Ed is a human, he connects with people on a level Cameron could only dream of. he has a sense of humour, and seems genuine. he's what the majority of people say they want in a leader, but the smear campaign against him clouds people's views. he is by no means polished, but that's no bad thing. I would be proud to have him as a PM.
***** we can do policies if you like. Mansion Tax seems fair, 50p top rate of tax seems fair. Some spending cuts on non vital public services seems responsible. Some control on immigration seems sensible. Banning the majority of zero hour contracts seems fair. Setting up a public bank to loan to small businesses seems positive. Improving mental health training and funding in the NHS makes sense. Guaranteeing jobs for young people who have been out of work seems like a good idea. Introducing better skill based, vocational qualifications and apprenticeships is good, as is reducing tuition fees. Capping bankers bonuses seems fair to me. Ensuring that private health companies profits are capped seems morally sound. Freezing energy bill prices seems fair. Removing fuel allowance for the elderly who can afford to do without seems financially responsible. Ensuring that employers of both British and immigrant workers pay the minimum wage makes sense, as does raising the minimum wage and encouraging businesses to pay a living wage so that more income tax revenue can be collected seems like a sound way of cutting the deficit to me. These are the ones that came to mind but there are many more.
***** or was it the banks? public borrowing went up to protect the savings of the people. Brown then got economy growing at the same rate in two years as it is now. but that isn't a popular view in many headlines is it so I suppose a UKIP voter wouldn't believe it.
***** The Tories were arguing for lesser regulation. Miliband has admitted and apologised and said that New Labour got it wrong, and I believe and agree with that. I disagree that parties cannot have an impact. The coalition has quite happily been able to create the conditions for those at the very top to be responsible for more of the country's wealth than ever before. We are seeing the effect they are having on public services, and the effects of the tax policies they have introduced, both good and bad. All in the 5 year term of a coalition government the majority of people did not expect to last the first summer. Nobody expects a party to be able to implement every single aspect of their manifesto but the difference between the Tories and Labour is much bigger than the media like to make people believe, and that difference will definitely be felt, regardless of which of them gets into power. If you took that comment as a literal one, then I would ask you to reassess your judgement, obviously it was a remark on Ed's character. Seeing him doing this interview he's quite a genuine person. let's see if he governs if he's actually genuine and truthful like he seems in this interview.
just watched a radio interview in which ed miliband asked them to play Bastille and panickedly asked if that was bad when the DJ laughed. loved that Great interview with Ed Miliband on Absolute Radio. Came across superbly.
benofclifton Agree,...Unfortunately the "Other Guy" the bothers me most is the "Robot Ed" that they haul out to all major TV appearances. The dead-eyed one, autonomously pivoting from questions to talking points, with all the diodes down his right-hand side malfunctioning resulting in the constant uncontrolled chopping of his right hand. That guy does this guy and the rest of us no favors. His media trainers must be paid by Conservative HQ.
I'm starting to like him more and more to be honest and I am starting to see why he was branded Red Ed in the past; there are some clear divisions in the policies between the Labour and Conservative manifestos and some of them are distinctly more left-wing than Labour have undertaken in the last 20 years or so. I'll probably still vote SNP, but I definitely want Ed Miliband to be PM.
Miike Hunt At least Ed Miliband won't be expecting society's most vulnerable to pay for the mistakes of greedy bankers. Also, you seem to be confusing Ed with Tony Blair. Two totally different people. Labour aren't like the Tories. They change when things start to fail.
MrsTudor1 If Ed is for PM the country is doooooooooooooooooom, Mass immigration, more welfare state, larger gov sector, and keep taxing the rich more and more........ and I am not fan of cameron either. I just think they both the same, what we need is a TRUE leader and cut welfare and gov sector jobs.
JohnAlejandro I know these interviews are set up by spin doctors, but they can't spin him a personality can they. All I said was that hes got one, unlike the sun "newspaper" that likes to claim that he hasn't.
