- Greece's health ministry confirms dozens of people were injured as the wildfires spread rapidly. Firefighters have uncovered the body of a woman in a burnt-out factory in an Athens suburb.
Fire chiefs say they are no longer battling a single fire, but rather many localized blazes. Entire neighborhoods north of the capital have been evacuated.
Several EU countries, including France and Italy are sending assistance to help Greek authorities combat wildfires encroaching on Athens.

Dear neighbors, I wish you a speedy recovery from Türkiye. We know very well how it feels to see your beautiful forests and your own house to be burned in front of your eyes. It hurts a lot. Best wishes. 🇹🇷❤🇬🇷
The solution is quite simple: dig ditches! Or rather dig berms and swales on contours of the hillsides to collect rainfall. This will prevent flooding, flash flooding and collect rainfall so it can be absorbed slowly into the ground. This recharges rivers and springs while cleaning them. It raises aquifer levels so you have more water. The forests can become stronger and provide more shade to cool the land and retain moisture, support wildlife and build up the forest floor. Permaculture techniques could help agriculture. This would also provide more jobs while protecting lives, livestock and homes from fires and floods. It would be a huge economic boost and have an economic multiplier effect. Along with building e-bikeways this would help locals and tourist and boost everyone's income.
But you have to do it. Yes, it makes sense and is relatively inexpensive to do. And it needs to be done not just in Greece, but all over Europe.
corrupt politicians, mafia and officials do not allow that to happen on the ground.

Instead of buying F-16s and F-32s, the Greek government should have bought equipment to fight annual fires and trained more fire fighters

People, year after year, we see the same things happening in this country. The Government does not care,it has its own plans for the burned areas.The People continue to vote incapable representatives. There is no hope for a change.
Greece also needs to employ goats to eat shrub, grasses and other fire material. You must maintain your forests.
@busysaru888 they burn our forest to install and make Greece a power plant with wind turbines and solar panels to provide Europe since Russian gaz has been minimised , our government doesn't care for our country nor our people, we've got plenty of coal in greece but they stopped the production of electricity from coal under EU law while Germany keep using it, we get to pay the most expensive electricity in Europe while we have plenty of wind turbines and solars but it's exported to the "ones in need "mainly Germany , can one see the tragedy of why Greece is bankrupt and its citizens povertised, because the supposed richest EU countries dictate and exploit this country through our clown puppet PM who doesn't have the guts to say NO !

Which countries send help? We didn't received any help when needed !!!did they send help today that the big fires around Athens are under control with the huge help from our own firefighters , volunteers and Greek citizens!!Greeks are always left alone during any struggles .Big big damages.
You need to officially ask for it first, ask your goverment why didn't they requested help immediately. I think we both know Turkey sending two bomber size airplanes to Athens without Grece asking wouldn't have the desired effect.

@@enderiskender2977 yes you're absolutely right , our useless government didn't ask for help but only when the fire was under control last night and Turkey which doesn't have the best of interest for Greece has sent help today ( probably to spy)
Romania sent another 44 firefighters with all necessary equipment today:
"The Government of Romania decided to supplement the Romanian fire brigades that are already working in Greece with another 44 rescuers and 4 technical means.
40 firefighters and two special extinguishing and rapid intervention vehicles are moving by air, with the support of two aircraft belonging to the Romanian Air Force within the Ministry of National Defense, and two other forest fire extinguishing machines (3,000 l) and four rescuers have began moving by land."
I hoped that there won't be wildfires in Greece this year... We are with you 🙏
I must add that 40 Romanian firefighters and 8 technical means are already in Greece since August 1. They are helping the Greeks firefighters since the wildfires started.
