They are really blowing up. Ever since I have discovered them I couldn't stop listening to them. Their songs are so good and refreshing. Hurt is soooo freakin' good.

Hurt and Hype Boy are my top 2 for sure! I have got to say, ADOR/Hybe went all out for these girls and it's paying off. There's so much content! I was definitely not expecting several MVs, and I agree, all their songs are bops. I also love their performances too because they play around on the stage and have very interesting choreos.
IKR! New Jeans is literally like a breath of fresh air from all those noise pollution music of K-pop that's been popping off recently. Seriously, my ears Feels like they've been blessed
They look like 5 Asian-American high school girls. Play in a group dance and sing together. Very nostalgic. Actually, they have one Vietnamese-Australian member and one Australian-Korean member. And they are both fluent in English. This group fits this concept perfectly. They will go very far in the world market. Mark my words.
"Attention" is number 1 in all streaming services in SK ! 3rd girl group song to do so after Tomboy and Love dive in 2022 !

They already got RAK (real time all kill) for their song Attention just 10 days after their debut. It's INSANE to say the least! Plus all their songs are so good ❤
I gotta appreciate the choreos too. Especially in Hype boy, where almost each of their bodies is facing towards another direction and when turning to each other they hold eye contact and smile a lot, even laugh. It makes the choreo so sympathetic and likeable since it makes us think or more like feel that they really have fun.
They also have some fun traveling, like the excited jumping/running or 10:15 with one leg to the side, getting a little distance.
Love their choreo! A lot. Cookie also has sooo good choreo. It's kinda hip-hop-y with some locking which is a really nice and uncommon thing to see amongst girl groups.
Black.Q and Kim Eunju choreographed everything for their debut and they absolutely killed it!!!

I like to describe their concept as " 2000's nostalgia packaged for Gen Z" and I LOVE it! I am so here for these girls, they are so young still so Ic ant wait to see how they evolve as a group ♥

Idk if someone already said it but some of the parts of the attention’s mv was filmed in Barcelona!!! They were in “Sala Apolo” a “club” where they hold concerts and etc.
I visisted some of the places shown in the mv with my friends!
i do really think that HYBE groups are very different, like each group has a vibe and sound so thats actualky impressive to me. BC the other big3 are very peculiar and similar, like they have a company sound so each group has something that is the same.

I think it’s hard to say in 2022 “This sounds like kpop, this sounds western etc etc” Kpop now has every sound from every genre, if you want kpop sound you can have traditional kpop, but most major groups aren’t doing that atm and really haven’t been for a while. NewJeans has brought a new element to current gen by looking back at past gens and other influences but nothing is new under the sun.
Good debut, and btw all of the songs except Hurt at promoted title tracks with stages.

@@victoriab98 what's different, their songs similar to f(x) 4walls, pink tape concept teaser with Krystal's English monologue, loona - eclipse, hi high. Didn't you know that before hybe Min Heejin was working with SM since 2002-2003 when new jeans weren't even born.
Thing I really love about this would be that the music they gave us is really refreshing and nostalgic which I really enjoyed I mean hurt-attention-cookie have been played on my spotify so much for the past 3 days 😅 the girls also match the concept really well and so do there vocals! I'm excited for the raps they would show us in the future etc. Go new jeans!

love that you reacted to the girls. their music is amazing! 💜 just wanted to share my thoughts though on the comment that their music doesnt sound like kpop. ive been a kpop fan since 2009 and i think its time to spread the word that kpop is a diversed sound and not categorize it into a certain kind of music.

I agree! It's a really orientalist viewpoint to say that Kpop sounds western, especially, for Kpop to become globalised it's had to conform towards western music styles to become more globally accepted. Overtime Kpops been able to intergrate traditional Korean cultural elements, but its almost impossible now to say Kpop is just korean or westernised ect.
You can hear a lot of late 90s/early 2000s pop and r&b influences. Which is great for them because of how much you need a focus on vocal range and stability to do proper justice to that era of western music.
While not a complete 1 to 1 comparison, I hear a lot of early destiny's child, tamia, and even early Mariah in the vocal inspirations and inflections. As well as, the bubblegum pop era of Britney and Christina.
Which is not surprising since Min Hee-Jin (Ador CEO and mastermind behind NewJeans) did the same thing with different eras of Shinee, Exo, and Red Velvet.
One thing I really appreciate and consider as something so fresh in kpop is the girls not having colored hair during their debut. I think its so nice. Like theyre not pressured to do so and promote good healthy natural hair. Very wonderful imo. Considering Ive been into kpop since 2011.
All "Attention", "Hype Boy" and "Cookie" are their title tracks, which is a pretty cool promotion of the group. Hurt is actually their only b-side. Also a thing for Hype Boy is that all 4 MVs have a different story for each members. The one you watched was for Danielle and Haerin and their story.
Edit: Tho they havent performed all three title tracks in 1 music show, but they have all performed them in different music shows. Like Attention on MNET, Hype Boy on Music Bank and such. They performed Cookie as well on a different music show.
I think they have performed all songs in one music show once, if im not wrong. But a shorter version of attention. Their first music show. Mmm maybe MCountdown
@@Hje99 i have checked their timeline and i believe august 4 was their 1st promotion day. they performed on mnet mcountdown with hype boy and cookie (but a shorter version) then august 5, they performed attention only on music bank. then on august 7, they performed attention and cookie full version on inkigayo. so yeah if you check all dates, they really havent performed all songs in 1 music show in 1 day. it's either just 2 songs or 1.

Hype Boy is definitely my favorite through Attention is a pretty close second. I love the kind of...I don't know how to describe the vibe it's very different but still very 4th gen. I'm excited to see what they bring in the future!

Why do we always conflate ethnicity and nationality in Kpop. Australian is a Nationality.They either are or aren't and are not "half". They are half Vietnamese/Korean and then whatever ethnicity their other parent is. If you are using Australian to mean white then they are likely of European descent.

I think Attention MV was shot in Spain. Sala Apolo (that concert venue/nightclub in the beginning of the MV was in Barcelona), and one of the scenes says "Girona" on the signage which is also a city in Spain.

I'm not at all into GG, I hate the cutesy concept but this is absolutely beautiful! Love the sound, the vibe, it's so different and refreshing. Nothing overdone, simple, lovely and fresh! The Cookie song is a bit suggestive considering they're so young...

Fr! I haven’t been so obsessed with a group like this in so long, their music so far has been stuck in my head ever since it was released, so their definitely doing something right! But yeah with cookie tho I’m really hoping ador and min heejin step back from those type of lyrics in the future with them, they’re still young and the teen crush aesthetic they have is doing pretty good already

They are so good. I'm not really into girl groups. I listen to some gg songs but never became a fan of any. They are the only one. It's hard not to stan.

I understand there are issues about them being underage and everything but if ya'll want to look at something badly you would definitely relate it to something in the bad light.
I was skeptic of the song at first when there were articles about it, but when I watch it with both Korean lyrics and English translation I don't quite understand why they dragged this too much.
People are so used of HYBE songs having deep meaning to it they no longer understand shallow words.

I really agreed when you said that they're taking K-POP in a new direction. To me, a lot of songs being put out nowadays sound pretty similarly powerful and ✨full✨ Maybe that's why I'm so fond of both Le Sserafim and NewJeans' music because it's super refreshing and different from the popular sounds and style that the K-POP industry has been putting forward recently
