Thanks for the video. Nice job. I do have to point out to things I would recc9mend that idk if you mentioned. First is seal your joints and screws prior to this with shower seal. Second definitely wrap the niche seams as manufacture recommends that. It will also help cover screws inside niches as well.
When drywalling in a bathroom I use plastic corner bead attached to the service with 3M Super Tac spray adhesive. This method will insure the corner bead will never rust. Plus it is much faster than nailing/screwing corner bead.
I was going to go with Tile Redi shower base, after reading there're concern the pan flex when mortar bed dried , KBRS seem like a good system and easy for DIY. Thanks for the tutor.
Amazon does not have the KBRS shower base available right now. Where else can I get this ? HD or Loews don’t have it. Is there an alternative product? Also I’m assuming the the Schluter base and membranes are a lot more pricey than the wedi board and waterproof paint? Thank you. I’m excited to get started but want to find the right products to follow along with your videos.
Did the leak test and the water level dropped, looks like the waterproofing around the drain is coming up. How to resolve this? Should I let dry then waterproof again and try the leak test?
Hi guys, thanks for the helpful video. I am currently in process of coating a shower with the KBRS showerseal, and I have noticed that even after three days of cure time, wetting the surface causes the material to turn from the dark, cured color back to a lighter color almost the same as the wet product. It also seems a little bit softer to the touch. I can't quite tell from the video whether your's was doing the same during the flood test. Is this normal? And will this eventually go away over time? I have to say this makes me a little bit uneasy even if it is normal for the product.
I noticed this as well just with the shower base. I can't remember if redgaurd does that too. 🤔 but I noticed that as well. Doesn't seem promising but I hope for the best
do you need to coat the shower basin base with the shower membrane coating with a roller for a pointe drain KBR tile basin like you did with the kbr shower slope?
Would be great if you showed how to tile it as well. That being said is caulking enough around the shower arm and handle? Also what do you do with gap between the cement board and the ceiling? Did you just caulk it or also apply fleece there? or?
We followed these instructions perfectly, and now we realize we painted waterproofing over the drain weep holes. Can you explain why you advise doing it that way? When the grout fails and water gets under the tiles, it will have no way to drain out and will accumulate under the tiles.
Im curious what you found out as far as waterproofing over the weep holes as I am getting ready to waterproof the shower floor too. I was under the assumption that you should protect the weep holes from being plugged?? thank you
Is it required to fill the drain with the showerseal waterproofing for water to drain properly with this KBRS system? If so, do you apply a thick layer to cover the screw and surrounding holes?
Thank you, hopefully the videos helped. When you’re ready send me an email jeff@bathroomrepairtutor.com We can help you choose the right size and answer any questions 👍🏻
cutting a slit is the easiest way to fold the inside corners. With the membrane it all becomes saturated and when the corner is folded at the slice and placed back on itself becomes waterproof and solid when dry.
I have a showe slope i n bathroom and i was curious what type of thinset to use for the floor tile. Is KBRS similar to goboard and kerdi and requires un modified thinset or are you supposed to use Modified thinset? Thanks in advance.
The ShowerSlope requires modified thin-set over wood subfloors, eg Ardex X5. We recommend using an uncoupling membrane in the main bathroom area, like Ditra or Strata Mat or Flexbone. Those require modified thin-set as well.
@@HomeRepairTutor You would also use the modified thinset for the mosaic tiles which are layed in the shower slope? I have Goboard surround which uses non-modified thinset, I just wasnt sure if the shower slope material was similar. Also, yes I did use modified thinset to adhere the shower slope to sub-floor, thank you.
@@HomeRepairTutor I bought the Shower Slope and am ready to apply the water proofing. I'm just wondering if that one bucket did that entire shower? I only have the one gallon bucket. If not, could I do the walls with the Red Guard water proofing and the base with this? I just don't want to run out and, if I do, will the two products work together?
As I understand the shower system, the tile will be set on a bed of thin set over the membrane and then grouted. Over time, water will seep in through the grout, and because thin set is porous and not water proof, the water will seep through the thin set and that water will come to rest on top of the membrane. Allowing the water that ends up on top of the membrane to escape down the drain is the function of the "weep holes" and slot in the threads of the screw in part of the three piece drain. WHY DID YOU COVER UP THE WEEP HOLES IN THE DRAIN? What did I miss? How is that water that seeps down through the grout and thin set going to escape down the drain without weep holes?
would you mind sharing your budget for the bathroom? about to take on a similar project but mine includes a Jacuzzi tub which is the most expensive part....
I really appreciate your videos, great info! I have a question about your water proofing. I just purchased a KBRS tile basin, I know this is a different system, but my question is about how much you used? I bought the water proofing kit that comes with one gallon of the membrane. Was that enough to finish your shower there, or did you need more? Thanks and take care.
I ran out of the shower seal membrane before I even finished a first coat on my shower. Instead of ordering more and taking forever to get it, can I use Mapei's Aqua Defense membrane. They kind of look the same, not sure if they are.
Hey guys thanks for the very informative video! A question do I have wait for the shower base and curb to dry before putting the cement board for the walls
sorry to be off topic but does any of you know a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me.
@Zeke Lee I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm trying it out now. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Great series. Did you find the added cost for the tile basin over the shower slope was money well spent? I'm confident in using both of these approaches but I'm not sure I need the flexibility to customize the pan on site and having the curb and flanges attached to the tile basin seems like added peace of mind vs. the possibility that your waterproof membrane should fail at the walls or curb junctions (could be damaged by the tile setter or any movement could cause the membrane to break)
Both are great systems and the ShowerSlope is solid. You can use any backer board with with either pan. Frankly we’d strongly consider Hydro Ban Board with both options. The nice thing about the ShowerSlope is being able to cut up to 3” off all sides and also being able to cut down the curb. Plus, it’s not necessary to shim the studs with the ShowerSlope.
Definitely saw in an actual kbrs video that your NOT supposed to use there sealant with cement board like your doing in this video . There sealant is for foam backer board.
So if it wasn’t flush there was a mistake in the framing, or layout. You would have spent half as much if you went with curved shower base and not waisted money on that “system”. Poor planning
@@nickransom9411 did you watch the Part 1 and Part 2? Those explain in detail the planning and why this system was used. Please watch those to fully understand the scope of the project.