I'm not massively into British politics (not from the UK) so I won't talk politics, but Geoff Lloyd is slowly becoming a favorite interviewer of mine. His Game of Thrones interviews are really great too, very humanizing interviews with kids and politicans .. two opposite ends of the spectrum!
It's great to see this kind of interview with politicians; makes them seem more human somehow and reminds us that they're just people like the rest of us at the end of the day...
dlk1dlk1 More money for the rich, more damage to the NHS,more poverty, more food banks, more zero hours contracts, more tax avoidance, more bedroom tax, more homelessness, more cuts to firefighters and the poice, low aspirations for young people, higher University fees is a credible alternative???
***** You are wrong about the Conservatives' record on jobs; they have mostly been good quality jobs and 2 million in five years-that is a record. But the main point is that it is YOUR money. Never mind rattling off a list of new taxes: it is YOUR money they will be using.
He's so genuine and to the point in everything he says, no avoidance. Also I hate seeing people blame the old labour for the credit crash in 2008, it was a worldwide problem not just britain. It wasn't solely Labours fault it was the banks. That is the only point David Cameron has over Miliband and it isn't even completely true.
Jessiepinkman The banks were forced and encouraged by the state to act they way they did. And, yes, it was a worldwide problem. But, the UK government debt wasn't a worldwide problem.
I am pretty glad that Ed Miliband won against his brother. Tony Benn, a great man, said that the difference between them is that Ed is a true socialist and David is a New Labour subscriber in the style of Tony Blair. I hope that Ed's leadership of the party leads to a return to the Labour of old that truly was for the working people.
***** I'm no fan of the Labour Party but to suggest that Labour destroyed the country is laughable and pig ignorant. The national debt has increased by £500 billion since 2010, 3 times more than under Labour in the previous 13 years when public borrowing was at historically low levels. To compare Miliband to Cameron is ridiculous and illustrates the curtain twitching, narrow minded and myopic propaganda pumped out by the right wing media. Cameron is a direct descendant of William IV and who has £5 million family estate in the Berkshire countryside as well as inherited wealth from his father's business which got rich from tax dodging and stashing money offshore. Conservative estimates put his personal wealth at £30 million. Samantha Cameron is a direct descendant of Charles 2nd and is set to inherit a £50million 300 hectare estate in the Lincolnshire countryside. Miliband is the son of Jewish immigrants who fled persecution during WW2. The property which makes him a millionaire was inherited from his parents who started from nothing. They didn't obtain it via a dodgy antiquated feudal birthright that bestows many of the feral rich in Britain.
Nice human being. Pity the publicity people haven't let us see more of this and what a change from the others always talking cliches and having to get every point in regardless. Dare Cameron to try and do and interview like this instead of his usual robotic behaviour.
Nice human being? Ed says: "I like swotting up on the Middle East" ME: Is that why you didn't know how much the average family spends on groceries each week - BECAUSE YOU'RE TOO BLOODY INTERESTED IN STRUTTING THE WORLD STAGE WITH THE U.S. PRESIDENT & HIS BLOODY MIDDLE EAST INTERVENTIONS? Doesn't stop him being a nice human being. All we get from David Cameron is same old lines. Cameron seems to have no life outside No. 10. No hobbies other than bicycle riding which he stopped.
Joy B He's NOT a nice human being. HE TOOK A WHOLE FUCKING YEAR TO DECIDE HIS STANCE ON THE BEDROOM TAX, silencing Labour MPs during that period. He has made NO PROMISES to reverse the destructive and harmful policies & privatisations of the Tories, except the odd small policy change. He's continuing with the dogma that those out of work are lazy bastards. Labour is now WORSE THAN THE TORIES - they've said that they do NOT represent those out of work, including the disabled & terminally ill. All such people will be disenfranchised under Ed Miliband's leadership. He couldn't face a homeless woman, kept his back turned to her as he handed her 2 pence! Miliband is a multi-millionaire!! He wrote a eulogy for Margaret Thatcher, good friend to Augusto Pinochet, a mass murderer and torturer! I can't be bothered to write anymore. You're gullible in the extreme.
