This video reminded me of the "family matters" S8E16 when Urkel builds a time machine and when Carl asks Urkel where he got the plutonium from in the future Urkel replies "from RadioShack"
I tend to leave tools and debris around until I've finished a project. If I don't, I find myself constantly having to retrieve a tool or material I thought I was finished with. I especially hate sweeping up because I know I'm just going to create more of a mess on the floor that I'll have to sweep a second time. I like one and done on cleanup.
I'm fortunate in that my full time job is shift work that gives me 8 days in a row off every month. That gives me plenty of time to work on projects in my workshop every month. A good portion of that time is allocated to cleanup and organization from previous projects. My shop is tiny though and gets destroyed every time I work on something.
I don’t spend much time at the bench these days, but when I go to the basement where my “shop” is, I will spend a few minutes putting stuff away. I’m a little obsessive compulsive on some days, others, I just walk by and ignore it! Thanks for sharing. Happy days and model on! 😎🇨🇦
I've noticed that there's a strong correlation between shop tidiness and productivity. There are exceptions, but in general the more messy/chaotic a shop the more productive and genius the creator.
I'm not a morning person so I always start the day with a coffee in bed, I take my time, get up at about 10am, then have another coffee, then start modelling. I feel good about that because once I get focused I can be in the workshop until 11pm! Great vid as always Adam, thanks for the insight into your work day!
*on keeping things all neat and tidy and expanding your shop to accommodate more incredibly exciting and super geeky bits...have you considered installing one of the document/archival storage systems that have the nifty cranks on the end that open up/expand the shelves for access and then collapse to take up less space?...i'm sure there would be a model that would suit your needs or possibly be tweaked to your exact specifications and conform to the eclectic aesthetics that exist within the reality of the confines of your workspace and maker reality universe*
As attractive as that sounds (and believe me, I love those systems) I don't think they're suitable for Adam. -He needs to have a visual overview to find things, which you can't with that system, -He'll get impatient quickly with rolling many different cabinets to get to stuff -And finally, with the amount of clutter in the shop, I can imagine him stuffing some big object in between two cabinets, making the whole system practically stuck.
Adam, re the question about tidiness, it feels like we may suffer from a related affliction... namely being tidy because we're not! I bounce back and forth between focus and distraction and find it very easy to become overwhelmed stuff and workspaces. So I try to solve the problem of me being a mess by implementing easy to use and remember systems for storage etc. Seems like you do the same, to a MUCH higher degree and standard then I do! For me this is all very ADHD related. I'm always early for the same reason, because in reality I tend to be distracted right when I should be leaving, so I pad my times of obligation knowing I'll probably get sidetracked. But I do it so much, I still end up early!
Seems to be a tidiness bell curve for productivity. 100% tidy = never make a mess and thus nothing is getting done. Working in a dump and spending all your time looking for stuff instead of producing = nothing getting done despite huge activity levels. Health has forced me to recalibrate my tidiness level, have very little functional time and can't afford the inefficiency of not knowing where something is during my limited functional periods.
Related to "how tidy are you"... To what degree does the cave adhere to "a place for everything"? My space current doesn't have a place for most anything, so I'm crippled when it comes to tidying up. "Well put up those shelves." The ones that would go over there in that area that needs to be tidied up before I put up the shelves...?
Dear Adam savage. Is there such a thing as a mechanical typewriter that uses a dot matrix style print head? In that they're not dozens of strikers with unique patterns but one print mechanism that through mechanical means prints a selection of dots from a 5 x 9 grid to produce letters?
hey Adam I was wondering you could design cool look rain barrow all features good rain barrow. think make look tiki or some tomb artifact or anything want. challenge is make weather proof. easy store in winter. have so pull lid off top if want empty water out with bucket. need have so down spot connector and overflow back down spot. I also had idea for Russian stack doll for diffrent project. I was wonder if this work rain barrow. like had 4 thor shaped tikies that fite into each other in winter for storage then put out on four down spots. when weather right collecting rain.
project didn't get down this year was solar dehydrator. basilica box with black screen bottom peace of plexus glasses on top. with legs. put peppers or tomatoes in it sun dehydrated it. painted inside with black wood furnace paint on inside. think if you design out side like Apollo greek god of sun on outside. make look nice in yard.
I know i'm lazy, but even the best job I ever had doesn't compare to sitting around and doing nothing. 13 years of work without a break sounds like the 7th Circle of Dante's Hell to me.
They’ve done a few reboots, none have been quite successful without that odd chemistry between Adam and Jamie, though I think Adam did recently do a myth buster junior recently
Quite right ! How dare he acknowledge his chattel as an equal, before you know it she'll demand a say in things that don't concern her , or even, equal voting rights ! 😡 /s So Corey, is there any reason why you object to Adam's choice of naming convention ? (asking for a friend) 🤪

