  • Recorded in Lockdown at the Siyan Soundstage in High Wycombe on 2nd August 2020. A CD of the full concert is available now at
    howard-jones-m...
The album is released digitally on 18th December 2020
Live at Siyan - by Howard Jones
'When we finally got home from the US trio tour in March this year amidst gigs being cancelled and anxiety at every turn, it felt good to be in Somerset and in one place for a while. Lockdown was a novelty for a short time and then reality kicked in. The realisation that I can no longer do what I love to do hit home and suddenly for all the amazing musicians and technicians that I work with everything abruptly came to a halt. I really felt the need to connect with my amazing fans around the world and having seen Laura Marling’s beautiful streamed performance from The Chapel in London I was inspired to have a go at a live stream show myself. It would mean at least 20 people would have some work and I could encourage people not to give up hope in a global pandemic. I couldn’t really involve the band or Nick and Robin as I didn’t want to put them at risk. I thought the best thing was a solo piano gig with good sound and camera work. It turned out to be one of the most challenging gigs of my life. It was like recording a double album live in front of fans around the world with no audience feedback. I recorded everything as I rehearsed to instil the pressure of nailing every aspect of the performance.... after all the audience would have ringside front row seats!I wanted to focus on songs that seemed relevant to our situation and I wanted to pick out lyrics that reflected this. Going back to High Wycombe, where so many things kicked off for me, and reuniting with Siyan (the company who did my very first light show) was quite surreal. I thought that the stream would be a ‘one night only’ affair but on listening to the mix that my great friend Stephen Tayler had done for me I thought that with a few tweaks it would make an interesting album recorded in a unique and unprecedented time. I’m very excited to release Live at Siyan. It is a very personal recording capturing some of my favourite hojo songs. I always like to play a cover and I have always been haunted by Lazarus from DB’s Black Star album so I wanted to include this tribute to my favourite artist. This is a limited release- numbered and signed and I hope you can enjoy it as we look forward to Winter turning to Spring and a vaccine on the way. I hope this last 9 months has not been too painful and anxious for you and your loved ones and that we can all look forward to embracing each other again instead of gazing upon our virtual avatar selves over zoom. With my best regards'Howard Director Tim SidwellLive Sound by Stephen W TaylerProduced by Joe Stopps Music in association with Howard Jones Touring Ltd.

Back in the '80s when I was a teenager, I naively thought anyone could play keyboards like Howard Jones and bought one, but that was a big mistake. This video shows what a great musician he is. He is "playing" with the song, adds some improvisation, etc., and on top of that, his voice has not changed at all. Chapeau Howard Jones!

    《Revised》・・・under establishment⇨probabilistically
    Hide and seek.
Yes. Relation between humankind and quantum
    Seems like "hide and seek".
    ーquantum effectー
An effect peculiar to quantum mechanics. Basic physical quantities such as energy take discrete values, take probabilistic values rather than deterministic values, have wave-like properties, and follow the principle of superposition. Specifically, quantum effects appear in physical phenomena such as tunnel effect, superconductivity, and superfluidity.
As I've written yesterday... we, humankind, are not able to see quantum(elementary particles).
    Discrete values.
    Probabilistic values.
    And superposition.
These are principal reasons that we are not able to see quantum.
(A)What does discrete values show us?
Uhmm... uhmm... can I express like this...?
Quantum works like digital, not analog.
    Digital takes 1,2,3...(discrete)
    Analog takes 1.1〜1.2〜1.3〜...(continue)
(B)What does probabilistic values show us?
We can not predict where quantum will appear exactly.
But we can predict where quantum will appear probabilistically.
And... something(under black hole-like effect?) makes quantum take probabilistic values.
This means that quantum can not take 1.1〜1.2〜1.3〜...(continue)
    (C)What does superposition show us?
    Quantum works like wave.
    However... quantum is material...
Can we know something from (A)〜(C)?
Quantum may have tremendous energy collectively.
    Because quantum takes discrete(1,2,3...) values.
Discrete values have possibility to be continued almost forever(please imagine
    Nuclear power).
    This energy works probabilistically...
Can't we say that quantum's energy works like solar flare?
And, quantum works like light. Because light works as wave and also as material.
Energy, light are factors of quantum, from (A)〜(C).
    Well, how was quantum established?
I think that quantum was born at the beginning of universe
Or before the beginning of universe.. anyhow very close to the beginning
    Of universe.
This theme is asking us how the universe was born...
At least, we, humankind, know the big bang.
By the way, from general theory of relativity,
Nothing is faster than light(Light has energy even though mass of light is zero.)。
    Relativity... certainly profound.
Well, good night and sweet dream to you ∂ . ∂ v

You and Your friend (T-Ride) Radioland (Kraftwerk) Me Where (Baby Teardrops) Floating World (Cacophony) Livin' the Dream (Bumblefoot) and probably something with about a gasillion other bands and peoples...

Maybe he is thinking: "Hey, some 35 years ago I was playing that in front of 100.000 people. They seem like the twinkle of an eye...".

    Just beautiful.
And: now a Buddhist, would he still chose the same lyrics?

I went to an acoustic gig the other night. He played with Robin Boult & Nick Beggs. It's easily the best gig I've ever been to. I've never witnessed better musicianship... proper hair on the back of your neck standing up. So much raw talent... I think I watched the whole show with my jaw hanging open!
