The little interplay between her brother (violin) and her mother (Recorder) was due to her mother coming on-stage without her glasses. She sang a number of other pieces, with and without the choir. She already had full control over her vibrato (and it's not from mouth movement) when she sang at Holland's Got Talent, at nine; there is a short video taken just after her first audition where she says "I just add a little vibrato". I would like to point out a couple other technical things she did. If you noticed her shoulders didn’t move. She took her breathes from her diaphragm. This supported her notes and ability to sustain them. Her throat like DJ said is nice and relaxed leaving lots of room for airflow. She didn’t open her mouth very wide nor need to on some of the big notes because she had all that breath support. Some singers you can see what they are for lunch when they sing their mouths are open so wide.
Amira is 17 years old this year, on 27 March. Her body and her voice have matured, and she has come through puberty without losing her ability to sing. Go to You Tube and search on Amira Willighagen, and add a year if you wish, it's all there for you, including other professional, (and some not so professional,) reactions. I loved her voice and her ability the first time I heard her in 2013, at the age of nine, and she has gotten better every year since then. By the way, part of her success is due to her athletic ability, she won a cross-country race before she began singing; and another afterwards, that's where her breathing control comes from. She is not a one-trick pony. As a music teacher, you have surely heard of Alma Deutscher, another child prodigy. Amira and Alma are friends, and have done a few collaborations, put both names in your search to find those. Amira is one year older than Alma, so Alma should be 16 this year. Thank you for your comments on her matching Frieda's recorder playing and Fincent's violin playing. I do not have the ability to hear that and recognize it for what it was; learning something new makes this whole experience more enjoyable. The Choir behind her is the Royal Men's Choir of Nijmegin (I might not have that title quite right, but it is indeed the church's choir.) The point is I don't think she had to do much work to match them.

Music Teacher: Since Amira won the Holland's Got Talent at 9 in 2013, there's a recorded treasury of beautiful performances by her. I've been watching Amira closely for 7 years. Here's a suggestion of a rarely cited classical piece she sang particularly beautifully in Italy at only 11: "Amira Willighagan - Ave Maria" ( Lecce, Italy), 5 Dec. 2016. She's a born natural, prodigy soprano singer with a unique, soothing intonation and range that stirs one's soul. Amira has sung masterfully a number of versions of "Ave Maria" - her moving rendition performed in Italy in 2016 came very soon in her young career to date. She has magnificently performed pieces in Dutch, Italian, English, French, Swedish, Spanish.
Excellent reaction DJ! I am also from the States and have been following Amira for about five years now and I have the same question you have. That is why do so many Americans know little or nothing about Amira. In my opinion she is best female vocalist in my life time. I 've heard most all of the female artists of today and yesteryear but I Always go back for Amira. I don't know why cause I don't have your expertise'. @@nancyangsten2150 - I believe her mother wants her to have a normal childhood and adolescence, so she only allows Amira to do a very limited number of shows a year, so that performing is an unusual treat rather than a routine. She's certainly not a little prima donna, so it seems to be working. Maybe we'll get to see her touring as Lauretta in "Gianni Schicchi" some day.
It is really sad she hasn't been able to come to America more, Lord knows this country needs the joy, goodness, love and grace that she would bring to our lost nation. i pray now that she is 19 she will be able to travel more to other "deprived" countries, ie, we need Amira terribly.

