. ❤👍

My daughter explained to me that I can watch your videos on my TV and then go on my cell phone and download the UA-cam app. And then I can comment from my cell phone. I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kathleen and I've been watching your videos for a long time. No one has the right to judge anyone on how they mother their children. You are an excellent mother, wife, and a great woman. You are so energetic. When I watched this video of you helping your kiddos clean out their room it made me get up off the couch and start straightening up my living room and dining room. I look forward to the next video that you post. And I will be commenting when I'm able to. God bless you and your beautiful family.

Merina you are such a hard worker. I raised 4 kids in a 14x80 mobil home, I worked a full time job when all my kids got in school. I know how hard it is. I had a rule where the kids kept their toys in their room or outside, not toys scattered all over the house. Anything left scattered got put in a box and put in our storage shed, for a few weeks, there has to be rules. For the stuffed animals, there are nets that you can hang in a corner, not expensive. kids don't really need so much stuff, sometimes it overwhelms them. I am sure when warm weather gets here, they will play outside more, less clutter inside. Yes, kids want and need rules in order to survive in the adult world. You and Shane are good parents who love their kids, just hate seeing you going in circles over and over. God bless you all.

  • @kathleencrews3329
    @kathleencrews3329 7 місяців тому +7

We put a net and put it up hanging from the wall. It almost looks like a hammock and that’s where they put all the squish mellows up.
It’s from corner to corner .. that way it’s up off the floor and they have all their squish mellows safely above.. my daughters loved it
Easy to remove the net once you declutter, some more or to take it down or you can keep it up forever.. ❤

With that many items, laundry would be completely overwhelming.
While we were still growing, my mom got us each 7 daily outfits and 2 church outfits, which we had to rotate.
We always outgrew them before that had a chance to wear out or for us to get too tired of them.

Merina I genuinely dont know how you do it. You are such a beautiful person who shares so much with us (complete strangers) I'm sure you still have moments when you're angry or sad but I want to thank you for just being you. You always say that nobody should be taking advice from you but you are wrong girl. The way you parent is beautiful. And I'm learning from it. Your children always seem so happy and loved. It makes me sad to come down in the comments and read some of the things people still say to you after all your years on here😢. I just don't understand how if they watch you regularly how they could say some of these things. And some even try to hide the "kind advice" behind the Lord's name. It truly breaks my heart. I hope that you always know that there are some people here who keep coming back because you are genuinely loved and appreciated ❤❤❤

Just remember your passing things onto your kiddos that you weren't taught, yes its demonstration however remember they see you renovating a new home for them cooking, and, shopping, outside activities sitting on their bedroom floor cleaning and orginizing things. You rock momma i dare to say the kiddos would agree.Love that your protecting those kiddos love that!Whoever made those beautiful kitchen towels does beautiful work and what a thaughtful gift!God bless each of you always🕊️💚

I totally agree with you that kids mimic their parents and they can get overwhelmed very easily. I learned when my kids were small that they were happier and used their imaginations with less 'stuff'. I think you will get to a point where you are giving them less presents and shifting to more experiences. The things that we remember the most about our childhood were the memories with our family and not the toys we played with. So when you are shopping for things like Christmas (or Valentine's Day) keep in mind that you are contributing to the next need to declutter.

When my kids and then grandkids were little (the toy years), we really celebrated the four seasons. On the Solstices and Equinoxes I would swap out the seasonal decor…..first days of Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter.
I had color-coded bins so I could tell The Drummer, “Please go pull the brown bins.” (Or the Spring yellow ones, etc. Walmart and Hobby Lobby have them.) They contained the seasonal sofa pillow covers and throws, mantel decorations, wreaths for the doors, etc.
ALSO packed away were TOYS AND BOOKS! It was like seeing old friends and Christmas morning every quarter! I tried to pack away the stuff that was seasonal-ish, and that they liked. We just didn’t buy junkie toys anymore.
It was easier to pack stuff away, discard, and donate quarterly. It was also easier for them to pack something away knowing they would see it again than to give it away.
(Another fun thing was that I wrapped 24 of the Christmas story books in Christmas paper and they opened them every day as an Advent calendar. Even in high school they would stop to hear their favorite childhood Christmas stories being read. They usually got a few additions to the collection every year. When I packed up Christmas I would set aside the 24 favorites in an “Advent” bin with the nativity set and elf on the shelf and the stuff we needed first of the Christmas season decor and toys.)
As well, we scaled down the junkie gifts and the quantity. Holidays each had traditions and special food and activities rather than gifts. We saw the Nutcracker ballet every year and went to the big zoo in a nearby city to see Spring babies. We bought season passes to things and went wild water rafting every summer. They barely remember what they got for Christmas or birthdays, but the special desert or Autumn hikes to see the leaves changing - they remember those family traditions. I’d say we still do a lot of them!

