After years of thinking a "wood" was something you hit only from the tee box (I used to own a Progen Full Bore 3w with a steel shaft, go figure, that head would qualify as a mini driver today), I had a couple of lessons again to figure out if I could fix my decrease of speed due to age. Byproduct was that I dared to go for a 5 wood, and because I liked my new driver (STZ 230) and LINQ shaft so much, I took a calculated risk on the 230Max. Absolutely love it, I would like to say it's crazy forgiving, but I have only the Progen to compare it to, so that wouldn't be fair. Cranked down a degree to 17 it fixed the gap to my driver. After 20 or so range balls I CARRIED the first tee shot from the course a flush 200 yards which is huge for my low side of average swing speed.
I’m liking these new Mizuno’s. I’m hitting the STX220 in the 5 & 6 hybrids and love the descent angle. Consistent distances too! This new model looks even better.
Excellent review. Really enjoyed it. Only suggestion would be to have a slower swing player hit these clubs as that’s the player these clubs are designed for.
If it helps, I'm a slow side of medium swing speed (driver at 90-91 mph) and for me the 5 wood ST230 max is working very well (LINQ red regular shaft). The 3 wood just wouldn't launch effectively enough

Judging by the gap I now see between my Driver and 5w, I agree that (if flushed off the deck or hit 'reasonably well' from a tee) I would also come close to my driver distance. Problem for me is just the success rate in hitting middle. The shorter shaft on a 5w and extra bit of loft just offer that little more help than a 3w would. Which is entirely down to me as in my first 25 years of golf, I never had a fairway wood. So subsequently hitting it properly it still something I am working on.
Mizuno just don't cut it for me, mainly the Prices are very high for mediocre return, i am not a fan boy of any brand, i want something that works and isn't over-priced to the Max (bad pun).
$100 less than the other major brand’s new drivers and essentially the same performance. Not a fan boy of any brand either which is why I placed my order for the ST-MAX driver after hitting them all. Can’t wait for it to arrive.

I have a 121 club head speed with the driver and use it, stop saying designed for, get fit.
Waist of time using a player with a swing speed that fast. Most viewers interested in this Max line are average speed players.

This comment couldn’t possibly make less sense. These drivers are priced considerably lower than other OEM’s, with extremely comparable performance.
