Suite-mate? 1995-2000: E4 and below had 4 people with bunk beds in that setup. There was a mini-fridge in each side. The windows were casement windows with no screens, and the HVAC was not controllable by the room. When the heat was on, you'd have to keep the window open to keep it below 80 in the room. Woke up to snow blowing in multiple times. I'm glad they've made improvements, and they are great improvements. It's also amazing compared to the Old Post barracks. But compared to other installations, there are lightyears to go. Not ragging on Single Soldier Housing, but you can see why soldiers are getting married as soon as they can to get out of the B's.
We didn’t have a community kitchen. The day room was empty. We had wall lockers in the “bedroom storage”. We had bunk beds with 4 guys in a “bedroom and then 4 dressers 1 at the foot of each bed and 2 by the window heater. The place was literally like a jail cell. Complete with heavy metal slamming door. The a joining bathroom was great at 0730 getting ready for work call. We had females in the room next to us and they would lock our bathroom door when they were in there and then forget to unlock it and we couldn’t get in to get ready.
Yeah, you're one of those that's impossible to please, aren't ya? This is the standard for for dormitories at any institution, actually, better since most institutions put two people to a room that size. Accept that the military is never going to pay for mansions for each individual soldier and grow up. And yes, its going to look devoid and desolate when there's no one living in the room.
The fan is the big thing. When i lived in the barracks in the Marines, we had 1970s barracks that had been renovated 2016ish. By the time i got there in late 2018, the central exhaust fan for the heads had kicked the bucket. Since the heads were shared like this, the doors between the heads and the rooms were auto closing which kept them nicely damp and dark, inevitably leading to mold and mildew.
Thats what i find alot of my fellow servicemembers dont understand: the current DOD standards for bachelor quarters is on par with college dorms for renovations and better for new builds. I wilk say that alot of folks in post maintenance get away with slacking on upkeep, and unit leadership can be excessive when it comes to barracks inspections.
Those block walls!!! I was there in Aug 93 to 97. The block work looks like I did it!!! I am a electrician now!!!!!
Gotcha Beat! I watched them being built when I was there beginning in 1988.
Got both of you beat. Got there in Jul 87.
Lmao, really propped this barracks up for this video
kitchens are locked up and day rooms are locked as well. don't let them lie to you
Wait....1 soldier per room? Also, why the fuck is John Fettermen doing house hunters barracks edition?

Yeah nah this isn’t even close to what I have. No kitchen, no community areas.
😂 It still ain't worth the lifetime of aches and pains.
Is it possible to install lids on the toilet seat? Is there a fan in the bathroom ceiling?