I just love your kiddos and their hearts. Not in a sick way but they just have loving, giving, and helpful hearts and that is just from the little bit I've seen on here. People may not agree with how u parent but you must be doing something right. When I see u as a mom of what is on here I see you as the most patient, loving, educating, God fearing momma. I so get you when u say if u go in are overwhelmed that u can't imagine how they must feel. That is how I've always felt with mine too. There are just times that mommas do have to go in for the rescue. Mine are now 21 and 19 and I can tell u that they now know and do call momma to come to the rescue. My son lives in a different state so I can't do as much for him but my daughter definitely calls when she needs help. She's called just so overwhelmed to where I just have to come help clean or as simple as her dropping off a bag or 2 of dirty clothes. Sometimes that's all u need is someone to do a couple loads of laundry for u. So I say keep doing what you're doing cause they will call on u when they are grown.

Merina those towels are adorable. I get what your saying about the kids learning by example, try getting them every night to straighten up their room for 30 minutes. It’s will be a start for them, they don’t know how to start so you have to show them where to start. I love how your girls play with their toys.

Here’s a little tip that help me in keeping a tidy home and it made washing a lot easier. It also saved some money.
MAKE A CAPSULE WARDROBE FOR EACH PERSON.
I did 15 items in each one. I went through the clothes with each person.

Merina, a hint for your burger. Take it out of the freezer a day early and let it thaw in the fridge. Makes it quicker when browning it. Your meals look delicious.

they are happy, healthy & love their parents. raise them up in the way of the Lord & they will be fine young ladies & gentlemen. God bless

I had to come back and leave another comment. Once again, I want to remind everyone that I am a 45 year old homeschooling mother of seven.
I am so proud of you for recognizing that it’s backwards to expect our kids to do things we ourselves aren’t doing. I’m with you 100%. I still struggle with keeping the home organized and having a home for everything, and everything in it’s home.
My own stuff sometimes gets out of hand like the girls’ room in this video. Right now my boys’ room looks like a boy version of your girls’ room.
    It happens! Rooms get overwhelming.
I do know some moms who never seem to struggle with “pickles” like this. And I want to implement more of their good habits into my family too. But I’m not into beating myself up.
All of that said, with my boys’ room CURRENTLY looking like your girls’ room did at the beginning of this video, I’m going to go ahead and pass on one bit of advice. LOL!
It really is good to let the kids be involved in decluttering. They like to learn and practice picking up one little toy at a time, and process:
    “Do I need this?”
“Does it fit? Does it work? Is it in good condition?”
    “Do I want this?”
    “Why do I want this?”
“Is it worth the way the mess feels?”
These are just a few good thoughts to keep in place.
One other thing, I’m trying to help my kids (AND MYSELF!) be more choosy about the things that we bring into the house.
I have spent 23 years of my life almost never buying anything new. Almost everything we have comes from thrift stores, and when I choose something to bring in the house, I usually think “Is this a high quality thing in good condition, and at a good price?”
But I haven’t had a good habit of asking myself “Do we really need it? Do I have a place in the house for it?”
I’m trying to do better with that.
I’m also trying to get rid of the same volume of stuff I bring home. So, if I bring home a bag of thrifted finds, I take that bag around the house and fill it up with the same amount of stuff to donate back to the thrift store.
One more thing about the “being choosy” I’m doing lately, is I’m …
    S L O W L Y
… building a beautiful Maileg Mouse Dollhouse collection for the kids.
We got rid of the squishmallows because of space. And we have never allowed Barbie or LOL or any sexy dolls. Please don’t feel criticized! You do you Mama! I’m just saying, we had a lot of reasons (mostly my trauma) but the lack of adult themed toys helps the home feel more peaceful and safe. I’m not advising anyone to make the same choice, I’m just saying it’s what we do.
The point isn’t about our personal parenting choices, the point is, that it really helps to just simply eliminate big clutter problems.
For another family they might say “We don’t do baby dolls.” Or “We don’t do stuffed animals.” Or whatever. The specifics aren’t the point. I’m just saying it really helps to have some big things that are just out.
    It simplifies it.
So, like I said, we’re slowly building up the Maileg Mouse House, and every time they get a new piece, they get rid of some other stuff, usually a stuffed animal. And this is really working to declutter the house. The girl’s room already has ALOT less stuff.

