Is there such thing as circulated coins that may be damaged and old they could be worth money? Or do they all have to be mint condition to be worth anything? If you do a video on that I would crazy appreciate it I'm sure otherd would as well.

I started collecting in 1958 in San Diego, California, and in those days all coins from the S.F. Fed came in bags of $100.00. That included pennies, nickels, dimes. quarters, half dollars and silver dollars. Each Friday my mom would drive the Buick to downtown San Diego to the bank and pick up a bag of pennies for me to sort through over the weekend. My mom was just a little shy of 5 feet tall and weighed under a hundred pounds. The bank guard would always carry the bag out and put it in the car. It was my responsibility to get it out of the car. The pennies were in rolls and had to be rerolled to turn in. I wish I had kept one of those bags. On Monday mom would take the bag back for me. Still collecting today at 77.

One more thing this made me wonder. I used to work for a cash vault and courier company. I moved from the road to the coin vault and spent 8 to 9 hrs a day going through thousands of coins for deposit confirmation. I wasn't as informed back then but I can only imagine what went through my hands. I had some great finds as far as silver and even a gold 2 peso someone passed as a dime but I wonder how many errors went through my hands.

I remember back in the day a long time ago I was at six flags Magic Mountain in Valencia Ca. I bought a bag of peanut from a vending cart for $2.00.
I handed the person a $10.00 dollar bill and was handed back $8.00 in change, that change was SBA’s.
The SBA’s looked very similar to quarters. I do believe this was in 1979.
No I didn’t save them , I took them to an arcade called the “Flipper Flapper” at the Redlands Mall.

Thanks for taking us on the journey Daniel. Opening a mint bag or not, I guess it depends on if there are possibilities of DDO, R's n such. For these..not so much. I get rolls, I open them...the bags, just depends. Wished you would have found an off center or something. I'll wait for the video on $1000.00 bag now. 😁

I agree, someone would bid way more than they are worth. However, some people are willing to pay way over value just to have a mint sealed bag sitting on the shelf in a collection. I think the value is up to the person bidding on the coins. But I appreciate you being so honest.

I have been buying $100 bags of Kennedys for many years now and they are all still mint sewn and sealed. I figure my great great grandchildren will have an interesting time with them 50-60 years from now.
I have $100 worth of 1979 SBA’s from buying them original from the bank in 1979…LoL. They are mark free for the most part as they haven’t been touched. I was 15 years old back then.

When my eyes heal from some cataract surgery, I’ll get back to coin roll searches. I like to explore world coins and make the nice copper ones into jewelry pins. The suspense alone is worth $25.00. You made the right choice to open both bags. Had you only opened one, you would have been forced to eventually open the other, as the cat would be "out of the bag" (pun intended). Your chances of someone seeing this video and how Daniel got nothing more than a 1979 bag of duds; they would probably conclude that the 1980's bag is just another "bag of duds." Otherwise, you would have been forced you sit on the '80's bag for sometime before you tried to sell so that people's memories would lapse, and then maybe you could have recovered some of your money. Had there been some goodies in the '79 bag, then the opposite would be true. Either way, I like the suspense of "discovery," even if I wind up losing. It probably won't be the first time I made a mistake. In fact, I've learned so much from the many mistakes I've made that I'm thinking about making a few more.
