I always assumed Kalpana was a US born American of Indian origin, but now that I know she was brought up in India it makes me truly appreciate her hard but successful journey to NASA.

Proud to say that in her home city (Karnal where she's from and I am from) instead of making statues to commemorate her, the state government made a medical college which is one of the best in the state (though I doubt it could compete nationally).

I wasn't even born when her plane crashed but since childhood, she had been a great motivation for me and infact most of the Indian girls. I still remember that there was a chapter in my English book about her and that made me admire her even more. My mother told me that when her plane crashed, she mourned the entire day and cried a lot. She is Kalpana Chawla, the women who taught Indian girls to dream bigger than ever before.
This video made me really emotional. When I was a kid, my sister who is 8 year elder to me had her room full with posters and quotes of Kalpana Chawla. She would collect every picture of her in the newspaper stick them on her favourite books. We made fun of her that she was obsessed. Now, almost 20 years later i realise how inspiring she was.
