I planned on doing something similar with our family farm equipment but I’ll have to see what’s left after my nephew sold everything for scrap. Gotta love family…. What was the process for blackening the guard?
Blacksmith finish, heat and boiled linseed oil.
What color do you temper the knife at we did not see that part
It was tempered at 400F twice for two hours each time. Color will be a straw.
