    My dad and I did an electric swap. He worked as a plumber his early years, before becoming a pipe fitter. His past made the swap easy. Everything was done pvc, no soldering, though he had shown me how years earlier.
    I did have an incident a few months back, that involved the gas heater in the home I was getting ready to sell, that involved water seeping through my ceiling, and down the walls. I’ve been fun shy since, so any plumbing in my new place, I get my plumber friend to come over. The pros make it look so easy, and they have the answer to everything.

    Idk I rarely see plumbers installing sediment traps per code. The drawing in the code book and c36 illustrates the inlet for gas is where you installed the supply line in your video. I don’t see any inspectors saying anything, just fruit for thought

    You can't transport a gas hot water heater laying I'm sure it says so on the side of the box. I always give the supply house a hard time as they stack one gas heater on top of another lying down. I point to the box and say it says right here, DO NOT TRANSPORT LYING DOWN. You could easily snap the anode rod, not to mention the dip tube and vent, and yes I've seen them break.

    On the gas line, why the extra capped down pipe? For future use of the line, or is there a reason for it?

    • @lippershey1
      @lippershey1 10 місяців тому +1

      It’s a sediment trap. Any sediment or flaking in the gas pipe will fall down into that section of pipe instead of going into the water heater gas valve. It’s required by code.

    Isnt piping the PTRV into a drain counter intuitive to its purpose? If it ever fails or if there is an over pressures/temp situation, the homeowner will never know to call for service.

    That solder joint will probably leak where he sweated off the old fitting. If you sweat off any fittings because you don't want to cut the copper pipe your suppose to make sure all old solder is completely removed with sandpaper. Trust me I know, I have owned a plumbing business in 3 states, licensed master plumber in all three states, been in business for 30 years, So I seen it all. Was also in a plumbers union and did the 5 year apprentice program a long time ago when there were no pro press stuff. I get many calls on that pro press system leaking, 8 get calls on contractors and handymen and young plumbers who try to take short cuts by sweating off a fitting and not properly getting off all the old solder. Yes you can do that but all the old solder must be removed completely or you will have a leak sooner or later.. also he didn't put enough pipe dope on the fitting that he held his finger over because he didn't want to take 3 minutes to turn the gas off, he barely put any pipe dope on the fitting I seen some areas with no pipe dope in it. So for those who keep saying he did a wonderful job they all must be young who don't know anything about plumbing or just don't care. If any of my guys working on gas line tried what he did with his finger I would fire them on the spot, it's called being lazy and not caring. Your working in someone's home it's not your house, So being careless by not shutting off the gas to do the work is ridiculous and dangerous, I already know people are going to comment with negativity but that's normal with this new generation because they think they know it all, I probably been doing plumbing longer than most of them been on this earth but it don't matter because there way of thinking is different in 2024. I'm just stating that some things he did is wrong. And not shutting off the gas is really stupid, I'm surprised he even posted this video, most mothers or husband or fathers who see this will probably agree unless they don't care about there family . Gas is nothing to play with, And I know he didn't turn the gas off because I see contractors who do the same thing he did all the time, they place there finger over the nipple and try to hurry up and apply pipe dope to the threads to screw on the new shut off, ECT, and I seen many who did that and the shut off female threads were mucked up and they couldn't get it on, Now they are standing there like a bunch of morons wanting someone to go shut the gas off because of there stupidity and laziness. Social media is a bad thing in 2024 because you get alot of handymen, homeowners who try to do tradesmens stuff posting it in UA-cam and 98% of the time they are doing it completely wrong, Then you got the idiots who watch it and follow there lead. If your going to post videos on UA-cam replacing a water heater or doing any plumbing at least do it per code, Do it safe, do it right keep in mind you got thousands of people watching it, So why wouldn't you want to do it to perfection ? Why wouldn't you want to take 3 minutes to turn gas off ? If you can't find the main gas valve then you call up the gas company to come out and turn it off until your done it's as easy as that
