I watched this video when it came out and made a ton of berry mentats, I ended up with a massive amount. I didn't need to craft any again until now. Thanks Turtle, these guides are really helpful!
Note, in many places, Firecaps and Starlight Creepers grow together next to each other. And there are a lot of both continuing the loop down past Gauly Mine in the forest area as well. I was doing 100-150 berry mentats at a run just from all of those before The Deep was in the game.
I gather carrot flower at Palace of the Winding Path, theres plenty there one next to another but didnt know about the Deep, starlight berries are the worst to get imo so thats quite useful

As you exit Vault 76, turn right and go down the road past the bots. Pay attention to the telephone poles. There are berry plants on each one of them. You can get more if you continue down the dirt path where the road turns, then come back and continue following the road. There are about 8 or 9 all told.
Also outside Alpha silo there are tons of firecracker plants. Go around the fence, look in the woods then follow the stream. It's usually the only spot I use for making 120 berry mentats.
If you go to the Wendigo Cave and run the “Riding Shotgun” mission you can find loads of brain fungus, the asylum also has some spots as well as the Sparse Sundew Grove. I’ve been farming Bentats for a long time so I’m glad to see you shed light on this underrated chem Turtle :)
Back in the days when I ran the river for firecaps and snaptails for sugar, I start at the bend to the north, just by the bridge below the mine, goes all the way down on the left side picking up water, firecaps (there are several deposits) and snaptails and then finalize by doing the event with the firecaps in the building. You can also run the dry riverbed out to the larger river for more snaptails and then go north or south by the large river for more. I do that mainly for relish and the antibiotics. I haven't thought much about mentants; I don't run a junkie build, but I do have some Junkie weapons, so maybe I should just check it out. Thanks for the tip.
There is also a wandering chems trader that sells all of the drug recipes. So, always check the random NPC spawn points, especially if you don’t have access to the Enclave yet, because you might find her! Great job as always!
Typically I dont care to use consumables a lot as part of my build, but with such an efficient farming method like this, I may start to use them on a regular basis. Thanks Turtle!
I used to mass farm these to sell in my vendor, but tbh i would get irritated when i did 20-30 minutes of work just to sell them all instantly. Very good tutorial 👍

At the Monorail Elevator, on the south side of the western, or upper, elevator, there's a skeleton with a box of Firecaps. Maybe 5-6 or more scattered around the area.
I think that this video implied a talking point about Fallout 76 development. The Crafting System could use an overhaul. The condition stat for harvested items disincentivizes in-game wilderness exploration to support a minor degree of realism. If there were additional support for crafting, then it could include an activity in which harvested items are preserved while retaining their compatibility as ingredients in recipes. Following the story, it would make sense if the Brotherhood of Steel were to discover the brewing equipment at Vault-Tec University, and then adapt the chemical engineering equipment for industrial distillation. Distillation is sort-of a non-negligible process for the level of technology illustrated in the BoS environment, and the plot line interaction fits with the faction's mission of recovering technology. Speculatively the player could complete a quest line to gain the recipes for making distilled essences of plant ingredients.

The issue of realism has been a big problem from the start, and it manifests in UI glitches and new menu design. There is a storytelling problem in the world map menu, because the fast travel invokes a collision detection system like V.A.T.S. Beyond that, it's not clear how the map interface compounds the story, because it stores options about daily ops, quest information, and player-to-player interactions. Dialogue therein with the user also states the context of 'different worlds' in which servers store their version of the map with player camps. Different worlds are not explained at all in terms of the story, and that is where the fourth wall broke.

There's also a bunch of Brain Fungus at The Whitespring Service Entrance. Just go like you're going to get into The Enclave Bunker, but head the other direction to a bunch of dumpsters and there's Brain Fungus, skeletons for bone as well as cans for steel, oil and antifreeze.

PSA: Chem Fiend make your berry mentats last 2x as long. there is a mod for fo76 on nexus mods (sry only for pc) that makes all the plants glow bright, fallowing angry turtles performance mods tutorial, removing the grass will help find plants alot easier. there are 12 starlight plants near Black Mountain Ordnance Works
I loved this one so much. I'm up to 148 Berry Mentats. Love being able to pop these things as much as I want. Tons of carrot flowers at Meditation Ctr. What's the next farm? I can't wait!
I admire people who do this and craft a lot of stuff. At low levels, I was abit necessary and it was fun to discover location looking for plants. But after very soon, it became too much of an hassle :D and I always end up with a ton more chems than I could ever use and sell.
I’ve been doing this for that past few days. Works great, that’s why I asked about the 255 item reset limit. Ended up getting around 1500 in 2 days lol. Just put them on my mule 😁. Great video tho
Don't forget about the secondary Deep entrance north of the watchtower by the white spring lookout. You can skip going through the toxic water that way.