I'm almost 49 years old and still aspire to be Adam Savage when I grow up.

same...but does get really annoying with larger cooking projects/experiments since i cant leave the cold stuff just sitting out

Love the vids Adam, I could be having the worst day but when I turn on your vids I always get the biggest smile and laugh a lot.

Working from home I find it impossible to switch off, as my maker space is my home this is an issue I've yet to figure out.
Thank you very much.
I have till Saturday to get my own mando done. Gave myself a deadline now i have to finish it
[two block commute] Nice.
LOL! Watching this as a do a "shop tidying"
Nice Video thanks for sharing adam sir.
congrats on reaching 365 episodes, now i can watch one episode a day!
Great video. What iPhone case is that? Looks good.

I would love to see you visit Abandoned buildings, like aa Abandoned research facilities. I think that would be cool Abandoned Power Plants and so on.
Do you have a Snapple sponsorship yet, Adam?
Have you guy's heard about Allen Pan buying the mythbusters name? For apparel only of course. 😉

What phone case are you using there? Looks nice.
Other people: Buys super expensive car.
Adam: I now have the last tool I need, and so todays one-day build is a high-performance sports car!
What happened to the Space suits you made for G4?
Thanks for answering my question!!!

Not electrical at all! Although a sectional letter/# element like old lcd screens would use could cut down on the number "dots" as so to speak.

I sometimes talk to future me in my shop and ask What would Adam do?
I know i'm lazy, but even the best job I ever had doesn't compare to sitting around and doing nothing. 13 years of work without a break sounds like the 7th Circle of Dante's Hell to me.
Imagine all the money you stacked up if you happen to get lucky and land a show like that so
Are you part of the making Star Wars Andor?
Are u gonna 1 day build that mando armour?
That’s what production staff is for, right, broom management 😊
* Love your semi-retired Caveness..
Have u ever blown glass?
I want Mythbusters back in action.
But it wouldn't be the same without Grant Imahara. 😕

@@CancerKicker98 You are right about that🙏
@@zanderchiasson8064 Never the same without, Jamie, Adam, Grant, Tory, and Kari.
@@nikolajc7617 nothing will ever quite live up to the chemistry (or complete lack thereof) between them
❤
Man I'm bad at both of these things.
Anytime Adam says partner I first assume partner in crime
Working 9 to 5? What a way a make a living.
like evening peter ever helps morning peter 😃
RIP G4 again.
I wish I could own one of Adam's old workbenches or tool bags or literally anything, it'd be the pride of my collection.
Not to worry. No chance of mistaking you for a paragon of cleanliness.
Wait you have a floor? ;)
andor prison suit?
There is a UA-cam channel called createscifi I think you'll like.
Do you realize just how unusual you are compared to the average guy?
Coffee for your partner?
I thought you were married.
He is married. I can only figure that his wife is a cowboy. Howdy, Partner.
@@derekbrown467
Howdy partner.
That was funny. Thanks for the early morning laugh. 👍
U strike me as a man that cant stay still for very long.
Ur always gotta be fiddling with something, fixing something etc!
Adam! I love you but please stop calling your wife your “partner”
