I’ve evolved from Callaway and Taylormade into Mizuno starting with the STX, STX220, SZX230 and finally into the ST Max and each generation was a definite upgrade over the last. The 230 is a fantastic driver but the Max is crazy forgiving without giving up feel, sound and ball speed. This is definitely the best Mizuno driver yet!
I'm what you would call a Mizuno fan boy!!! I've been playing nothing but Mizuno clubs for almost 20yrs. I've played MX 500, 560, and currently still play the MX-700 driver from 10 plus years ago. I've never felt the need to change it, it just worked for me. I got a itch for something new last week. I decided to order an ST 230 MAX. I can't wait for it to show up!
I just got the Mizuno STZ 230. It’s my first Mizuno driver and absolutely love it! Very forgiving and has added more yards to my drives. Highly recommend it!
Good review Chris, but you should be using the same golf ball when testing. The Kirkland will most likely spinning 400-500 more revs off the driver than most golf balls.(which would count for your lack of distance outside.)
I have just bought (2 weeks ago) the Mizuno STX 220 for £200 at clearance. Fair to say I was due an upgrade from my 10 year old Taylormade R1. Have hardly missed a fairway in 4 rounds and off centre hits hardly seem to suffer any loss of distance and it is already proving to be a game changer for me. I would highly recommend anyone to consider Mizuno when changing their driver.
Love my Mizzy STX-230 driver. Underrated and appreciated. Worth a test by people. Love saying mine is Mizuno when people ask. Is it the longest ever? No. Is it long enough? Yes. It works for me just fine. Goes with my couple of sets of irons by Mizuno.
Mizuno drivers are often overlooked, but I think they are quality and represent great value for money (important to me as a Yorkshireman!). I got the ST200 driver about 3 and a half years ago brand new for £260 as a replacement for my trusty Titleist 915D2 (after a very brief spell with a Cobra King F9 which I couldn't get on with) with a similar Diamana Blue S+60 stiff shaft and it works well. I think my brother must have thought it wasn't too bad as he got the ST-Z driver a year or so later to replace his Taylormade M6, again for a very reasonable price and he likes it. I would say give them a try compared to the big boys as you might just be pleasantly surprised.
If you are going to compare 2 drivers, you need to use the same model of ball for each. The Kirkland ball could easily be the cause of the shorter Cobra drive.
@kenrehill8775 the paradym? Absolutely fantastic. I didn't even hit it at first because it seemed "out of my skill zone" but the guy at the shop had me hit it and I was crushing it and hitting straight. And all year this year driving has actually been my strong suit!
I usually don’t warm up because your usually too late to allow it Chris, or it’s so that you have a slight advantage in our matches 😂
Try reading this without Dave’s voice😂

Dispersion looked better with the Mizuno. For everyday golfers this is the key factor in scoring low, keeping the ball in front of you.

As a Dave ... i always warm up. Additionally, Mizuno putters are fire, I think their range is deceptively competitive

I tried the old T-zoid driver awhile ago and it was awful. Turned me off of Mizuno drivers. I may have to re-evaluate this stance after this review
They never sell, they missed the mark here with their drivers AGAIN!!!!!
Undercut all the major brands and market the hell out of it!! B

The mizuno stz 230 is fantastic, almost beat out the paradym triple diamond for me
How are you getting on with it six months later?

the cobra looked bigger to me
This is not a proper comparison, should have used the G-model, this driver wasn't made for your level of expertise.....
I totally agree, comparing a LS spin model with a max model is like apples and oranges
