Well done! The poor old Roman Soldiers building that road in thier sandals! For almost 2000 years soldiers crawled, limped, walked, ran - cried and sweated that route!
Hi Andy! It's a great route...Ibcompleted the event in 4hrs 42 in June... I'll be lining upnagain in June 2023 to tackle the Fan Dance Trinity, completing the route 3 times in a weekend! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, Atb G🐾
@@bravogolfoscar I did the fan dance when I was in the Army in my mid 20s. However, I'm now 66 years old and now do more gentler routes, such as walking Lands End to John O'Groats, in 2018, which I will attempting again this year.
This video is a couple of years old now. I've actually done the Fan Dance twice. And yes, I did get woken in the night after with horrendous cramps! If you're intersection I have a book out about my journey, from head injury to Tabbing the London Marathon. bravogolfoscar.com/what-the-ruck-book
Done the fan dance myself recently. Found the intial assent to be very physically challenging. The worst part for me was on the way back and the numerous false peaks of jacobs ladder. Litteraly never knew when i was going to make it to the top. As id taken so long i was one of the last ones in my group of friends to make it to the top. The lead group had allready head off. Disappointed with myself i decided to thrown caution to the wind and ran all the way back down the initial assent. Cand caught up with the lead group. Running the downhills and the flats is difficult but a good idea if you want to pickup time. Then again i only had 10kg on my back.
Hey James! I'm with you, I was surprised at the start onlybbecause after watching numerous YT vids the steepness never actually comes across well on film. And yes Jacobs Ladder, very tough! Thanks for taking the time to watch and for leaving a comment. Atb G🐾

Yuk, running... Lol, I only swim when the alternative is Death, running is the same unless its to grab a bus or something for someone I have the choice to help, pushchair/old folks etc. 👍
You know the local saying right? All hikes have a good storrey at the end :-D I'll be avoiding sun season if I can so Aug/Sept is most likely for me, maybe even Oct depending on how summer goes this year.
In clear weather, its not a difficult course to navigate, but the thing that makes it a real challenge, is the very unpredictable weather you get in the Beacons. If the weather turns, you have nowhere to hide, and with the very undulating nature of the course, its very energy sapping. Its one of my favorite fell running training courses, as its mostly on good grass, with some superb climbs to make it interesting
True enough…lots of folks just up there on a summers day and it’s really a walk in the park then. In the winter it really is a different beast and you can be found out easily. It can be like three seasons in one day and the weather at the bottom bears no relation to what it’s like nearer the top. Got stuck in a white out at the bottom of the Corn Du scramble a few years and even though know it like back of hand up there still squeaky bum time for sure.
@@bravogolfoscar Nice…was up there a couple of years ago. Was early April and weather was superb all day. Still lots of snow on ground on the plateau up to the summit though. Glad you got off safely.
Thanks for your video. I did my recce a few weeks ago for the AEE FD 2nd July , like you it taught me a lot , without it i think it would have been a shocker ! Give Neil a big pat on the back, replacement hip ….👏. The day I did it was hot and it taught me that the AEE requirement for a minimum of 4 litres of water is there for a reason . Good luck in June Gareth.
Really enjoyed the video! Looks like you ascended corn du, very steep that bit. The FD cuts right along a sheep track further down across the face of corn du. Then hang a sharp left (joins the granny track from pont at daf car park) upwards along the side of cord du and then up to PyF. Then same on the way back to the red phone box. I hope you found my comment useful more than an annoyance. 👍

Got to top of pen y van wind ,rain, fog. Descended down Jacobs ladder but I quickly turned back up otherwise I knew would have been in trouble. Back in training for leg strength and in June 2023 going to complete it at the age of 59. Keep up the great vids. How did you get on in June ?