This was an amazing performance by Amira at eleven years old. And like you said always the professional with all she does in public. At last count she was somewhere north of five hundred million hits collectively on you tube! Her third album was on Amazon’s number one best selling album. I think she was 13 or 14 when she recorded it. If you want to learn more about what an amazing person she is there are on you tube interviews and documentary’s that will give great insights. Please, more Amira. Amazing Grace, Gabriella's Song, duet with Cora singing Flower Duet at age 12. She started at age 9 by winning Holland's Got Talent singing the Opera song, O' Mio Bambino Caro It was there at that competition that it was discovered that she had NO training and learned to sing Opera by watching U-Tube videos. She also is humble and donates half her earnings to build playgrounds for Children in Africa via her own non profit..
Hi DJ. A couple of reasons why her exposure is not as prominent as say, Angelina Jordon, are at least twofold. Firstly, being a Soprano, the likes of yourself & other reactors don’t receive the amount of requests as you would a more main stream music genre. Secondly, her parents & others responsible for her well being have nurtured & protected her so as to allow her voice to mature naturally without over exertion. Also, her schooling is being treated as a priority, with music performances slotted in where possible. As you’re fully aware, some over exuberant parents push theses kids to a point that could be detrimental to both their voice & mental health. Not so with Amira. Amira is now 17, and unfortunately Covid has put paid to any public performances, but you may like to react to Amira performing Sound of Music at the age of 15. you need to review some of her more recent performances: Nella Fantasia, Gabriellas Song, Caruso, Your Love, O Sole Mio, Moon River, Flower Duet, etc. She has performed all over the world but not much in the US. She sings in 7 or 8 languages and is fluent in three Dutch, English and Afrikaans. She is today among the finest sopranos in the world

You were right she is 11. This is her brother on violin, Mom on recorder, and I believe her Dad on the organ. I call it the family affair and love it. As far as not high in America. I am from California and love her and yes learned of her from You Tube over 3 years ago. I also was a huge fan of Charlotte Church. Man she played every where, on every talk shows, and many countries. She got I believe tiered of it all by 15 or 16, that on her last of the 5 albums contract with Sony, she said the heck with it. It became a compilations album. Amira went around a bit for a while. Remember in her country they only allowed 12 performances a year and interviews counted as one. Plus had to attend regular school. With what I saw happened to Charlotte I am glad they are not burning her out. Also allowing her to enjoy childhood. How I would love to see her here in the states, but I respect her choices for now. Maybe another reason her performances are so outstanding is she is rested and relaxed. Oh and she is superior to Charlotte Church. I love everything she has done. A piece she did at fourteen called Hallelujah is outstanding. Not the standard one everyone does. It is an African version. It is a one word song. You get to concentrate on the control and range. Charlotte Church's teachers were so bad that she would have been better without them. They taught her the shortcuts to sounding like an adult, and her throat eventually rebelled.
This is a relatively recent version of Ava Maria. Amira was 11 here in 2015 since she was born in March 2004. Her mother and her brother accompany her. The choir had her as a guest artist at their Christmas concert. This is not a school concert. This was two years after she won Hollands's Got Talent. She now lives in South Africa. This was one song of several from that concert al being on UA-cam. The Choir basically alternated with her. She did two streaming concerts in 2020. See her "Lord's Prayer. I wrote on her FB page and asked her to come to America. In an interview she did last year, she stated that she is thinking about Julliard (!), but hadn't made any plans for certain. She has also talked about becoming a lawyer, a teacher or ? if she does NOT make it as a singer. GASP! Does anyone know what to do? I fear, yes fear, she will fall through the cracks - one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard.
She has always wanted a fall back and thought she would become a lawyer. She has a good head on her shoulders and do what is best for her. Hay at a very early interview said d=she wanted to work at McDonalds as a second job. I don't want to lose her either, but she has to take care of herself first then her fans
A more recent performance (2019) is her Sound of Music Medley which is my favorite. There are more even recent performances, such as the Lord's Prayer which might show her further development (there's also Caruso, but I don't have enough taste in operatic arias to know whether to recommend it). She also released an album with some classical crossover songs back in 2018, some of them written specifically for her (In the Stars is a popular one).
There is video documentary of her early life post fame, called Ave Amira. There is a short section where you can hear her singing in the shower, she is singing this Ave Maria. She said she liked the acoustics in there.