I didn't say I likes his party or his parties continued austerity policies. You are confusing his party policies with his personality. For all I know other leaders are nice human beings even if misled. I was commenting most on the fact that at least he wasn't being robotic and merely churning out statements on a permanent loop and possibly there is more of a chance there to get him to change policies than others as they won't even let electorate in. Personally I see my vote in the election going to the one that does the least damage rather than a party I am happy to support.
That's wierd, I get chicken tikka tandoori style from the Indian restuarant/takeaway, one of my favourite bands are Aha and I love the song Pompeii by another favourite band Bastille
Stop trying to make him appear down to earth and like the common man. He knows nothing about the struggle everyday people face. He was on the TV in the UK a while back didn't know how much the average family spent on shopping per week he looked a complete fool when he lied, You people will lap up this crap. His PR machine and his wider party are loving this interview you can just hear them sitting around the table watching this "Great Ed, you come across so down to earth here this will win votes we need more like this ed, let's avoid bacon sandwiches though..."
He comes across well in this, but then how could he not? How could anyone for that matter come out bad from such an informal interview? The debate last week showed a fumbling, desperate man trying his hardest to appear as if he was a man of the people. But really it's just a disguise, whether true or not, to hide Labour's clueless policies and incompetence. People should have seen through this, but apparently they didn't. I'd imagine it was something to do with Paxman playing straight into his hands with personal insults. He's now viewed as some sort of victim/underdog. It saved him from what should have been seen as a pummeling from Cameron (not that I'm a big fan of him either)
Well tell that to the 10,000 people or so who have died as a result of having their benefits sanctioned or cut as well as the thousands upon thousands of people that are now forced to use food banks in order to survive. We could throw in the chaos created in the NHS and education due to privatisation and tax payers' money being siphoned into private pockets. Now there is a huge brain drain of British trained nurses, doctors and teachers to Australia and New Zealand because of the constant denigration by dodgy Dave and his cronies and the draconian market mechanisms his government that demoralise these hard working individuals - the impact of which has created poorer services for the needy and children. The Tories and their banker mates who play alchemy in the City of London are an abomination on humanity. They are lower than vermin for the destruction they have bestowed on this country while they stuff their mouths with the cash they make from other people's sweat, suffering and hard work. No one should be using a food bank in the 6th richest country in the world.
Labours contempt for their traditional working class voters is and was evident when Gordon Brown called a life long labour voter a Bigoted woman (Gillian Duffy) back in 2010, 2 minutes after being nice to her face, when he thought he was in private but had accidentally left his Sky TV lapel microphone attached to his jacket.
Limited functionality on a BlackBerry , he must be using the old BlackBerry BOLD. The new Blackberry Classic , Passport , Z30 , LEAP you can check twitter etc...fast and efficiently anytime....
You couldn't be further from the truth. Over the last 5 years the right wing press have been trying to portray Ed as an incompetent moron. The fact is he's a really intelligent guy who wants a country that benefits the many not the few at the top.
Danny Boy And you couldn't be more naive. You don't know Ed personally, and politics is a game. You get elected with money and fooling the public into thinking the way you act is who you truly are and what you truly want. Also, I said "probably" and that I'd like to actually think he is like this. They all represent the exact same system.
He's not as evil as Cameron, but his policies are wrong. labour will put the country in a recession, again. Is tony blair's voice of approval not enough to stop you voting labour?
It's Balls I'm worried about. He seems to think everything can be solved by throwing money at it. Money we don't have, this is how we got into this mess in the first place.
Daniel May 1) Balls is more to the right than Miliband. He's the one that decided on cuts. So no. 2) Spending didn't cause the global financial crisis, the banks gambling with dodgy sub prime securitizations did (and the subsequent bailouts). And they were allowed to run amok because of loose regulations that the Conservatives endorsed and Balls has criticised.
Daniel May It's a myth that Labour borrowed too much. The Tory led Coalition have borrowed more in the last five years than Labour did in 13. They've nearly doubled the whole national debt from £800bn in 2010 to £1.5tn this year.
