First they were four persons: Eicca, Paavo, Max and Antero. Max left the band and Perttu came in and then Antero left. It's all their own choice as far as I know, even though they're currently with four again - Mikko joined as a drummer
Melo-M is a band with 4 cellos and their skills are as good as apocalyptica but they do different kinds of music (including heavy metal)...i personally prefer apocalyptica but i like Melo-M too...check them out, you might like them.
come on!...i like GNR too...but this is music, and the best ..you have to learn how apreciate this kind of music and later understand rock or another styles....if you love the real music you will learn to love THE MUSIC.

Cello is my favourite musical instrument. It's sound is magic. And they have made it wonderful!!! I am really impressed. The guys are very talented!

I'm not sure what you mean that they don't play live. They are playing live here in this video and I've seen them live twice myself.