LOVE your parenting philosophy! My son is almost 3 and we only keep what we have a spot for. It takes 5 minutes to clean and vacuum his room every night. We do it together right now, but im hoping he will naturally start doing it himself as he gets older since thats what we have modeled!

My daughter asked if I could purchase experiences for my grands gift. One year I got a zoo pass, last summer I got them library cards and took them to different events at several county libraries. I've got magazine subscriptions that come In the mail each month. There's lots of ideas. Usually our kids rooms are full because WE buy them too much. I like the 4 gift per child for Christmas, 1- clothing 2- book 3- a toy. 4- a sweet, then besides a meal have a game or scavenger hunt for everyone.

Hey Rina & and family. I love your videos! This one was really a great one. You made a lot of great points. All kids' rooms do indeed need that Mommy touch. Yes, the kids need to clean their rooms with you and on their own . After donating items, throwing away broken items, etc. It's so much easier to clean rooms. Having good storage systems and rotating the number of toys left out really helps. Putting away toys before bed or once they finish playing with them helps too. I had 3 step kids and 3 of my own, yes family of 8 plus work full time at a daycare. (The youngest two went to work with me). This really helped me stay organized and my home cleaned. My oldest Son has ADHD and still struggles with cleaning, but it's gotten better over the past year. I think what you're doing and have said is great!! Keep up the great work. Thanks so much.

❤❤❤❤❤❤ the message in this video is something we all need to hear. LEARNED BEHAVIOR. Our children’s first and constant role models are their parents- WE teach them not just mannerisms and language and how to walk, just our daily habits (good and bad) are absorbed by our children. I was raised in a very clean home (though if you opened a storage cabinet or closet, Mom liked to shop) with a mother who just wanted us kids to be kids and enjoy life and be active in school and school activities as she dropped out of school in 10th grade to stay home and be the housekeeper/cook in her parents home as they both worked and my grandfather was VERY traditional (this is in the late 1940’s-mid 1950’s when she was married in 1955), so mom did t want us to clean or do laundry or cook. I was always a tidy person but had no idea of the daily housekeeping/cleaning needed to keep a house or knew how to cook. At about 22 years old, pregnant with my second child, I met a woman about 7 years older than me and she set me straight and taught me everything I needed to know on housekeeping, laundry and involving my toddler into helping me pick up during the day. The Betty Crocker Cookbook (1982 edition with orange hardcover) was how how I taught myself to cook and bake- that cookbook is still on a kitchen shelf. Anyone can change and learn new ways to do things and you are modeling that Merina. And the question about me not asking my mother- well, I eloped with a military guy 41 years ago and I was 1500 miles from my late mother and talking on the phone was not the same as being shown certain things, when it came to baking or cooking I burned up the phone lines as my mom talked me through baking/cooking things and when we visited her and dad, I made sure she taught me how she made things like her pie crust, her smoked finis haddock, tourtiere pie (a Canadien French traditional meat pie), and more things because Mom was an exceptional cook/baker.

Definitely just take one small area at a time, I de-cluttered my full house a couple years ago, I started in my kitchen and it took me 2 weeks for the kitchen alone, the whole house took approximately 6 months, only working til I had enough for the day and never overwhelming myself … once you start and see the progress it’s such a good feeling you wanna keep going til the whole house is done before you know it ! 😊👍😊

Hi Marina! I just want you to know that your frozen solid meat is good for a very long time. As long as it’s kept frozen solid, and then thawed and used the same day.
When I was younger and less comfortable with using meat that had been frozen a long time, I would sometimes bring home large packages of ground beef, and cook it all up, and then put it into family meal size amounts in freezer bags and freeze it already cooked.
It makes meal prep super easy too. It’s not my “always” but I still do that sometimes.

Idea for a quick meal; Look up “egg roll in a bowl” recipe - get a bag of Cole slaw (without the dressing, ground beef/pork/turkey or chicken, sesame oil, hoisin sauce or soy sauce, and wonton strips. Takes about 5-10 min and SO GOOD!! It also is on WW, low carb, low cal for those on diets.
