How To Remove, Change Or Replace Airbag (On Steering Wheel) 2003-2007 Honda Accord | DIY Auto Repair

- In this video, young mechanic Aiman will show you step by step tutorial or guide on how to remove, change or replace the steering wheel airbag on a 2004 Honda Accord (which is the same for a 2003, 2005, 2006 & 2007 Accord DX LX EX model) and should be very similar in techniques and process for Acuras and other Honda models such as Civic, CRV, Element, Pilot, Odyssey etc.. Even if you're not replacing the airbag, this step is necessary if or when you want to remove or replace the steering wheel and/or the clock spring assembly.
Word of caution is make sure you disconnect the battery first, wait a few minutes (20 minutes or longer is highly encouraged), and avoid possible static discharge via clothing or other possible methods.
The process is actually quite simple and painless. However, if you're not comfortable DIY or doing it yourself, then consult professional mechanic or certified repair garage.
Once you unplug the airbag itself, it can't go off. There's a shorting bar built into the connector of all airbags, that joins the two terminals to prevent "stray" voltage from being able to set the bag off.
However, that being said, don't allow any strong static discharges around the bag with it unplugged from the car.
Disconnect the battery, wait 3 to 5 minutes.
You need to remove the connector cover at the bottom of the wheel, unplug the airbag. There's 2 T30 Torx screws that hold the bag into the wheel. (from each side)
The switches should be accessible from that point.
Do NOT connect the battery or turn the key on with the bag removed.
Once assembled, hook up battery, and turn key on, watching airbag light. It should shut off as normal.

@@EyeOnAiman Maybe safer to not sit infront of the airbag while taking it apart and at least wearing some safety glasses after all the fatalities related to these old Honda airbags from takata exploding incorrectly.

Yes but very hard I have done it with the passenger but never the steering wheel airbag.
Hello I own a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire It is basically a Mercedes SLK 320. I was wanting to install a Mercedes airbag which is exactly like the Chrysler which is a single stage air bag meaning it has one plug on the airbag well I installed it and the airbag light came on. So I reinstalled the factory wheel and airbag and the light is still on what can be wrong. I never had a airbag issue before wanting to install the Mercedes wheel and airbag. I have seen many remove airbags with no issues but , NATURALLY I have have issues. I wrote you in the past about my AC compressor and you had given me a wrong diagnosis. The AC compressor is not to run constantly it was to cycle. So hope you can give me a better diagnosis on this problem. Thank you
We don't have a lot of exposures on Mercedes, only 1 of our mechanic friends have delved into Mercedes DIY but he recently passed away. One time he replaced an AC compressor on his 230, he thought he did everything right but still did not work. What he discovered was that the computer needed to be reset by the dealer. After a trip to the dealer and about $120 later the AC finally worked. So perhaps similar situation applies here?

I wish you showed what you mean by disconnect battery. That seems to be a very important part especially if a newbie is trying to do this.
It means disconnect the ground terminal on the battery so there is no power going through the car. If someone isn't sure what disconnecting the battery means they probably shouldn't be messing with airbags

I would just remove that shitty takata airbag. its actually much safer driving without it
