- Yet another universal counter that was too good to pass up. In this video I briefly cover the functions of this HP 5335A, install and adjust a HP 10544A oven controlled high stability oscillator.
Hard to resist a 5335a in good condition at a reasonable price :)
Exactly! I had been looking at these on and off again over the last year or so. Certainly makes a great companion to my HP 5334B. Thanks for watching.
Was gonna ask if you could use your 5371 to check drift....and you whipped out another way of doing it! :) Very nice counter. ~Jack, VEG
This is the method shown in many of the service manuals, it's very effective. Some prefer using a lissajous pattern but I prefer this method because you can increase the sweep speed to achieve higher accuracy when adjusting the frequency reference.
@@CraigPetersen12f36b I learn allot from watching your videos and I really, really like not only the topics but also all the test gear porn....thank you! ~Jack, VEG
I got one just recently and sooo hyped to use it. Let it sit 24hrs to tune the oscillator and the thing just showed jibberish on the display. Checked all the voltages and found the -15 was running high. I suspect a cap went south and messed up a regulator??
I have another coming now to replace the 1st one, but being these are very old now, I suspect the caps in them are going to start to fail.
So far I have pretty lucky with getting this stuff off of eBay. Fortunately HP 5335A's are pretty "cheap", I just picked up another HP 5335A and a HP 5370B universal time interval counter. From what images the seller posted they appear to not have any obvious problems. Thanks for watching!
I forgot to update. I took it apart, cleaned all the edge connectors, and it fires right up.
The second counter I got did not have the oscillator option. Instead of paying 50-75 for one of them, I opted to buy a GPSDO, and just run that
Other than being quite large, they are great
