The whole Chinese team relies too much on her. If she has a cold night like this, they will lose. If she’s hot, like in her debut she made 9/9 FG, they are good. They can build a team around her but can’t make every single play thru her. She needs a better coach to teach her how to use her body.

Props to the Australian team, they boxed the shit out of her and they were much more skilled with their physicality. But that Ziyu's freethrow form isn't anything to scoff at for being 7'5. If she adds some athleticism, the ability to stay healthy and develop a post game with some drop steps, hooks and even a mid range, the other teams are cooked.

IIRC Chnese high school, while brutal (or at least more so than American high school), is hit-or-miss when it comes to English. The big problem of D1 for Ziyu is going to be the language part. UIUC would probably have a chance to get Ziyu (same conference as Iowa, B1G, with all of what that implies for the competition level).
Keep in mind that Somfai (another all-tournament player) is now down to UConn, Duke or Stanford.
Also by 2027 (if she goes CBA/Euroleague) or 2029 (if she goes NCAA) it's not a given that Ziyu will be anywhere close to first overall pick material. Even if she was, the Fever will likely need to trade away a key frontcourt piece or two, and mortgage their future, to get her.
But how much of a step up is CBA compared to international U18?

bkb is a team game, not relying on one person. ALso coaching make a big difference. China goes big, Australia goes small, win with speed and accuracy. Only one player big is not enough to win the game, coz the rest are not relatively bigger than opponent.

Do you have any idea of who the Fever would need to trade away on draft day in 2027 for that to happen? 2027 is Ziyu's draft year.

As always- a great video. I hadn't heard about her. Dang she's huge! If she can develop some more speed and some moves, she will be more impressive. Since she's pretty slow and her mobility is not there, offenses can exploit that, and defenses can make sure to rebound as well as they can, and box out. I am a Liberty fan and liked Han Xu, but her game never really synched with the Liberty. I think she's actually pretty skilled-shooting, decent speed, and moves, but I don't know if she'll come back. Is she with the Chinese Olympic squad now? That's what I heard.

Decent running speed. With her reflexes, she just has to move different in defence. The problem is that she's giving away room where she shouldn't and makes other basic defensive errors that better teams exploits. That's what the opponents exploits. If she works on that, she'll be as good against the Greatest teams as she is against everyone else! Ofc good reach and good at not fouling it looks like. And at a couple of situations she moves Great with the ball.

She can still grow to 8’0 and no team will have an answer😂 That said coaches need to work on her speed as smaller players blow right past her and needs to use her entire body if she knows they coming fast therefore they won’t have an off night. She fouled out VS austr. , and most teams like korea/ and imo japan had the chance to go at zhang indirectly by playing fast breaks because without zhang, china is literally in trouble with zhang scoring 140-150 pts the whole tourny, while the role players can shoot here and there, korea and japan would crush china w/o zhang due to better shooting. What makes me made is that they were just chucking threes vs china, no game plan just shoot a 3 and hope they drop. and nothing against the coaches/ player , BUT THEY WERE SO MUCH BETTER THAN THAT STUPID GAMEPLAN. I think like 10 for -40 attempted threes just crazy. Since Zhang is 17, I hope to see her in 18+ leagues and excited where she'll end up in the future!!!!!!! I personally think she needs a lot better coaching, running, conditioning , and fouls. I’m not even sure how long she will last playing basketball because she looks awkward just trying to keep up with everyone due to her large frame. I saw lots of videos of her before the games and I thought she only looked competitive because of her size and the opposing team was slow/nonathletic and was basically their female version of the Washington Generals. I can also see her being easily injury prone due to the wear and tear from carrying that large frame up and down the court.🤔

Actually, quite ok speed for tatt height. But I assume she has been doing a lot of strength. That's something one needs with that height. That's going to affect your speed. Fast reflexes. I've seen her be as fast down on a loose ball as any small guard. If she uses the board more, it will be ridiculous!
