    This was perfect for me. I've done this before, but needed a refresher just to make sure I was doing everything I needed to.
    However, my shut-off valves below the sink were stuck in the open position. Even after taking off the handles and using pliers, I could not get one to turn off for fear of actually breaking it. I had to turn of the main water supply to my house. Luckily it was in a convenient location. (I ended up replacing that valve, too, as well as the washer - might as well with the water supply off.) But beware: In some older homes, like my last, the main water shutoff doesn't work, either. In that case (as it appears in my current house), I would probably get a plumber to install a new one. In my current house, it looks like a plumber installed a lever a couple of feet up from the old main shut-off valvle. He cut into the copper pipe to install the lever - something I would not be comfortable to do.

    I have the same type of faucet, with three rubber washers total - two on the stem removed and the one underneath. I happened to have the other two in my shop, and changed them out, but it still dripped. Went to the hardware store and bought the washers you installed (on the bottom) and that fixed it. Thanks!

    Add a little plumbers grease or valve grease to the o-ring that goes around the valve and the rubber washer itself to help stop leaks.

    There is a difference between the materials that the cold water washers and hot water side washers (as well as the stem) are made out of. This is left out of almost every video that is made.
    Washers made for hot water are made of more durable material and the rubber is harder.
    This could save a lot of redoing of job over and over, because the cold water washer on hot side, keeps wearing out.
    They should point this out if they claim to be an expert. This is how they stay in business.

    That bottom washer with the spring is giving me fits. Spent more time talking about how it works than showing how to install it.

    What about kitchen sinks that have cartridges? Do they have washers or do I have to change the whole cartridge? I am asking before I take it apart because cartridges have to be ordered and I have to shut off the main because there is no Individual sink shut off

    The video seemed perfect. My prob: The white plastic valve won't come off (either tap). Using the suggestion in the video didn't work; the plastic stem in each valve revolves uselessly, independent of the whole valve. Any ideas? Thanx...

      Just to let you know I put one in you can do it without the spring all you got to do is she that rubber washer in the hole and then put the seat back on I did it it worked sometimes you can't get the right water Springs I don't know why they have the spring in there it's useless

      Not a timely response, but perhaps will help others: Turn off the main water supply to your home or apartment, then.

    I wish he slowly showed and explain how the washer fit over the spring. I find it difficult to fit. Does the rubber washer fit over the spring and then down into the hole? It's not as easy if you dont' do stuff like this. And no, this is not for dummies, it's for dummies that know how the spring and rubber washer sets together.

      Just to let you know I did one of them you can do without the spring you can stick the rubber washer in that hole and then put the seed in I did it it worked you don't really need that spring I don't know why they got that in there anyway

      You may need to replace the faucet stem too, not just the washer

    • @MamaMustang
      @MamaMustang 6 років тому

      While you have it apart, change the o-ring too. That is important. But, if it's still leaking after that, you may need to replace the entire stem.

    Actually...the little rubber and spring is called the "Seat" not washer...u can buy the cartridge n Seat n spring in one package for under $10...replace the whole assembly is smartest 👌 why have to do it again for under $10 😉
