Very cool blade! Did you anneal the rasp before grinding the teeth down?

You can, I don’t. I order these super cheap 60grit belts for stuff like this , I have a lot of them.

@@Brackinforgeandhomestead heck yeah. I’m still rocking a 1x30. I might try a cheap belt before trying to anneal

That blade is beautiful! I'm inspired. I couldn't find a site for Horse Iron except a Facebook page. Is there another way to contact Dale? I assume they're used rasps? New are like $40.00 a piece. Thanks guys! Awesome video.

I always heard rasp steel doesn't make a very good knife steel.

If I may ask, what kind of anvil are you using? Is that one you built/made or are those commercially available? Also, I've read that many files these days are only cased hardened. Do you have any advice on how one might be able to tell if a file is hardenable? Thanks.

as for the seeing if a file is harden able there are multiple schools of thought. Cut off a piece and test quench it and check it. Mostly the way we tell is by brand name. I use Heller rasp, or Nicholson files. The one in the video is a Heller rasp.

Всё неплохо, но где же отпуск стали, тем более это рашпиль. Что-нибудь твёрдое рубанёшь или наизлом боковая нагрузка и конец ножу!!!

The Knife is not going to break, trust me we make plenty of them and test them. I didn't have time to put it in the video but we did chop antler with it. thanks!

*I don't like a knife that looks like a raspel in the slightest. It can be made from a file, but traces of origin should be carefully removed. Are you always this lazy?*