Sorry to anyone on xbox. My camp is located right around the route 64 sign. From what I've seen all the flora there is still accessible. The Palace of the Winding Path is also a great place for carrot flowers
This is useful. I was just going to grind crafting weapons and scraping them for quick exp. This instead helps me get something useful that doesn't expire in my inventory as well as crafting exp. Thank you.
Just as a FYI, there is a bug with Berry Mentats for the last 10-12 months. When you extend the duration via perks of biochemesh armor, it only extends the bonus to INT, it does not extend the life detection. If you only care about the INT bonus for EXP, just get addicted to mentats so you can see when it runs out.
Another tip for newer players, collect all the salt/pepper/spices and sugar that you find around diners and houses etc. You can sell these in the vendor for like 15-20 caps individually. Higher level players like making high tier food items, which require these ingredients.. and it saves them having to hunt them down as opposed to launching nukes and rekn noobs 😂👍🏻

Been grinding away on these and saving for the next double xp weekend. Have a little over 500 saved along with 150+ leader bobbleheads, shit ton of salt to make squirrel stew and 250+ lunchboxes. Finally was able to craft my final Unyielding SS armor piece with +1 intelligence. Damn near 75 intelligence while using all those buffs along side lunch boxes. Usually run expeditions, most times when i have to kill the overgrown keeper, i get anywhere between 4k-6k a kill. Normal human enemies ill grab 1800+
That's right near my camp and the best spot for me to gather what I need, always use green thumb! Then I'm off to big bend tunnels for brain fungus or sparse sundew grove. Then lvl 1 chemist and lvl 3 pharmacist to double what you make😊

For brain fungus I just go to the cave, the one where you start the Enclave quest, kill the 2 deathclaw, and then just pick those fungi up. It is a nice guide, since I don't normally make mentats, I get enough from my characters just running around. My drug dealer character already has 500+ berry mentats, so I am good to go, I, however, got a problem, trying to get Sugar Bombs for Brains bombs, I am still scratching my head over how to get enough...
@@EddySaints That character make all kind of chems, I Probably have more chems than Ammo on that character. I also have an Ammo dealer and a Weapon dealer. Well, oddly enough, my Drug dealer character is not addicted to any of the chems she sells.
The reason you probably have trouble finding them is that they arn't protected from auto-scrap. The blood sac drops from a bloodbug (but other things drop from bloodbugs too, so you may not find a blood sac). If you do get a blood sac you need to not scrap your junk using the scrap box.
I know its unrelated to this video but do you know if the excavator PA arm bonus is broken. It says it let's you yield twice as much while gathering ores but I pick some up check my inventory and only gives me 1 instead of 2. The use if green thumb in this video reminded me about it. Thank you for this video though its very helpful
It's a 4x bonus, not 2x and you need to use a full set. Some people thought that it's just a bonus to the arms or something, but the entire set is needed for the 4x ore bonus and +100 carry weight bonus.
Some ore like ultracite doesn't give double the amount, but since I only use it in lucky Mine for lead, I am not sure if it work outside a Mine(instance)

@@KM-jb3vg It still works for me, So I am lost, maybe it's because of PA mods on it, since we just found out that Strangle heart PA is bugged if you use it with some Legendary perks ? - Try make a new clean one if have the resources and only keep the Legs, since I am assuming you have calibrate legs on them.
Mentats recipe is in abbys bunker for free. I think abbys one of free states anyway. The one where her father forgets his password often to reset that fuse or whatever.

How much should i sell Berry Mentats for? Ive heard people say that they can be traded for rare plans bc they are sought after by high levels. Im usually selling them at 20c-25c each. People still buy but if people love berry mentats alot should i up the price?

About the Limitations of carnivore, It will work as normal water, just NO healing/hunger or buff, if you are cooking with a carnivore character, just look at the items you are making, you will see a lot of 0's from bonuses. Turtle made a video about it, But is like, 50% + 25% is not 75% armor piercing.. It is 50% off the damage, then 25% of what ever left.
@@stacymisakawatson5001 when you say healing, hunger and buffs isn't that everything? What about things that don't take vegetable or meats do they work? E.g. lemonade Also I just realized carnivores can only use soup for water apart from the boilded and purified water
@@lordjayden21 With soup, you will get your thirst bar up, but not healing/or hunger bar up, something like that. Otherwise, any other bonus is just 0... So is not everything, but nearly.. anything that around soup/thé/water based food/drinks is 0 bonus. Is a waste to make them, since is the same as drinking boiled water. So basically, the only way to see it is just look at the bonus or check wiki.
Max Out Inspirational (Charisma perk) give 15%, which is roughly the same as 7-8 INT, Around 70 INT and Granberry relish + lunchbox = 1.1k to 2k xp pr kills ( base on which creature you kill).
@@cartermariano I am using herbivore, so I never Eat SB Brain, So I can't tell :/ - The relish doesn't give INT but pure 20-25% XP bonus - or 10% without hherbivore, Also, you likely mistakes Brain bombs with Cranberry Relish - Is brain bombs and SB Brain which give INT.
2 Years later but here : i suggest ignoring the vault tec university farming for flowers , here is why , you can simply go to the palacew of the winding path and farm there , it has WAYY more and it is less time consuming , yes it costs like 15 caps to teleport there but it WILL definitly be better
LOL I have over 1000 Berry Mentats stored up on my alternate characeter. I've got the farming runs of these mats down to a science. 300 brain fungus a run, and 100 each of all the other mats equals a lot of berry mentats!
You can stack berry mentats, the canned food you get as reward in the Mama Dolce's event (Feed the People if I'm not mistaken) and broiled scorchbeast brains (this one gives you INT+8 if you have the carnivore mutation).