Amira was raised very protected and has been given her childhood. And it is also the whole of the Netherlands, just act normal, that is crazy enough. She finished her school in South Africa and I will certainly get worldwide fame in the future. The US market is also not very healthy for a young child, look at Jackie Evancho. She had to score when she was young and that's why her voice didn't blossom well. I found Jackie Evancho to sing better than Amira at the beginning, but unfortunately the magic has disappeared from her voice due to her too early success. You absolutely need to review this: André Rieu & Amira - O Mio Babbino Caro. You will not believe the power and purity of her voice. She is young here and had very little training at this point. She had Norway's got talent and was asked to sing at Andre Rieu concert. Amazing

Amira decided to take up singing when she was 7 or 8 because her little brother was playing the violin and her father was playing the piano and she wanted to do something also . I believe the violinist is her brother and we have them to thank for her decision to take up singing. Before Holland's Got Talent, the family performed together as 'The Willighagen Family.' For instance they performed in the "Music makes Friends" Festival in Colmschate, Netherlands when Amira was 8. Amira's mother played violin in those. Also the father used to take the children busking, Amira singing, Fincent on violin, and father on the accordion starting when Amira was just 7 years old. More recently at Christmas 2019, her father accompanied her on organ in a beautifully televised version of 'How Great Thou Art.'

I wish that Amira sang this piece a capella or without "help" of her brother and mother who just messed up her performance. The other thing is I have an impression she was singing better when she was younger - she was so much focused on singing back then, completely in aligment with some higher devine force. Now she just sings like she is at festival or something, she's not putting so much heart and devotion into those songs which is very sad after seeing her brilliant performances like this one. Music Teacher: Since Amira won the Holland's Got Talent at 9 in 2013, there's a recorded treasury of beautiful performances by her. I've been watching Amira closely for 7 years. Here's a suggestion of a rarely cited classical piece she sang particularly beautifully in Italy at only 11: "Amira Willighagan - Ave Maria" ( Lecce, Italy), 5 Dec. 2016. She's a born natural, prodigy soprano singer with a unique, soothing intonation and range that stirs one's soul. Amira has sung masterfully a number of versions of "Ave Maria" - her moving rendition performed in Italy in 2016 came very soon in her young career to date. She has magnificently performed pieces in Dutch, Italian, English, French, Swedish, Spanish.

That is why do so many Americans know little or nothing about Amira. In my opinion she is best female vocalist in my life time. I 've heard most all of the female artists of today and yesteryear but I Always go back for Amira. I don't know why cause I don't have your expertise'. @@nancyangsten2150 - I believe her mother wants her to have a normal childhood and adolescence, so she only allows Amira to do a very limited number of shows a year, so that performing is an unusual treat rather than a routine. She's certainly not a little prima donna, so it seems to be working. Maybe we'll get to see her touring as Lauretta in "Gianni Schicchi" some day.
It is really sad she hasn't been able to come to America more, Lord knows this country needs the joy, goodness, love and grace that she would bring to our lost nation. i pray now that she is 19 she will be able to travel more to other "deprived" countries, ie, we need Amira terribly.

This was an amazing performance by Amira at eleven years old. And like you said always the professional with all she does in public. At last count she was somewhere north of five hundred million hits collectively on you tube! Her third album was on Amazon’s number one best selling album. I think she was 13 or 14 when she recorded it. If you want to learn more about what an amazing person she is there are on you tube interviews and documentary’s that will give great insights. Do look for English subtitles. Her singing is only a part of who this young lady is. And thank you for doing another Amira reaction 😊

She started at age 9 by winning Holland's Got Talent singing the Opera song, O' Mio Bambino Caro
It was there at that competition that it was discovered that she had NO training and learned to sing Opera by watching U-Tube videos.
She also is humble and donates half her earnings to build playgrounds for Children in Africa via her own non profit..
Hi DJ. A couple of reasons why her exposure is not as prominent as say, Angelina Jordon, are at least twofold. Firstly, being a Soprano, the likes of yourself & other reactors don’t receive the amount of requests as you would a more main stream music genre.
Secondly, her parents & others responsible for her well being have nurtured & protected her so as to allow her voice to mature naturally without over exertion. Also, her schooling is being treated as a priority, with music performances slotted in where possible. As you’re fully aware, some over exuberant parents push theses kids to a point that could be detrimental to both their voice & mental health. Not so with Amira.
Amira is now 17, and unfortunately Covid has put paid to any public performances, but you may like to react to Amira performing Sound of Music at the age of 15. She sings about one octave above the original by Julie Andrews and nails it.

