- CenterPoint Energy is asking for people to leave its power crews alone after incidents involving threats and attacks. More than 600,000 people are still without power after Hurricane Beryl made landfall on Monday.

The real issue is ERCOT and the county/state govt. They do not want to regulate electrical providers so there is nothing that can really force them to repair or even upkeep the lines. That's not the fault of the linemen and some of these are even from completely different states. People are angry at how our electrical system is operated and taking it out on the wrong people.
My husband is one of those workers, he came down there from several states away. They had a guy get fentanyl poisoning from a bottle of water someone gave them, which they believe was intentional because people are angry. He says there’s been at least one bomb threat called in, and he has had people treat him with with hostility. At this point, I am really beginning to fear for his safety. Please people, don’t take it out on the workers! It isn’t their fault - they’re just trying to fix it!

I was without power 13 days after Hurricane Ike in 2008 and being on septic and well water in Pearland no power no water not easy with 14 Dogs and two Horses when the line crew made the final connection that restored power I walked across the street to thank them for all their hard work I’ll never forget they had come all the way from Cleveland Ohio.

1. Under certain weather conditions they are not supposed to work on the lines. Backfeed, grounds , etc..
2. Their your neighbors, so their power is off and they are away from their families also.
3. The problem is they just like alot of other companies downsized and work the crap out of the ones they kept.
4. This was an Hurricane

I hate to bring politics into this but it seems that's the way America is heading. As soon as Abbott got in his top priority was to deregulate the power grid / companies and he and the others succeeded. I was without power for more than a week when Hurricane Harvey hit a few years ago. It was hot and uncomfortable but it's just crazy to attack the line crews. What is wrong with people??? Houston is out of control.

A lot of those crew aren't even from Centerpoint. They have come from all over the country, traveling hundreds of miles, spending 16 hours a day and more in the heat and not seeing their own families for weeks on end. Aren't things bad enough? Some of you act like you haven't ever been thru a hurricane, flooding, tornadoes, fire storms. Come on Houston - be better than this.
Wow.. Centerpoint did drop the ball being ready for the storm. The help is here. Help them to help us. We're so spoiled to the fact we depend on the luxury of electricity. No one even thinks of how it was before electricity.

I’m from Houston, born and raised here. I’ve been through storms where the power had been out for 3 weeks. I’m so grateful that we were without power for only 5 days.. we are at the mercy of these linemen, they could just say FU and leave.. Don’t make it worse!!

You do understand these crews do not work 24/7 and get rest periods right? They also do safety briefings and since most crews are out of the area they are dispatched by an area supervisor and usually shown where the work area is. To say you did not see it so it did not happen is hilarious. Because all the lineman carry video cameras and stop their work to record things instead of keeping working or leaving the area. Trash humans.
Yeah, I agree that people shouldn't attack the workers. However, the CEO is an idiot. He probably could have picked a better background to make that speech at than a parking lot full of utility trucks sitting and doing nothing.

I drove through Houston four years ago in my RV. I remember thinking that the city looked apocalyptic and praying to not break down. I'll never drive through Houston, ever again. And that was when everything was working!

It’s the news fault I’m here in Houston & that all they broadcast 24/7. They won’t shut the hell up about center point they are only angering people more .

When they had serious flooding and people came in to help. The good people of this town actually tried to commandeer their boats. Now they shoot at them. Our volunteer crews that went down there. Turned around and came back. No one here at the rural electric said a word. They cleaned their trucks and went home to their families.

Poor planning and management has driven people over the edge. Centerpoint should be ashamed of this long outage. We suffered all week and ruined our generator running it all week. Centerpoint will be investigated and fined for a horrible performance. The line workers have done an outstanding job I thank them.
These out of state crews should pack up and leave.

Please, people! The problems in Houston, in the wake of Beryl, is not the fault of CenterPoint linemen! Obviously, Beryl, was the breaking point, but infrastructure policy was the real failure! And that, folks, is the fault of the legilature, EPCOT, and CenterPoint management! So, please do not take out your frustrations on those REALLY doing their best to get your power back on! Bet they cold do with a cool drink of water!
Linemen need to make sure that people don't see them standing around and not working. Regardless of the reason, that enrages people who've been sleeping in 90 degree bedrooms for 5 days.
These men and women have been working 12 and 14 hour days in 90 degree heat and 100% humidity....literally putting their lives on the line to help restore safety and comfort to us.

Unfortunately, lazy people exist everywhere. Including in this situation. I spent 7.5 days in a 90-degree apartment, so I understand how people feel when they see people not working.
