In the space-colony simulation game Oxygen Not Included you’ll find that scarcities of oxygen, warmth and sustenance are constant threats to your colony's survival. Guide colonists through the perils of subterranean asteroid living and watch as their population grows until they're not simply surviving, but thriving...
Just make sure you don't forget to breathe.
Build Extensive Bases and Discover What it Takes to Survive:
Everything in your space colony is under your control, from excavation and resource allocation right down to plumbing and power systems. Resources will begin depleting with your first breath, however, so be sure to dig fast if you want to live.
It’s Mind Over Matter with Stress Simulations:
Keep the psychological impact of survival at bay with fun leisure activities, great accommodations and even better food for your colony. Duplicants each have different and potentially destructive ways of reacting to stress, so be sure to always keep them happy. Whatever the cost.
Avoid Boiling with Thermodynamics:
Temperature control is a constant concern in space; too cold and you'll freeze, too hot and you'll fry. Keep tabs on ambient environmental temperatures and your colony's heat production to maintain a nice, cozy atmosphere for your colonists.
Enhance Efficiency through Complex Gas and Liquid Simulations:
Create interlocking pipe systems to swiftly deliver fuel and liquid to critical areas of your base. Plan well and be rewarded as your colony transforms into an imperishable, well-oiled machine.
Take Charge with Power Grid Simulations:
Choose from a multitude of power sources including coal, hydrogen, natural gas or just plain old elbow grease. Manage power runoff, circuit overloads and meltdowns to keep your colony running smoothly.
Always Keep Yourself Breathing:
Enter the Oxygen Overlay and watch air moving through your base in real-time. Monitor carbon dioxide accumulation and oversee oxygen generation processes to mold your colony into a veritable deep-space oasis.
Waste Nothing through Extreme Recycling:
Make use of every last resource for a base that truly exemplifies efficiency. Recycle waste into precious fuel, process unbreathable gas into air, or harness the natural bodily processes of wild creatures for food. If you’re clever, you might even be able to run a base off colonist farts.
Explore Diverse, Procedurally Generated New Worlds:
Summon new worlds with a push of a button. Experience tons of untamed space rocks, then suffocate to death in them!

Yes base game + DLC with a bunch of mods for sprinkles.
So THAT'S the best way to completely purify water in this game! I have seen other tutorials that are like "Ah just let your dupes contract food poisoning it isn't that bad!" but it is nice to have an actual option to fully purify it instead!

I sometimes hate this game for absolutely unrealistic contraptions - like watertanks put upon autodoors, airlocks made with water etc., etc.
Excellent playthrough anyway;)

@@sinaa8652 when they open they prevent the liquid storage from operating because it needs to be on solid tiles to work

The doors under the tanks were a nice idea. I prefer to just automate the liquid vent from one of the tanks (via a Not gate)

Just discovered this series and im now binge watching it. Good series. FYI i have built cleaning systems like this before and it works with micrograms (mcg) of chlorine. Water tanks dont care how much of an atmosphere they're in, just that there IS atmoshphere. 👍
I wasn't sure how much chlorine is needed, I knew it wasn't the full amount but I usually end up putting in the full amount because it is more satisfying to me :-)

I only use your super compact automated water cleaning setup ever since I saw your tutorial since it’s simply the best setup to go for :) but it’s nice to see you exploring different contraptions
We don't have access to plastic yet, so I had to keep it simpler;)
@@Nathans-Sandbox for some reason when I tried this contraption and set the threshold to 50 high 20 low, it just kept on running once my tanks are full … and now I have 2 pools of germy water 😱 I must have missed something….
Have you made sure there is no water on the ground and the doors open and close at the right time?

This is exactly what I was talking about yesterday! Every time you think you can get the chlorine room sealed up something messes it up!
Out of curiosity, why do you pump the CO2 out of your base instead of using a carbon skimmer?
We can use the CO2 for short distance rockets later on, which we need a lot because the teleporters are disabled.

Hard to say, it usually changes from year to year. Doing UA-cam also doesn't allow me to play all the games I would otherwise.
Dups used to corner access bins, it's been removed recently.

This episode had me wondering if we are even playing the same game. The water purification went so far over my head hahaha!
It can be hard keeping the vacuum inside the bleach stone storage. What I would suggest people do copying this design is to place a horizontal see through door 2 squares below the pump. Dupes can still throw in the bleach stones through it even if they are prevented to pass.