You should watch the video again, they explain why they run the waterproofing in two different directions and also why they did the niche the way they did.
Overwork.. use poly sealant on all joints, cloth only needed on bottom(pan). Poly before cloth o bottom too. And concrete board is garbage, use goboard.

The KBRS custom shower base was fantastic. We choose the small curb for our double shower and it was so easy!!!
DIY'er my self. This has been the best video of shower proofing! This will be exactly how I perform my shower and tub upgrade.

does wedi vs liquid membrane have similar rates of failure?

Could you use red cap or agua defense if you run out of kbrs Liquid membrane?
So with this shower pan , the weed hole is not use or useless with this system.
Is it required to fill the drain with the showerseal waterproofing for water to drain properly with this KBRS system? If so, do you apply a thick layer to cover the screw and surrounding holes?

My shower area is 53 x 30....can I cut the pan to that size?
For the corner, ive seen remodelers cut a slit in the bottom and overlap it a bit...
It depends on the system but that’s a good method. Plus most systems require overlapping the fleece or band 👍🏻
cutting a slit is the easiest way to fold the inside corners. With the membrane it all becomes saturated and when the corner is folded at the slice and placed back on itself becomes waterproof and solid when dry.

red guard on a ceiling ? no not needed no water will ever get there . Unless you have a very short ceiling.

Schluter requires that with Kerdi Board. You could add fleece to the screws for added protection

What is the size of this bathroom?
How is that water proof if it is water soluble? Membrane?
It is basically a liquid rubber when it dries. It is not dissolved by water when dry