you need to review some of her more recent performances: Nella Fantasia, Gabriellas Song, Caruso, Your Love, O Sole Mio, Moon River, Flower Duet, etc. She has performed all over the world but not much in the US. She sings in 7 or 8 languages and is fluent in three Dutch, English and Afrikaans. She is today among the finest sopranos in the world

You were right she is 11. This is her brother on violin, Mom on recorder, and I believe her Dad on the organ. I call it the family affair and love it. As far as not high in America. I am from California and love her and yes learned of her from You Tube over 3 years ago. I also was a huge fan of Charlotte Church. Man she played every where, on every talk shows, and many countries. She got I believe tiered of it all by 15 or 16, that on her last of the 5 albums contract with Sony, she said the heck with it. It became a compilations album.
Amira went around a bit for a while. Remember in her country they only allowed 12 performances a year and interviews counted as one. Plus had to attend regular school. With what I saw happened to Charlotte I am glad they are not burning her out. Also allowing her to enjoy childhood. How I would love to see her here in the states, but I respect her choices for now. Maybe another reason her performances are so outstanding is she is rested and relaxed. Oh and she is superior to Charlotte Church. I love everything she has done. A piece she did at fourteen called Hallelujah is outstanding. Not the standard one everyone does. It is an African version. It is a one word song. You get to concentrate on the control and range. This is a relatively recent version of Ava Maria. Amira was 11 here in 2015 since she was born in March 2004. Her mother and her brother accompany her. The choir had her as a guest artist at their Christmas concert. This is not a school concert. This was two years after she won Hollands's Got Talent. She now lives in South Africa. This was one song of several from that concert al being on UA-cam. The Choir basically alternated with her. She did two streaming concerts in 2020. See her "Lord's Prayer. The viola player is her brother and the recorder is played by her mother.

I wrote on her FB page and asked her to come to America. In an interview she did last year, she stated that she is thinking about Julliard (!), but hadn't made any plans for certain. She has also talked about becoming a lawyer, a teacher or ? if she does NOT make it as a singer. GASP! Does anyone know what to do? I fear, yes fear, she will fall through the cracks - one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard.
She has always wanted a fall back and thought she would become a lawyer. She has a good head on her shoulders and do what is best for her. Hay at a very early interview said d=she wanted to work at McDonalds as a second job. I don't want to lose her either, but she has to take care of herself first then her fans

There are more even recent performances, such as the Lord's Prayer which might show her further development (there's also Caruso, but I don't have enough taste in operatic arias to know whether to recommend it). She also released an album with some classical crossover songs back in 2018, some of them written specifically for her (In the Stars is a popular one).

There is video documentary of her early life post fame, called Ave Amira. There is a short section where you can hear her singing in the shower, she is singing this Ave Maria. She said she liked the acoustics in there.

The US market is also not very healthy for a young child, look at Jackie Evancho.
She had to score when she was young and that's why her voice didn't blossom well.
I found Jackie Evancho to sing better than Amira at the beginning, but unfortunately the magic has disappeared from her voice due to her too early success.

Before Holland's Got Talent, the family performed together as 'The Willighagen Family.' For instance they performed in the "Music makes Friends" Festival in Colmschate, Netherlands when Amira was 8. Amira's mother played violin in those. Also the father used to take the children busking, Amira singing, Fincent on violin, and father on the accordion starting when Amira was just 7 years old. More recently at Christmas 2019, her father accompanied her on organ in a beautifully televised version of 'How Great Thou Art.'

The other thing is I have an impression she was singing better when she was younger - she was so much focused on singing back then, completely in aligment with some higher devine force. Now she just sings like she is at festival or something, she's not putting so much heart and devotion into those songs which is very sad after seeing her brilliant performances like this one. She is laying off the high notes until her voice is able to handle them in about 2028.

Sports. She continues to be first in her region of South Africa in steeple chase and would have gone to the national finals except for Covid. She is an accomplished middle distance runner and also plays field hockey in school.
