Hi alex, i am regular watching your video. i could not understand the grammer of mary being promoted. can you more elaborate it please.
Wonderful! Thank you so much
My pleasure. Thanks for studying with me.
Thank you so much!!!!
Hi
We get to encounter such tricky sentences in Advanced grammar tests.
How would one then explain the difference between:
"Thank you for your help."
And
"Thank you for your helping."
Thanks for your help is much more common. “Help” is a noun so it’s easy to put it after a possessive adjective (your.) “Helping” is technically okay grammatically, but it’s not common at all. Stick to “Thank you for your help” in this case if your goal is common usage.
Thanks.
thank you so much!! after this video, it's clear :)
thank you so much
thank you
Helpful👍
Hi alex. O the second example can I say 'Mary's promotiong'?
Thanks! By the way, what's the difference btw "her dance is beautiful" and "her dancing is beautiful"? Thanks!

Your lesson is great, but I've not seen possessive gerunds' being used in formal academic english even. Is it that modern English writing style has changed or something?
Thanks
Not at all. It's not something you're going to see all over the place, but it is something that exists and does show up in academic texts, news reports, etc.
@@engvidAlex Thank you very for taking time, I've gone over many essays and cambridge english text, for examples, global warming can result in people leading an uncomfortable lives, shouldn't it be people's leading an uncomfortable lives.
Please comment
@@engvidAlex hey man, i've been looking for an official article that includes that but i couldn't find one. Can you send a link of one if you can? especially an article from oxford or cambridge would be nice
Hello! Thank you for the video! By the way, have you got anything about the post-possessives?
I've never heard of those, and google doesn't show me anything for that term either. What are post possessives?
Hello! Thanks for your quick response! I've found that and would like to watch a video explanation: engramm.su/grammar/double_possessive , but there's no anything similar on the internet)))
Nice
alex, very useful, thks :)
Could you please explain when noun ( gerund ) is used and when the gerund is not use ?
1 How much studying should I prepare for Tests tomorrow .
2. I will continue my studies tomorrow.
thanks for your help vs thanks for your helping
which one is correct ?
possessive gerund makes me confused.
Wow
🙏🏼
I understood that perfectly but, what is it for?
What's Its function?
Could someone explain me please
Thanks.
To write in a more sophisticated way
So is the sentence: "I appreciate you coming here" correct?
Hi, Alex, just a quick clarification: it’s not the gerunds that are possessive but rather the adjectives (my, your, his, her, its, our, their).
very nice, thank you!!!
My pleasure. Thanks for studying with me!
Thanks❤
No problem. 👍
Hola, porque toda la clase lo hablan en ingles den la explicacion en español para poder entenderlos, gracias.
Thanks..
You're welcome!
.
The original examples are absoletely correct, new ones are old-fashioned. Both can be used
One should be excused then, Alex, because I more often than not get to hear such wrong structure from English native speakers. But I'm not sure whether it's an American or British thing, any idea?
What about this sentence: "We are looking forward to your reading this book" Could you help me, please?
Would it be better to say " to you reading this book"?
Thank you teacher .it so clear, and thank you Saif Msk for your help about writing essay.I am bed at writing.
R.I.P english
What is "promoted" in mary's being promoted
Are you asking what it means, or what part of speech it is? It's a past participle. It means to be offered a higher position/job in a company.
Got it. Yes, i wanna know the part of speech.
why have you used '' your coming here'' instead of using ' yours'? can you please explain me
yours is the pronoun... this is your dog (ppssesive adjective)... this dog is yours (pronoun).. in this case you need to use the possesive adjective as it is placed before the noun
Also, "Can you explain it TO me?"
Someone would have to know you very, very well in order to explain you :)
that what I'm looking for.
This is a basic video explaining possessive gerunds but not helpful. It is a simple rule but the teacher hasn't stated the formality and use. What about informal alternatives to help learners?