I have found that the Palace of the Winding Path is the BEST place to get carrot flower. Around 30 plants

i go to the Hopewell cave for fire crack berry's there is also brain fungus there, There is an entrance to the deep by white springs overlook tower

Sunshine Meadows industrial farm - Thats the place to go, if you want sugar bombs :)
But you want to use sugar bombs in recipes, It will not work's sorry if it was misleading.

@@EddySaints That character make all kind of chems, I Probably have more chems than Ammo on that character. I also have an Ammo dealer and a Weapon dealer. Well, oddly enough, my Drug dealer character is not addicted to any of the chems she sells.
Santa-tron brings back sugar bombs. If you have a private server, you can take the workshops and put a Santa-tron in each of them.

The reason you probably have trouble finding them is that they arn't protected from auto-scrap. The blood sac drops from a bloodbug (but other things drop from bloodbugs too, so you may not find a blood sac). If you do get a blood sac you need to not scrap your junk using the scrap box.

I know its unrelated to this video but do you know if the excavator PA arm bonus is broken. It says it let's you yield twice as much while gathering ores but I pick some up check my inventory and only gives me 1 instead of 2. The use if green thumb in this video reminded me about it. Thank you for this video though its very helpful
It's a 4x bonus, not 2x and you need to use a full set. Some people thought that it's just a bonus to the arms or something, but the entire set is needed for the 4x ore bonus and +100 carry weight bonus.
Some ore like ultracite doesn't give double the amount, but since I only use it in lucky Mine for lead, I am not sure if it work outside a Mine(instance)

@@KM-jb3vg It still works for me, So I am lost, maybe it's because of PA mods on it, since we just found out that Strangle heart PA is bugged if you use it with some Legendary perks ? - Try make a new clean one if have the resources and only keep the Legs, since I am assuming you have calibrate legs on them.

Mentats recipe is in abbys bunker for free. I think abbys one of free states anyway. The one where her father forgets his password often to reset that fuse or whatever.

About the Limitations of carnivore, It will work as normal water, just NO healing/hunger or buff, if you are cooking with a carnivore character, just look at the items you are making, you will see a lot of 0's from bonuses.
Turtle made a video about it, But is like, 50% + 25% is not 75% armor piercing.. It is 50% off the damage, then 25% of what ever left.
@@stacymisakawatson5001 when you say healing, hunger and buffs isn't that everything? What about things that don't take vegetable or meats do they work? E.g. lemonade Also I just realized carnivores can only use soup for water apart from the boilded and purified water
@@lordjayden21 With soup, you will get your thirst bar up, but not healing/or hunger bar up, something like that. Otherwise, any other bonus is just 0... So is not everything, but nearly.. anything that around soup/thé/water based food/drinks is 0 bonus. Is a waste to make them, since is the same as drinking boiled water.
So basically, the only way to see it is just look at the bonus or check wiki.
Hopewell Cave has a bunch of firecrackers as well as brain fungus.
Also the tunnel on the high way top right of Monanga has plenty of brain fungus
Slocum Joes is also good for Firecaps.
Does intelligence really affect the EXP gain because it doesn't say so in the game?
I believe it's 2% exp for each INT point.
Max Out Inspirational (Charisma perk) give 15%, which is roughly the same as 7-8 INT, Around 70 INT and Granberry relish + lunchbox = 1.1k to 2k xp pr kills ( base on which creature you kill).
@@stacymisakawatson5001 I don't remember if you can stack the relish with the broiled SB brain, that's INT+8.
@@cartermariano I am using herbivore, so I never Eat SB Brain, So I can't tell :/ - The relish doesn't give INT but pure 20-25% XP bonus - or 10% without hherbivore, Also, you likely mistakes Brain bombs with Cranberry Relish - Is brain bombs and SB Brain which give INT.

2 Years later but here : i suggest ignoring the vault tec university farming for flowers , here is why , you can simply go to the palacew of the winding path and farm there , it has WAYY more and it is less time consuming , yes it costs like 15 caps to teleport there but it WILL definitly be better
LOL I have over 1000 Berry Mentats stored up on my alternate characeter. I've got the farming runs of these mats down to a science. 300 brain fungus a run, and 100 each of all the other mats equals a lot of berry mentats!
Also firecap behind the giant teapot ;)
The tunnel that follows the main road out of watoga is good for brain fungus

You can stack berry mentats, the canned food you get as reward in the Mama Dolce's event (Feed the People if I'm not mistaken) and broiled scorchbeast brains (this one gives you INT+8 if you have the carnivore mutation).
