Lyrics:
Where are we? What the hell is going on?
The dust has only just begun to fall,
Crop circles in the carpet, sinking, feeling.
Spin me 'round again and rub my eyes.
This can't be happening.
When busy streets amass with people
Would stop to hold their heads heavy.
Hide and seek.
Trains and sewing machines.
All those years they were here first.
Oily marks appear on walls
Where pleasure moments hung before.
The takeover, the sweeping insensitivity of this still life.
Hide and seek.
Trains and sewing machines. (Oh, you won't catch me around here)
Blood and tears (hearts),
They were here first.
Mmm, what you say?
Mm, that you only meant well? Well, of course you did.
Mmm, what you say?
Mm, that it's all for the best? Of course it is.
Mmm, what you say?
Mm, that it's just what we need? And you decided this.
What you say?
Mmm, what did She say?
Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth.
Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut-outs.
Speak no feeling, no I don't believe you.
You don't care a bit. You don't care a bit.
(hide and seek)
Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth.
Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut-outs.
(hide and seek)
Speak no feeling, no I don't believe you.
You don't care a bit. You don't care a bit.
(hide and seek)
You don't care a bit.
You don't care a bit.
You don't care a bit.
(hide and seek)
You don't care a bit.
You don't care a bit.

2:52 to 3:23 is so timeless. Such an epic part of this song. It’s so amazing what she did with this masterpiece. It’s so simple yet complex at the same time
This part is the smoothest thing I've ever heard, so beautiful
And it gave us an epic Jason Derulo song and even better flip by Lil Wayne x Glasses Malone
Also one of the best SNL moments ever :)
@@bfosterETVJason derulo’s song is a mockery and totally butchered this song. Good thing no one listens to that garbage anymore but people come back to this instead. Just my opinion though.
@@termin8or123 you're entitled to that opinion but it's possible that your energies were just not aligned to the song in the time and place you heard it. i will say the Glasses Malone + Lil Wayne version is way better
It's crazy how disembodied the popular part seems from the rest of the song, magical.
Zachary Bayerl yea HAHHAH

I'm convinced that's only because of its popularity. Listening to this song countless times now over the years, it's a very natural movement.

Everyone always talks about the "Watcha say" part, but I think "oily marks appear on walls" part is just as beautiful
legit gives me goosebumps
I hate that so many new artists have diminished this song, or at least attempted to. It is absolutely gorgeous and now is used by a jerk who’s all like “boohoo I cheated and my girlfriend left me please forgive me” like man, GTFO
the first time she says “they were here first” i can’t help but cry because it leads right into that part. she’s a genius
I wish I could hear this for the first time again. I used to take my friend's car on short midnight drives and listen to new underground releases on local radio. This had just come out and started playing on one of those eerie, liberating night drives. It was completely possessing and synchronized with the night in the most profound way.
Yup. I tried to explain how it’s like she turned her vocals into piped pump organs with harmonies. I was an electronic pop musician myself, but I used a TC Helicon
I can’t drive but I know this exact feeling. When the perfect song just comes on and emanates the surroundings
this is the longest intro to a meme

I think it's a vocoder. My keyboard has one, where you can plug a mic into it and then play chords on the keyboard while you sing, and it'll take the "sounds" of your mouth and fit them to the notes you're playing.

She's a musical genius. Been loving her since I first heard this song around 2012
whats strange is that the mmm whatcha say part is weirdly different from every other part of the song
NB not really it’s because you’ve always heard the Jason derulo rendition of the song
It only sounds out of place cuz we all think of the Jason derulo song i think
i think it's because the mmm whatcha say part is fueled by anger in terms of the narrative of the song. it's the most aggressive part of the song and the lyrics themselves are what you'd typically hear in an argument fueled by anger and sarcasm. like before this part she doesn't understand why what's happening to her but is blindly accepting it. but the mmm whatcha say part is a turning point in her thinking and she's questioning her situation. and it ends so quietly as it seems that she knows that she doesn't have a choice but to accept her situation. at least that's what i think.
it's because that's the bit you are familiar with
Usually that part is called the bridge. It’s slightly different from the rest of the song, but it ties the message of the song together. Many songs have bridges, you just have to listen to the slight change in tune and beat.

@@ssliperyslopee listen to the lyrics, she's singing about the stuff that happened when her parents divorced, 'oily marks appear on walls where pleasure moments hung before' mean pictures and paintings taken fown from the walls leaving only their discoloured marks.