Ed is a human, he connects with people on a level Cameron could only dream of. he has a sense of humour, and seems genuine. he's what the majority of people say they want in a leader, but the smear campaign against him clouds people's views. he is by no means polished, but that's no bad thing.
Camoron and Milipede are just actors playing the 'good cop, bad cop' routine.
***** You forgot that Katie Hopkins said she'd leave the country :)
Ed's an alright bloke he is
Comes across a genuine likeable guy Ol' Ed. Really doesn't deserve the amount of abuse he gets.
Great interview and gives an insight into the 'real' guy ! He'll get my vote next month #GE2015 ......Ed for PM.
By far the best and most natural interview I have seen no forced laughing and self deprecating brilliant
David Cameron pulls a moony every time he shows his face in public.
Ed for PM!
Miike Hunt
At least Ed Miliband won't be expecting society's most vulnerable to pay for the mistakes of greedy bankers. Also, you seem to be confusing Ed with Tony Blair. Two totally different people. Labour aren't like the Tories. They change when things start to fail.
Miike Hunt
You failed at everything the minute you admitted you were UKIP.
And a beautiful relationship was born.
Would that be THE Joel Cornah?
@@me-dc8pj Certainly one of them!
When you acutally listen to him speak, instead of reading the right wing red top propaganda, he is a engaging guy with a personality!
JohnAlejandro I know these interviews are set up by spin doctors, but they can't spin him a personality can they. All I said was that hes got one, unlike the sun "newspaper" that likes to claim that he hasn't.
Ben Richards Labour didn't complain about the media when they were slobbering over Tony Blair.
What a good interview, I'm warming to him now.
Ed milliband is our guy
And he's so damn adorable nawww
Never thought I say this but he has my vote! Great interview, nice to see a politician who can have a laugh and be more human!
He likes Larry David and Woody Allen...
This is very good news.
***** Sorry, you're right. That is a good news. I read it in a rush
***** curb is very good. Just saying
The more and more I watch Ed, the more and more I warm to him. Larry David, Wood Allen. YES Ed! Go GEEK!
***** So what, you're going to vote for him now?
Samuel Archer I vote geek, whomever that may fall on
***** I heard that Nigel Farage is partial to some hentai and programming + Mountain Dew.
If he's prepared to come out and admit that, yes, by my own admission, I'd have to vote for him
***** I'm proud to call you my son.
Never been a great fan of Ed, but must say he has been easily the best of the party leaders so far in this election.
Nice to see Miliband being interviewed by someone who isn't a completely biased bellend.
It's great to see this kind of interview with politicians; makes them seem more human somehow and reminds us that they're just people like the rest of us at the end of the day...
I've really warmed up to Ed after this interview!
Aw Iv always loved Ed, I could even say he's inspirational! Xx
can I just give him a hug? #adorable
i'm voting conservative but ed seems like a great guy and more personable than the other parties
All I see is a weakling which got bullied in school most likely. That is not the image of a leader. I can't see Ed as PM.
XBR4Da Maybe true, but what about more debt, more borrowing, more taxes, more Europe, more immigration??
dlk1dlk1 More money for the rich, more damage to the NHS,more poverty, more food banks, more zero hours contracts, more tax avoidance, more bedroom tax, more homelessness, more cuts to firefighters and the poice, low aspirations for young people, higher University fees is a credible alternative???
Juliet Lubega How is Ed Miliband supposedly going to PAY for his plans exactly?
I love Ed, he's a great guy and funny too.
This guy is great
Ed has got my vote !
Brilliant!
I'll admit to having wavered up until a few weeks ago but I will be voting Labour. Cameron and the Tories out!!
Well, blimey! Ed was watching the match at Headingley [Boycott's 100th 100] I was outside walking up St Michael's Lane....
Go on Ed my son! Seems all of a sudden liberated by the election campaign. With the confidence of someone who knows he's winning the argument.
Okay...so I was thinking of voting for Green or some other party but damn. Ed came across really well and down to earth. Nice one Ed.