I have a budding channel and so far I have Surviving Mars gameplay, but I've been practicing on my first Oxygen Not Included base! I made a similar chlorine sterilization system to fix a germ problem, and also had no plastics for a sensor. I learned 2 things from this. a) you only need the tiles 3/4 full of chlorine to sterilize water through b) 4 tanks. I did however love the vacuum thing, so using my double airlock system I already had, I added some automation switches and a pump, filled a storage bin in the middle chamber with bleach stone while the water tank chamber was vacuumed out, then opened the door between the now chlorine filled small chamber with the main chamber and let them fill up. worked like a charm and do-able at low tech levels as well.
Then I got some Pacu, and found out they not only clean polluted water, but also germy water. I was so happily surprised. Now I'm working on cooling the water heh.... and fuel... I need to rebuild my hatch ranch because I've run into coal issues, my only Natural gas vent went dormant and I haven't found any oil beyond a leaky oil geyser. I'm hoping to find an oil well or slicksters as I strip mine down, but I have a lot of polluted/germy water to store before I can do that.
You can use germy polluted water to make reeds, and use the reeds for decoration tasks as well as atmosuits.

thank you for the detailed explanations! I'm gonna try this build. I've always build myself water purification system using 3 cycle sensors and its very not efficient especially when i have huge amount to dirty water to deal with
Yeah I used do to it with sensors and the speed is always a problem later on.

since liquid vents have a automation port, just run a cable from your third water tank to the liquid vent and open it only if the tank is filled between 50%-100%, all the door shenanigans are not needed :)
But wouldn't there still be some blobs of water that are polluted, if we use this method.
that's why you need buffer tanks so that the clorine has enough time to clean the germs before the water reaches the vent. If i remember correctly 3 tanks is the minimum, if you want to be 100% sure use the first or second tank for the automation wire
Probably late now, but won't the mech airlocks destory most of the chlorine gas eventually

You only really need a door under the last polluted water reservoir with the automation on the first one. Once they are all full the last one will always be germless.
That would be an eye sore though, now in idle stage I have all tanks at the same liquid level😂
I normally don't get anxiety watching ONI...like watching Nascar I kind of want the crash. But when they were building that Chlorine floor from above, I was like "GET OUT OF THERE OTTO!"

The water has to stop for a few to kill the germs. You could put a 1000 tanks and you'd still have germs. There are builds with 3 tanks each with a door under them. On timers that get the job done without a germ senor.
Now we have something even better.
@@Nathans-Sandbox I think your system might stop working once all the tanks are full enough.
From memory, seven full tanks will steralise a 10kg/s flow, but yeah, they need to be full to start with. Easy to manage with the entry tank automation connected to an output valve.

@@Nathans-Sandbox Volcanoes/magma layer + steam engine/aqua tuner, although if you're lucky enough to have a slush geyser in the right place that could make for a good low power solution, would just need to run the pumps.

Wait, we can purify using the water tanks? I always get frustrated trying to purify mine with boiling in an open tank and setting a 0 germ sensor to open an airlock to drain it into another open tank to then pump and make a massive cooling system to get it to useable temperature, and..... wow, I feel like an idiot.

I intended to make 2 more epiosdes on Factorio but with this new ONI series UA-cam gave me something I never had in 10 years, so I'm aftaid now to relelase anything else that could destroy it (made that mistake on the past). When ONI hype is over I will finish Factorio.
are you sure this method works now? I did exactly what you said even in Sandbox but it doesn't work. It says there is polluted water inside it. and at the end of the cycle polluted water comes out and it doesn't say anything about germs

my reservoir says zero germs but when i pipe it out into the tank it has food poisoning germs. How can I fix this?
Hm, that doesn't sound right. Have you hooked up enough tanks and did the trick with the doors I'm using here?
I know it reason because I went through this. The reason is tanks directly transports what inside them when they have connected to input via pipes or vent for example If you connect the output to a pipe switch that is closed, it will still send water to switch because the tank output connected to the input of the switch, but the water will not pass the switch. Therefore water goes out from the tank with germs
Some knows how i could suprime the notifications? Cause i didnt have that option...