So upset their podcast is over
I won't be voting for him but this is great interview by ed miliband
***** well thats probably because we don't vote directly for our PM. Silly sausage.
Why not? Is there any chance I could convince you?
I back Ed!
Ed is right - the Labour Party has never been so united in opposition as during the last five years.
Alison Lane The question is will they be able to unite with the SNP. If they don't they'll remain in opposition
good that he is honest
Ed miliband is so handsome!
Seems like a good guy!
morrossey Compared to David 'Long Term Economic Plan' Cameron he comes across as a genuine guy, albeit a bit goofy. But at least he has a personalty.
Vote Labour! Get the millionaires out of office! We are in need of real humans in there not the cold blooded reptiles.
Miliband is a millionaire...
Why the fuck would you destroy our country further by voting labour?
Miliband is a millionaire also btw ;)
***** so i am so what !!!
davros576 You said "to compare Miliband to Cameron is ridiculous".
And then you did.
Just watched Theresa May's Brexit speech and came to this to cheer myself up a little bit. :')
Nice human being. Pity the publicity people haven't let us see more of this and what a change from the others always talking cliches and having to get every point in regardless. Dare Cameron to try and do and interview like this instead of his usual robotic behaviour.
Nice human being?
Ed says: "I like swotting up on the Middle East"
ME: Is that why you didn't know how much the average family spends on groceries each week - BECAUSE YOU'RE TOO BLOODY INTERESTED IN STRUTTING THE WORLD STAGE WITH THE U.S. PRESIDENT & HIS BLOODY MIDDLE EAST INTERVENTIONS?
Ed: Yes, that's about right.
In 1997, when Ed asked a friend of his father what he would do if he was just elected, the friend said: nationalise the railways - that's what the public wants! Ed rolled his eyes in disdain!
Ed took an entire year to decide his stance on the bedroom tax - this, despite suicides as a result of it. Ed has now decided that the Labour party does NOT represent anyone out of work, even those who are terminally ill.
Ed wrote a eulogy for MARGARET THATCHER.
I could go on, but the British public are largely a bunch of imbecilse who'll lap up any superficial bullshit that politicians thrown at them.
The last Labour government introduced tuition fees, privatised huge amounts of the NHS and invaded Iraq.
If he had said he cried at the end of Return of the King, and his favourite comedian is Jim Jefferies I'd have be more excited
For me none of this was a revelation. I always knew he was a nice normal guy despite what people tried telling me
That was funny at the end.
Based Milhouse.
I want him to be the next president
*Prime Minister
bravo
Ed, Edd and Eddie
I'm voting Labour, because I'm generous with other people's money.
For a split second, I thought the music was Wagner. That would have been inappropriate.
neonatalpenguin Most British people are so ignorant these days that they wouldn't understand your comment.
It's Grieg
Managed to bear 8 whole seconds of ed millaband. Wow that's got to be a record easily.
Paxman was trying to entertain not actually interview the politicians.
Good bloke, comes across as witty and personable. His party in charge of the country would be disastrous though.
No one should be using a food bank in the 6th richest country in the world.
and the geeks shall inherit the earth
Labours contempt for their traditional working class voters is and was evident when Gordon Brown called a life long labour voter a Bigoted woman (Gillian Duffy) back in 2010, 2 minutes after being nice to her face, when he thought he was in private but had accidentally left his Sky TV lapel microphone attached to his jacket.
dee fridge She was a bigot.
Limited functionality on a BlackBerry , he must be using the old BlackBerry BOLD. The new Blackberry Classic , Passport , Z30 , LEAP you can check twitter etc...fast and efficiently anytime....
you are right, no such thing as the average family.
I'd like to think he's actually like this, but because it's pre-election, most of this is probably a facade.
OK I trust him with a video game, but not a countries government.
He seems like a nice guy but not convinced he would be a good PM.
Tim97107 Compared to Cameron he's the lesser of two evils.
I know lots of lovely people. Its great isn't it, doesn't mean i think they would make a great PM. Opposite in fact.
Hope Ed wins and gets rid of the bl... bedroom tax.
Ain't nothing wrong with a-ha.
